<----37 year old "kid" who enjoyed the faster pace of combat & animations.

If it was up you most of you.....we would still be stuck in the pong era of gaming.

Pong has more personality than Bethany or Aveline.

You generalize , what combos?

Spell combos, stagger combos  (for example, if a warrior staggers an opponent, your mage's lightning attack will do 6x damage.)  Watch the live stream.  Mike laidlaw explains it, and IIRC, demonstrates it.

Or do a search of Peter Thomas's various posts.... he goes into great detail about the tactical, cross class synergy in combat.

The cooldown of abilities could be darker, more pronounced. Its far too easy to miss that somethings on cooldown.

Potions are especially difficult to see if they are on cooldown.

When paused and have queued an ability with a light background its very hard to see when looking at the icon that its selected and queued.

But I hope the frame narrative isn't sacrificing companion development.

One of my biggest fear is the Varric exaggerating scenes.  If it's done tastefully, it could work.  But replaying the same areas over and over = a dreadful, lazy game.

I love the demo, but as some have mention allready, I do have some consern with how the story will be told in Dragon Age 2. The hole cut-scene with Isabela, is a demo purpose only I hope! If we wont get the chance to play it, I´m afraid the story will feel very limited.
So if we are striped with the option to enter a city, find a bar, then meet Isabela, interact, then travel to the place you actually pick up playing again in the demo I will be very disappointed!! This may be the solution Bioware have taken to cover the games story over a decade of time. This will result in cut-scenes that cover interaction to characters/events, giving the game a very hack & slash feeling I´m afraid..

I watched a demonstration they did that involved the Isabella Quest...and it's more involved than just "one minute you're talking to flemeth, and the next you're helping isabella". They simply used a quick cutscene to push forward in the story timeline to show you a different piece of the game and threw you in mid quest.

No worries there =)

Thats good to hear!! We need some "free" exploration, and its good to know that they wont do "shortcuts" just to cover a story through a period of 10 years or so.

Add that with an auto attack and we are ready to go :)

I can see that point being made, but how is that really any different? If I had Morrigan use crushing prison on an enemy and their health is being drained quickly, and then I launch a sweeping sword attack, the damage being done cooperatively is still about the same. It is simply the same amount of damage done in a different method. But as far combo moves, they are sorely lacking in DA2's demo that I see so far (I know, I shouldn't judge this package, it most certainly will be different in final release).  Where are the finshing moves?? I hope they kept them because those were awesome. Even if I just attacked as a rogue in Origins, I could stab the stomach with my dagger, then kick below the belt and then a sweeping sword, choppping off the head  as part of a kill. This isn't happening from what I see. This game, if going by the demo, is very watered down for animations and differnt looking enemies as they all look the same.

The rogue moves so fast that I feel like I am playing FF's Rikku or Dante from DMC or one of the Ninja Gaiden games, or even Bayonetta. I also don't like the way you have to click on a dead body as a rogue to choose using swords/knives or a bow. I hope that isn't standard in the game like that. Switching between the two in Origins was a snap.

I liked the demo...I love hack and slash games though of which DA2 does feel a bit like. Still the battles felt a bit more engaging where DA:O felt more like a you hit a few keys and watch the murder fest happen. With DA2's combat I felt more engaged, especially the rogue, which really appealed to me. The story is likely going to be pretty awesome so I'm not worried. Graphically I prefer DA2 over DA:O, even if everything blends together. The art design is much better this time around, and animations are slick.

My main gripe is the lack of inventory customization. I'm one of those guys that will equip for aesthetics rather than min/maxing and having a set look for a character isn't my preference.

Overall a thumbs up Bioware.

Fantastic demo. I've played it to death. But Aveline is SO dull. I don't think she'll get much of a look in when I find another warrior to replace her. I'm undecided about Bethany. She seems quite sweet and naive.

After playing through the demo, I'm less excited about the game.

For some reason it just wasn't giving me "that Dragon Age Feeling" or something.

The combat was fun. For a while. But that's mostly what there was to do. I enjoyed the RPG elements best of all from the games before and it felt like that aspect has been downplayed.

I'm just not so much into slashing through wave after wave of enemies. I could go play Gods of War or whatever for that.

Trying not to judge the entire game just from a demo. I realize not all features were there and it seemed like some of the sections were maybe condensed?

Like meeting Isabella seemed rushed. "Oh hi, watch my back? Cool, let's go."

Just a bit disappointed as I was excited for this one and now that's turned to wait and see the reviews when the full game's out.

That was obviously just part of the demo so you could try melee rogue vs bow rogues and 2-hand fighter vs sword and board.

I feel like a lot of people are freaking out about some parts of the demo and not considering that it's a demo. Of course you aren't going to be teleported to a the future and get Varric and Isabella in your party. They are trying to save time and let you use some characters.

I love the new graphics and the new colors theme, much less drab than DA:O. I know this is Bioware and I look forward to the awesome, engaging and morally challenging to navigate plot. Changing the world over a decade! It sounds awesome, and I can't wait.

Again, folks. Breast size discussion. Cut it out.

Can we discuss text size? Or rather, could you give an answer to whether or not it's going to be that insanely small in the retail version as well. Really need to know if I should cancel the preorder or not since it's illegible in the demo.

Would also be interesting to hear how you could make the same mistake you did with Mass Effect 2 when you admitted that was a mistake. You're supposed to learn from them not repeat them. But I'll settle for a "yes it's going to be that tiny" or "no, we realized it was too small and fixed it for retail."

I never said it was different.  Just that 1) it exists in DA2  (you asked for examples) and 2) that there are more of them.  Mike and Peter  have both flat out said there's more combos and more cross class combos in DA2.  This last one is significant, because the only cross class combo in DA:O was Shattering.  Now we've got more.

the demo for the 360 was amazing, loved the combat, it was intense and very tight. I am hoping Isabella and Varric were just fast forwarded for the demo and we get to explore the city a bit before meeting them. The timeline was a bit confusing, I kept wondering where my Grey Warden was at the beginning but I love Flemeth, her new incarnation atleast, just leads me to wonder if she always looked like that and just let my Grey Warden see her as an old woman. The dialogue wheel was great, I could be witty when I needed or gentle. All in all it drives me crazy that I have to wait two more weeks but I cannot wait to see the finished product.

I'm stunned by how many people actually believe that the game is going to fast-forward straight to the Isabella quest after the escape from Lothering. The demo version obviously skips a lot of the story with the intention of introducing teenage boys to the big-breasted sexpot who'll convince them to make the purchase. :P

I had a quick play through as a Rogue and I think that it may be a little over powered. When fighting the Ogre's I don't think they even got a hit on me. What with the ability to jump in and out of trouble and backstab...

I'm older than most everyone on this forum and I loved the new combat and so did my 15 yr old son who I can also say had no interest what so ever in Isabella.  I think if he romances anyone in the game it will be Merrill.  He's funny though, in DAO, he romanced both Leliana and Morrigan just to hear the cat fight and ended up with Leliana because she's the nice one.

If you're a console gamer, than hack-n-slash is where it's at. Shooters and RPGs tytpically play better on PC. Shooters less os in this gen though.

Yep, and you skip something like 3 levels. You have a ton of attributes to distribute.

What happend to the interface? It looks like it's still in beta or even alpha state. DA:O was million times better in this aspect. I hope they finished this in final version.

Some freak out, but most are good criticisms. I never said that the bow/sword switch out would be the way I experienced it, only that I didn't like it. Why even put that method of switching in a demo as to give the option of that it works??? Seems a little in methid to get that. We'll see, but I did say that I know the whole package will be different obviously.
