Dragon Age 2 Demo feedback thread

The paraphrases in the dialogue wheel sometimes (but not all the time by any means) didn't accurately convey what Hawke was going to say. Sometimes the symbols were misleading as well but I think that if I just get used to how it works and what those symbols mean than that will work out just fine.
Other than that and the new darkspawn look I'm very impressed with what you've done. Everything happening in the conversations and cut scenes feels very dramatic and it gets you more hooked into whats happening to the people in the story. Flemeth's character seems a lot more like an abomination than she did in Origins and her entrance just couldn't have been cooler although I am wondering if the way she looks in this game is another form? A new host? Or has she simply been remodeled? The most notable combat improvements are on both rogue fronts. They are brilliant. Combat as a whole does feel a lot more fun but I think that some of the combat options seem to be gone as a result. For example, the elements for mages appear to be restricted to fire and ice and I personally enjoyed the earth and lightning just as much as fire and ice. Other things with combat are things like being able to toggle between having auto attack for a controlled character on or off is going to be nice in the full release because If I'm going to be concentrating on the entire battle with all four members I find that for me at least, the constant pushing of the X button on my PS3 controller would be pointless and distracting rather than fun. In other words I will not be playing this game as an action game.
Also here is another thought of mine on combat that I think is important.
It's like we've gone from one extreme to another in that in Origins combat was slow and in the sequel it's considerably sped up. After playing some Origins to prepare for a cannon for DA2 I noticed that each and every action meant more each time they were used. For example, in Origins when I use fireball or fireball is thrown upon me, it's always a problem for either side. When mighty blow is used in origins it seems to have more effect on the battle than in this one. I think that if we could get somewhere more in the middle it would be optimal.
That's all I got for you now, let me know your thoughts about it.

I enjoyed both oblivion and fallout 3/ new vegas personally. I really enjoyed dragon age a lot, was just playing it a few days ago. This game had so much potential to be amazing and for some ungodly reason Bioware said hey you know what would be cool? What if we changed the game so much thats its almost unrecognizable? Wouldn't that be swell? No Bioware...Dragon Age II is no better than any thrid rate hack and slash game ive played. Skyrim looks absolutely amazing and I know what im getting from that game, so its much more worthy of my money.Aesieru wrote...
Oblivion, and Fallout, and... a lot of games were my let downs... ironically most were from Bethesda.
Command & Conquer 4 is probably the biggest let down, but did anyone have any real hope for it? Red Alert 3, of course that was from EA.
What else...
It's not that BIG a let-down, and I'm keeping my ridiculously 60 dollar priced PC game pre-purchase, but still...

Just took all the money off my preorder today and moved it to Skyrim. I cannot express how disappointed I am with the demo, its just terrible. Worse graphics in my opinion and its been turned into a hack and slash game, terrible move on Bioware's part. I plan on renting it through gamefly to give it one last chance, but this is definitely one of the biggest letdowns ive ever seen for a videogame.
Exactly they ruined what was a classic style of RPG from old Baldur to the perfectly renewed version of DAO different from Elderscrolls but still they both are RPG with different styles now they killed one of the two RPG style and only Elderscroll style remains ....
This that Bioware did is a crap Streetfighter game or japanese Manga like characters with buffy features , incredible unrealistic huge 8 handed swords or whatever else crap ....

If the demo is any indication of how the full game is played, I'm not much interested.

Even with the super-limited demo, I found a ton of strategy in the combat - I particularly liked pairing the Mage's Mind Blast (or whatever it was called) that scattered surrounding enemies and made them forget about you and move to another target with waiting one second, and fireballing a now double-sized swarm of Darkspawn. It's fast, and only takes 2 buttons, but was a prefect example of non-linear strategy that the new system is so eminently capable of. I've spent my life playing classic RPGs, and I loved the gameplay here - I guess some people are just terribly frightened of anything that resembles change.Clumsy melee combat and a plodding, largely aimless story?I know what im getting from that game
Largely aimless story? You can tell that from a demo? lol

First time, locked in the menu, restarted the ps3 and the demo started normal until it frozen in the loading screen when tried to load The Chantry.

Yeah, I'm praying to the god of computer games that this demo is just to show off combat, because quite frankly it showed little else, I'm still getting the full game but finding it hard to shake that "gonna be a mistake" feeling.LadyRae9 wrote...

No one cares, go cancel it. Bioware will still sell a ton, they could put their brand on a dog turd and people will buy it. So many complaints...if you can do better go start up your own company and produce games...then talk.

You do realize that 90% of the stuff that was in DAO is still in DA2? The difference between the two is that you have the option to go a more direct and aggressive route if you want to. I've been able to complete this demo by doing nothing but issuing commands and moving my team around.
Add to that, its set on an easy difficulty. I doubt you're going to be able to hack and slash your way through Hard and up.

Im not frightened of change, I enjoyed the changes made to Fallout 3 from its predecessors and I enjoyed the changes made to Gears of War 2. The nicest way I can put it is that this game just sucks...I can't say im impressed with a single aspect of it, not one. I played it through several times with each class but it didn't get any more fun for me, I just genuinely don'y like whats been done to the game.

It sucks.
Compared to Origins, its a step down in every single way imaginable. You can't even get in close to take as good screens now since the camera is centered about 2 feet above Hawke's head. What happened to:
I have always felt that the key to tactical play was actually freeing your camera from the character you're controlling to issue precise orders, which is what we're tuning now. So, this means you can still maneuver the camera around the battlefield and issue orders from a remote location, just as you could in Origins.
I know things change and all, but its a joke to try and pass off the DA2 PC cam as even having anywhere near the functionality or flexibility as Origins' camera. Never mind the iso view, you can't even zoom out as far or detach it at all from the selected character.
This becomes an issue when trying to at all accurately target AOE's at any distance, especially on uneven terrain and especially since you cannot lock on to an individual enemy. Add in the waves that spawn out of thin air behind you and the camera quickly becomes the biggest enemy in the game. Which is such a damn shame.
I agree with this wholeheartedly, after playing the demo, if this is how my preordered game will play I will be very dissapointed. I have a 22inch monitor with my computer and DAO fill the entire screen with great distance vision etc. The best I got with the demo was a small box and overhead view and 20 or so feet ahead vision, I had an archer aiming at me from 30 yards and could not even see him, that really sucks. My only hope I suppose is the released game will be same as DAO for camera angles and distance, if not I think I'll throw up after waiting for this game.

Really? I feel like its 180 degrees from what it was. Especially the hack and slash crap, I can't stand that stuff. That was a major part of what dragon age was, so its far from being 90% of what it was. Not to mention the almost cartoon like graphicss. Im just not a fan of any of that stuff. Im glad they released a demo though, so I didn't spend 60 dollars on this, id be seriously upset. I can't afford to spend 60 bucks on something crappy, I live on a freakin military salary.

Of course it's supposed to have something in common with the first one, it's a sequel. They just took a completely different course with the second one, sort of giving a big F U to fans of the series. They're pandering to hyperactive tweens who need to have constant, overly flamboyant action on the screen. Older RPG fans are about methodical combat which is gratifying to win, not necessarily about how cool the hero looks swinging a massive two handed sword made of cardboard like a skinny japanese schoolboy (I'm an anime fan, but DA and anime don't mix), chopping every enemy to bits or exploding them in a spray of gore.KnightHawke wrote...
well I.m going out on a limb here and saying I liked it for one this game was not suppose to have antthing in comon with dragon age it's suppose to be an expantion of that game to put you in the world of lothering and it's down fall from the attack of the drakspawn hord that invaded it an to meet the refugeechapion Hawke and his family and companions for feature games so that aside I liked and I for one am looking forward to my resreved copy of this game
