This is exaggerated slightly though because I'll be playing it on PS3 (I'm a bit of a trophy ****, and i find it just as fun to collect the trophies than to achieve things in game at times).

I must admit that i am glad that i see so many opinions that describe the sam game faults as my toughts are, the cheap graphics style and the fast combat that completely killed the stop and play tactics that the DAO had...End of story, this is now a generic basher.
on normal dificulty with dx9. Retail version has nightmare and dx11, just wait till that comes out to panic...

That being said, I will still support you and buy the game hoping you will once again make good RPG that focus on strategy not button smashing.

Anyone assuming that you can play the game exactly like that of the demo even on higher difficulties without actually looking into it is going to miss out. I look forward to Nightmare, the land of challenge and friendly fire.
Also, the first half of the demo is the beginning of the game, and the second half of the demo is only a few hours in. Did you expect an epic battle that only the most skilled players could defeat? Lest we forget a room full of rats teaching us how to play DA:O. Blind admiration at its finest =P

Did I enjoy the Demo? Yes. Am I keeping my pre-order? Yes. Am I disappointed? Yes.
This is a constructive feedback thread so I’ll try to keep it constructive. I played PC demo as a rogue. I hardly had to stop to think about tactics. Just rush in, a few evades here and there, a few backstabs; it was all fast and furious. I enjoyed the combat for what it was but that isn’t the point - I don’t want this type of combat in Dragon Age. I want to think about how I’m going to take down my enemies with a very realistic chance of failure if I get it wrong. In this demo I just rushed in, pretty much ignored what my companions were doing, and didn’t once come close to dying. None of my companions fell in combat either. Wave after wave of enemies died without me having to do much of anything. That was all extremely disappointing.
My other big criticism is the dialogue wheel. I like to know exactly what I’m going to say, and it annoys me big time that all I get is paraphrasing. My experience has been with the wheel that you sometimes say things that you weren’t expecting to say from the paraphrase option. I will have to grin and bear it, as I did in Mass Effect, but an option to ‘reveal’ the full text would be very much appreciated in future games.
Storyline is a big priority, and I enjoyed the cut scenes very much. I found myself delighted to be back in the Dragon Age world and eagerly wanting to learn more about the story and the characters. I’m sure the story and characters will be top notch, as always, and I look forward to it immensely.
I think I’m still going to enjoy this, but from the demo it doesn’t look to be the game I had expected from the Dragon Age
franchise. I don’t know whether that actually matters to Bioware now, or whether they’re just happy I’m keeping the pre-order. In the past that thought wouldn’t have even crossed my mind.
Good post! I agree with the combat. In Origins, at least it was slow enough to enjoy the scenes of the kills and the variations to how enemies were dispatched. Like a quick dagger in the stomach, then a kick below the belt and then a spinning off with the head sword swing, this as just one example and with great detail. Seems to be a thing of the past if going by the demo. I also liked the aura of elemental effects in Origins missing in this Demo, like the heat rising from the flame of your sword, or electrical effects of your rune add-ons, etc.

(warrior,mage,rogue) - how do I feel?
Terribly. Truly Terribly. Why?
Because now Ive to wait around 2 entire weeks until the final game comes out >__<
Thats pure torture for me!
Bioware, for me, your games have always been more than just simple games. They've been pieces of Art.
For me each of your games - Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age and Mass Effect - are like a novel, an epic movie and a computer game at once.
I enjoyed playing the demo very much as it showed me that with Dragon Age 2 another epic experience is waiting for me.
Thanks in advance.
Yours, Shandyr

1.) The graphics looks better than in DAO imo. It's not about more polygons, but the new style simly looks better. It was especially noticeable in Kirkwall, the graphics were very "clean" and colourful, when compared to Denerim in DAO.
2.) Combat is indeed very refined. Basically everything I didn't like about DAO combat was changed.
- Characters now really obey your commands. In DAO, characters tend to ignore commands occasionally (especially at the beginning of the fight).
- Characters now seem to switch between melee and ranged combat properly, it didn't work so well in DAO.
- The "chasing the enemies and not hitting them" problem for melee classes in DAO is gone.
Overall, combat seems to be more fun than in DAO. And I should add, that despite all the flaws, I enjoyed fights in DAO quite a lot, so it only gets better here.
3.) I won't try to comment on story and cutscenes, because the technical problems (loadings during cutscenes, inconsistent sound volume and so on) were "immersion killers". I don't expect any of these problems to make it into the full game.
Anyway, I've already preordered the Signature Edition long time ago, so the demo hasn't changed anything for me. I only played this because of the in-game item and Call to Arms. Still, I appreciate the effort Bioware put into this, being able to try a game before buying it is always welcome.

I went through the demo several times now and I still think its OK so I'm waiting for release of full game.
But the longer I play the more frustrated I am with the looks of all the character windows, skill windows etc. It doesn't fit to that type of a game, it's more like I play another ME.
The major issue I have is with the portraits of party members when you have to change to another character when you level them up. It's so small that I hit the arrow indicator instead of a portrait and very often just go out from that window instead of switching characters.

can you "button smash" like in DA 2 in DA:O on the Xbox?
On the easier difficulty settings and when your character is at a low level (before you get many talents), you can do this on the PS3 (I don't have an XBOX 360, but I will assume it's similar). It just takes long for your character to react to pushing A or X, because of the slower combat speed.

I loved it. The combat is vastly improved. It has both the tactical elements and also the action elements. To me the skill trees and combat are perfect. I never thought I would be going Archery but I found that to be the most fulfilling. The dialog options, ala Mass Effect 2, is perfect also. The graphics are good and I don't know why anyone would complain about them (gamers are spoiled brats). I look forward to playing the actual game. I am at a dilemma though, Xbox 360 or PC. Ah hell, both. The girlfriend wants it too.
That pretty much sums up how I feel about it. The only thing I DONT like about the console side is that you have to continually hit auto attack, vs on PC you just need to right click once. I'll be playing it on PS3 for the trophies and because wife likes to watch me play RPG's for the story, so Couch > Computer Chairs.

Guess I was too busy watching the Blood drenched, fast paced, decapitating, disimbowling, exploding, sword slicing, bonecrushing, freaking amazing combat changes from dragon age 1.
Seriously, I love the direction you guys have taken the game from dragon age: origins. I feel like you took the best of ME and Dragon Age and combined them into something incredible, FREAKING CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THE GAME.

Why couldn't there be some variation to the armor and looks of the Darkspawn. They all have the exact same outfits for their class and move exactly the same way all of the time. Hurlocks coming in waving swords in weird twirling moves, all looking the same no matter how they move, it is silly. It was nothing like that in Origins where you'd have Hurlocks, Genlocs, emissaries of varying degrees, attacking at once with different scary looks.. The archers have these funny looking helmets and they look all the same. No variation whatsoever. They also have the manga looking faces that are anything but scary, rather, it seems i get more of a laugh out of their looks.
YES. I so agree. I really hope Darkspawn aren't the main enemy. They look like the Putty Patrol ATM.

Anyways I preferred the orginal artwork, this one is to manga colored for me, the other one was a bit more realistic looking.
I dont care for the voiceover of my character, I preferred having more options for dialog as the first one did - I understand it costs more for more choices when your doing voiceovers, but it was the dialog and the story of the last that made me replay it like 15 times (because I wanted to see every choice where it would lead)
All in all I feel like they made it for a much younger audience who just wants to slash bash things - I hope Im wrong here.
One other observation, Izzabella, she hits on my female character, while thats clearly a romance option, I am hoping because the demo had a high interest level and isnt a glitch (ie. I would never be that close with her as I dont swing that way!)
I appriciate the demo tho as it allows me , a whiny old woman, to decide if its worth me to buy before hand and not be in for a nasty suprize (i.e. buying it to only see the manga graphics then)
Played on pc
Thanks!

I agree with you completely - it was not what I expected and the fighting seemed 'easy' - just keep pressing some buttons and you'll kill some monsters without really trying, strategizing or even thinking about it. Seems to be geared to 15-year-olds. Annoying.

Could there be an increased text size option for standard TV users?
I know, I know. "It's 2011. Go buy an HDTV."
I, along with thousands of others cannot afford new TVs.
I switched my pre-order from Bulletstorm to DA:2 due to the fact I thought I'd get more gameplay hours out of it. But I'm beginning to think I should remove that preorder. The combat was spot on. Pause and play is most likely how I'll play the majority of it. It's the text. I can't read it. As much as I loved the demo, if I have 20-20 vision and have to strain my eyes to get into the story, read codex(s?), then I'm willing to pay for something else.
Bioware, Please consider the less fortunate players. If not this time around, maybe next time.

You know, I've seen enough outcry about that issue that others like you have faced with the text. It seems like it'd be something easy enough to patch in later if its not already part of retail.

Did you have to pause and strategize to kill the rats at the beginning of DA:O on Easy Mode? No? didnt think so.

Played 4 times so far...male and female rogue and male and female mage.
As for the demo itself had a few crashes until I played on clean boot for my system. It was fine after that. I don't have a video card that works with Directx 11 but I did use the high setting...I guess that's directx 10...graphics look pretty sharp but even if they didn't that wouldn't be a biggy in my opinion. Would have liked to have been able to take a whack at the character creator and the whole demo was too short but other than that it was a pretty good demo.
As for the game itself...I like the changes. Loved the new combat...and since that was my chief complaint for DAO I'm very happy with what I've seen. For me personally it looks like I might like this sequel better than I did ME2 ( I was very disappointed in the changes they made for that one). Looking forward to release day.

People need to research the game before coming to some of their conclusions. They have stated and demonstrated a few times that Normal difficulty is meant to feel more like an action game for the crowd that isn't into micromanaging, and higher difficulties will force you to go back into pause and be strategic if you wish to win.
A demo is the best way to show a game and it's up to the studio to convey the features. Bioware didn't by locking the difficulty. You can't blame people for not reading sites enough and coming to the conclusion that DAII is a simplified action game. Not everyone wants to browse forums or read up on every single tidbit about an upcoming game.

Except that this exact same issue plagued ME2 over a year ago. While they are a different team, BioWare as a company has known about this problem for a long, long time and chose to do nothing.
