You will not find a PC player that is happy with the game full stop! not if they have played RPG's like i have over the years. I am a 38 yr old man and have played the best of the. Dragon age origins struck me as superb, right up there with baldurs. This has literally done my head in playing this demo...... cant understand it..........

Sorry.. play on PC.. older than you... probably played more RPG's than you (remember the hobbit on the spectrum anyone ?) Just because you can't understand it doesn't mean it's awful. Sure I don't like some things but having played multiple times I'm getting more comfortable with it (still think my major gripe is the ability of hurlocks to burst in a bloody splatter as soon as they see a thorn bush). Combined with the other media, such as  live chats/demos etc I don't see that much different between DAO and DA2. Sure the combat is aimed at a different demographic but the rest and interesting parts are still there and may even have been improved.

I don't see how DA2 plays different than DAO .  I tried the PC demo.

No I didn't. Maybe I should say "This is my biggest gripe with the demo so far"

Ah yes, just recalled something else that bothered me in the demo. When Isabela propositions my lady Hawke, Hawke looks interested. I hope she only gives that look if she (or he) has previously flirted with Isabela, because I'm gonna be pissed if MY character behaves in a way that doesn't fit their sexual orientation. And I mean this if I'm also playing a gay male Hawke, or any other sex/orientation Hawke who looks interested in somebody they shouldn't be. Don't RP my character for me, please :(

To my opinion dragon age looked dated the day it came out and it needed the graphical overhaul.

What graphical overhaul? I keep seeing people say this but the graphics look well below DA:O.

Yes, the character models are slightly better. But that's it. There's more to a game's look than just the number of polys on the characters.

The terrain and scenery is absolutely hideous. The Lothering outskirts were nothing but the same bland grey flat ground in all directions and go figure, more bland grey ground at the "background". The locations in the demo were horribly empty, Hightown was barely an improvement.

Not to mention the "floating weapons" on rogues or Bethany's staff during those cutscenes.

Well it is a -small- demo you have to keep in mind graphics are a very very big part of a game and since the demo we all downloaded was less than 2GB for downloading what can you expect in the way of graphics, I have my graphics set to "very high" with AA at 4x as well as a screen resolution of 1680x1050 under directx11 and it is acceptable, I do believe that they'll be improved with the release of the full game's data files containing all the data the game will load into memory for each area you go to.

Its BAD for the pc. Any rpg fans that love it on the pc. state this is bad... please for gods sake. because origins was amazing, look at this compared

Sorry, not all PC players share your opinion. I've played Neverwinter Nights (1 and 2...1 was better) as well as DA:O, The Witcher, and others I'm blanking on at the moment, and I have no issues what-so-ever with not needing to pause constantly to play.

Imo, the action-y bit is fun.

this, changes are never necessarily a bad thing, you don't always want every sequel's gameplay to feel exactly the same as the last so changes are fine, DAO was certainly not like the crpg's that inspired it, and people are always comparing Dragon Age to The Witcher for obvious reasons and forget that CDProjectRed's main inspiration for the sequel's gameplay is Batman Arkham Asylum...

there are witcher fans ****ing that the witcher 2 has been consolized, but here people use it as an example of a game that has pure roots? give.me.a.break, if it's not broken... if a change is made purely on taste, it's not the end of the world

I loved it! And I can't wait until my game comes! :)

Combat is A LOT faster paced than Origins. The animations are more fluid, and enemies go down fast! I had to change some of the tactics I used in Origins to make up for the faster combat, which basically chalk up to having to react more quickly, instead of plodding around the battlefield taking out one enemy at a time. Archers seem a bit overpowered, but nothing major. I did notice that they actually hit much harder than mages on their normal attacks, but as usual, mages get more powerful as they level up. Little disappointed at lack of friendly fire.

Rogues-Overall, loved them! They're so...roguish! :) It is now mandatory that i play one.

Mages- Fun, as always! The new animations for the spells are much more pleasing to the eye!

Warriors-Never been much of a warrior person, I'll admit, but I had a blast as a two-handed warrior!

Two main complaints- The indicators on the dialogue wheel don't always make sense to me. What does the diamond mean? Also, during the fight with just before Hayder, both Bethany and my PC starting attack invisible enemies on the staircase, but this mainly just provided some giggles. :)

Just finished the demo;

+ Combat isn't nearly as mutilated as I expected
+ Certainly fun to play
+ Nothing worthy of a pre-order cancellation
+ The environments look pretty nice
+ Runs pretty damn well on my laptop, all things considered
- Horrible UI. Seriously terrible change from the awesomely immersive rough old world style
- The blood splatter and magic effects look pretty bad
- Far more corridor feeling than the first game, and the whole faded corner map thing really annoys me
- The first area was bland as all hell
- Not fond of the storytelling framing device or the more cartoony style of the animated cutscenes
- Clear lists of numbered conversation choices >>>> Dialogue wheel

Overall it'll be a great game, certainly. It just seems that there's a hell of a lot of changes from what I loved about the original that weren't at all necessary and just detract from the whole thing. I'm not just talking about the more streamlined combat, inventory and conversations etc, but the overall style is just different in a bad way.

Still certainly looking forward to it though. The characters, story and fun combat will make it an amazing game. The style and GUI, not so much.

DA2 is pretty much the same thing as origins. I still pause the game and issue orders, of course since this is set to NORMAL you dont have to pause the game. And for people saying it takes 2 seconds to kill a darkspawn you are right ( not two seconds but still very quick) however it takes longer to kill other types of enemies. It wont take this long to kill everything in the game. I remember killing darkspawn at about the same amount of time in origins.

I took it as a wry perhaps cheeky smile and nothing more, more of a "friendly" thing than anything else.

I find it difficult to understand mind set in regards to this demo.

Mindset is simply faster paced, you no longer have to shuffle to get your rogue to backstab for example. Fine you may not like the style in which it was achieved but you have to recognise the intent and the fact that they have achieved it. The demo is really only a combat show case with options such as damage displayed locked off (yes it is an option). In my view they are demonstrating the change which has the most visual impact. It's been stated that the normal mode (locked for demo) is really single player, hard mode+ is where the fun starts as far as I am concerned being a requirement to use all the party. That and a good storyline... well what's so different ?

1) A button needs to be added to select the entire party. I used this all the time in DAO combat and it becomes tedious to shift-click each party member when you want to command the whole party.

Someone else may already have answered this one, but what the hell...

The functionality is already there, at least on the PC, even if not from an on-screen button. If I remember correctly, the command is Select full party and by default is bound to Control-A. You can bind it (and any other keybindable command) from the Options > Key Bindings screen.

It's dumbed down, that's true. But it seems that they changed style from dark-fantasy rpg to Japanese combat game with all characters having ninja-like magic powers.

And what's with Rogues having teleportation?

They aren't teleporting, its an abstraction of them moving extremely fast.

Well...I actually like what I see in the demo. Essentially combat is the same attack formula like in DA:O, just more fluid looking and dynamic because of the different styles of moves. I admit however, that the new talents threw me off because I wasn't expecting Super Saiyan teleporting/speed rushes and things.

I'm not sure I like the new backstab talent though. I'd rather move my character behind an enemy (which I did during the demo out of habit), rather than selecting "backstab" as an option.

Isabella not having the same voice actor also threw me a little. Would have been nice if it was the same so there is some tie in with Origins, but I like her current voice actor too.

I'm really liking how dynamic non-combat movements are, like with the first cutscene we see with Varric. I don't think we'd be able to have him holding a book like that in Origins. If there's a toolset released (pleaseplease), I'll bet you 100 sovereigns that module makers will have a field day with what sorts of awesome they can create.

Story-wise...I'm quite intrigued! Mostly about our second favorite Witch of the Wilds, but the demo certainly did a good job as a teaser.

i think that the game, although faster pace and more action oriented still requires strategy

the ogre boss is a perfect example. you cant just slash at it randomly or you will all die, you need one guy on the darkspawn, another on the ogre, and a mage from the back, you have to use all you got and strategize who will be tank and who will be dps. i think they did great at makeing dragon age 2 for consoles

I find it hilarious that it's a couple of the same people posting over and over again how they hate the game, using pretty much the exact same words. And these guys are stunned, STUNNED, when other people, even old-school PC gamers, don't share their opinion.

STUNNED.

The guy above said it perfectly: DA2 is DA:O with faster combat and better graphics. Add an ME2 style dialogue wheel, and that's basically it.

PC version:

I hate Flemeth's new look. Too cheezy and over the top.

I hate the booger on isabellas chin.

My biggest gripe is the fact that the game is obviously designed for controllers and they didn't add controller support for PC out of some weird prejudice (Ive read sarcastic dev comments about controller support for PC). Come on is it really that difficult or do they just prefer that people buy it on consoles?

I can handle the cheesy teleporting ninja rogue and the booger on the chin. But the controls are a deal breaker. Wont be buying it.

How is this any different from being STUNNED that there are people who don't worship the ground DA2 walks on? Some of those people have legitimate concerns, but belittling their opinions is just childish.
