Well, I couldn't read the whole thread, and yes it has positive and negative aspects. The one I'll mention is the entire DESIGN OF HE MENUS: AWFUL! It's me or I got the idea of extremely simple menu design, too plain no art, when you level up only a plain grid and the portrait, where the attributes are shown is simply a grid, it looks like mass effect 1 but worse, because in this case is Epic-Fantasy! no art! What happened! No Fantasy environment nor decoration, it's plain!!! Somebody agrees with me or it's only me? :-(

You do know that where they were was the blightlands right outside Lothering? Dead and Bland..and on fire.

Well, the menu didn't change in Kirkwall, did it?;) But the idea of a changing menu is quite nice. Though it shoudn't varry that dramatically as it does between DAO and DA2. And with the DA2-style the option to vary the design of the menus is gone, cause there is not a lot to be variied at all.

He's talking about the inventory/character screens, not the environment.

yea thats pretty much exactly what they said. they had just brought over the version from pc to console for da:o and the just did the opposite for da2

Yes, it felt that way in the PC demo.  Very disappointed with Bioware selling out its loyal PC gamer fans with yet another console port - even more discouraging because DA:O had seemed like a return to form.

Its not a console port it uses the same engine as DAO after all. It was built on all 3 platforms at the same time. Obsidian are doing exactly the same thing with Dungeon Siege 3.

The UI looks and feels very nice and modern, but felt like I was staring at my left bottom corner the entire time. Maybe scaling it horizontally or something. The voice response and ability icons were not very intuitive for what they do/mean. Also, some more feedback on what was pushed and what comes available would be nice. Maybe some feedback on the character what happened would help too.

Felt like I was playing a PS3 game on my PC. Would be nice to slow down combat if it was meaningful (hard enough with enough strategy), but seemed like a hack and slasher with poor camera controls. Maybe queuing abilities, if not there already, would be cool (I couldn't figure it out if so). I wanted to pause and set up each move but it didn't feel right like the old one (that's poor feedback I know but I don't know how to describe it).

The cinematics, story, and acting were all great - made me really pumped to play, but I was hoping for more like the original RPG game and I hope it isn't so scripted and linear when complete.

Kind of felt like a WoW - if you want it to be, allow the use of the mouse to run and the keyboard for abilities better, but it didn't feel right for some reason so I was clicking and even that felt weird. I did get the hang of it more towards the end.

It could also use a better visual indicator of your target and some of my abilities kept giving me the target icon even when I thought I was targeting something.

I suppose my most important takeaway would be decide if you want to be a console or a PC game. I would rather play on my PC but I guess I can get the PS3 version (I have both versions of the original). If the final product is like this, I will be buying on the PS3.

For demographic purposes, I am a 31 year old married male with children and a BA. I am planning on playing again after reading the feedback here in hopes of providing more valuable comments, because I am excited to see it succeed.

Nope, you are not the only one. If these are the finished graphics for the menus and user interface then they are a bit of a disaster really. Lacking in the character and artistic style of the UI that melded so well with the game world for DA O, these for DA 2 are somewhat generic, tabulated and unappealingly minimalistic. They look like a rough cut rather than something finished.

I was talking about the last sentance , other then that I like the new inventory/character screens. The tactics screen not so much

When I was adjusting the tactics, it was pretty flaky. Like I'd have to click in one (small) spot or it would change the conditions of the tactic and then I couldn't click again on the condition to change it back.

Alright, I didn't want to make a new thread but...I have a question.

I still haven't played the demo simply because I haven't had the time to do so and plus I'm waiting on my new PC to arrive. However, I have some time right now. If I download it for my PS3, I'll get the free item or whatever at the end of my demo, correct? But then will I be able to claim that item again when I play it on my PC under the same account?

Now the fighting. Bioware was correct, it should make the fight more intense, faster, more violent, nervous and immersive. I like. And that pleases the majority of players. A touch of fantasy does not hurt, but no need to defy the laws of physics and to be completely out of reality. Da also likes for its realism, do not forget. In dao, fight was just boring.

We could get used to the speed if there were not all these grotesque events that suggest anything but not dao.

We can do lots of funky moves with a sword, but not always spirits fly in the air. A two-handed sword does not weigh three grams, you can not fly through the air with, and do anything by typing. At least that is qunari, super muscular, with a destructive force. But when female hawke does with his little arms, that's just ridiculous, even for malehawke;

We must respect the rp, without restraint of course, but you must be a reasonable minimum. I never play with an oped with both hands.

Dao was a game dark, realistic, I understand the direction to the cartoon but it is not a reason to allow the teleportation to a warrior who knows nothing magic, or kungfu.

Now I love the warrior shield. It remains credible. I like the modesty of his manner of fighting, while the heart of the storm, it depends on many things.

I love what you did with the mage, it's just fantastic. I hated this class, and she really a hit now. Fantasy found in this class is much more convincing, the magician is just  hold a stick, is in light clothing, and magic can not hurt things.

You've managed to get for me the magician, in the heart of the fight, bravo for that.

I love the transformation of the archer, it's just beautiful. It gives an impression of strength, agility, now.

But it is the only specialty I like about the thief. The other is totally ruined by his techniques which are not suited to a game like dao.

To conclude, I say a big yes to continue on the pace of combat intensity, dynamism. class differentiation, make them all very active. But without going into cartoon things that spoil what you have created with the first episode. The cartoon doesn' t warrant a fantasy that nobody Hook if pushed too far.

DA isn't a manga despite its direction toward the cartoon animations. That' all

I don't know where I should say this but I do hope they change the fact that if you choose Mage, Bethany dies. Why can't the family have two Mage?. I would really like to have my FemHawke spend more time with her sister. You know girl bonding! I would love that so much!~

Also I really dislike Carver based on the Demo so far.

I played the PC demo and only got the PC DLC. I guess it's tied to the platform you're playing in.

Loved it :) my only gripe was that when Hawke's sib died seemed a little emotionless. Liked the movement, speed, the silky gameplay, awesome graphics. Can't wait to get it :)

This probably won't be as venomous as I thought it might be...

I can understand the economic reasons for taking the combat where you guys did, and for what the game is I actually found it to be quite enjoyable in a casual gaming sort of way.

But the problem here is, being a long time RPG / Old Bioware fan, I'm not really interested in the type of game you've made.  By making each button press an attack, as a player one feels the solution to most situations is simply to press the button more quickly.  Of course apt use of special abilities is important, and position and whatnot, but, playing the demo, the feeling never left me that I was basically playing a button mashing adventure game.

The day Bioware makes an RPG with more complexity, character and adult themes than Origins, I'll be the first to pre-order all the extra nonsense EA marketing decided to take out of the game.  But until that day, I'm gonna pass.

Hope DA2 does well so you can make that game in the future :)

@JohnEpler- You can thank Christina Norman and the ME game design crew for the "what is a rpg" discussions since she thinks the way to go about designing an rpg involves shutting off the rpg systems. I appreciate that you DA crew members actually come in a interact with the community rather than ignore it, or tell the players that they are too dumb to play the game right if they have issues with it ala Chris Priestly on planet scanning.

Demo thoughts: Xbox

The Good:
* Better than I imagined from everything I had heard
* Skills trees seemed unique in how things unlocked
* Dialog System seems both streamlined and helpful(I hope their isn't a ME2 all or auto fail morality but in)
* Ranged basic mage attack

Neutral:
* More actiony combat

The Bad:
* Flemeth resigned into a sexy old witch from the hag she was in DA1(breaks with established lore and universe)
* Overall visual character design changes
* Not letting us use the inventory in the demo!!!!!!!!!!!
* Mage extra slow stylish attack(what was the thought behind this?)
* Pirate seemed to have some texture issues on her right side in cut scenes

Overall B+(assuming the technical glitches are fixed in the final build)

Yes I got your point but What I meant was the design of the Menu and the screen of the attributes too plain, too straight plain colours, and a square grid , my god, and the art?, the epic decoration?

Played on the PC. I'm disappointed that the system checking app only see's my AMD phenom IIx6 1090t as a '1' core system (stock speed no OC). Cut scenes crashed, and tend to have distinct long pauses between camera changes during character dialogue. I have a mid range HDD, but am running a GTX 580 w/ 16gb system ram, so had expected things to flow a lot smoother.

Lovely game.... Just don't let the idiots responsible for the 1.3 DAO PC patch anywhere near the code.....

Absolutely dreadful. Where did Bioware animators learn to animate? The moon? With people wearing tiny turbines attached to every limb while hitting humans made of glass?

Also are rogues deer? Do they absolutely have to do tiny sommersaults to move every 10 inches? Do they have telekinetic weapons? Because I didn´t feel ANY of my attacks connecting with the enemy at all. All I hear are little arcade bells and whistles while my character bounces around the screen waving his arms like it has negative weight.

Sorry, that was the biggest disappointment I´ve had in gaming ever since X-Com went FPS.

I liked the graphical changes you guys made to the game, i really apreciated all the small things like how female characters move in a more feminine fashion,  the combat is much more fluid and fast paced which really grabs my attention during combat.

there were some minor glitches like people or equipment disappearing (i LOLed when Aveline's body disappeared during the "they will not have you!" part and Wesley floated) but those are easily ignored :D

since it's a demo i was wondering, is the Switch Weapon option in the Action Wheel gonna make a return?
i really enjoyed being able to have archery then being able to switch to knives during combat when enemie got too close in the last game and since the combat is MUCH faster i'd be cool to switch to knives instead of doing the "Archery Kung-Fu" (not that it isn't cool) Posted Image

Oh I see :( Bummer...
I do hope that maybe they will reconsider this. If not I guess i'll have a MHawke Mage. I figure he will have to be stuck with Carver. heehee

Played on PC. Graphics looked a little choppy, but I blame that to me running them relatively low and the lack of dX11.

Combat feels amazing. Like, almost like it's broken amazing. It feels engaging and intimate (in the best way, eat my staff's pointy part, darkspawn - on fire.) The animations are fluid and eye-wateringly pretty.

Love the new protaganist, but I feel even with major editing and a different voice (afaik there's multiple options), it won't feel as personal as my Warden did in DAO and even premades in DAOA. I don't think that feeling will be recapturable.

I kind of dislike a lot of the new NPCs. Isbela is bland and plain, Varric isn't a good Oghren substitute, hell, no Oghren substitute, new Anders is in no way going to be Old Anders replacement, who was an Alistair replacement... looks like Hawke is going to have to be the sarcastic one-liner with a mild obesssion about his hair earring. Here's to hoping Fenris and Merril are good companions.

My favorite, however, is definitely the new staff animations. Can't get over it.
