The cutscene loading was horrible. I'm hoping this is just some demo-issue and those cutscenes will load normally in the full game, but to be honest I'm not holding my breath. There was some annoying pausing during the dialogue too.

Combat was lot of fun though, especially on a mage. The pausing and order issuing wasn't as annoying as it was in Origins (I really hated that slow paced combat), and the animations were amazing.

Like who? It's not like Bethesda are leading lights in the area of not taking stuff out of games...

The demo is just awful. Where is the rpg in that game?

The arcade slasher action, the simplified mechanics and the casual conversation wheel approach

I was growing up playing Black Isle games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate saga, which hooked me up on RPGs.

I also liked newer Bioware games (KTtor especially), and DA:O was a nice game too, though it was dumbed down compared to their classic games. The direction they went with the second one, it's just not for me. They are obviously catering to the young, xbox audience, not oldschool PC crpg players. It's nothing wrong, they have just chosen their new playerbase. I just personally think it's time to move to other developers, RIP Bioware.

"Dragon Age II" is a first-person shooter (in the 3rd perspective) with light-light rpg elements, which means that its not a pure 'role-playing' game. Its not similar to playing "Vampire the Masqurade: Bloodlines", "Knights of the Old Republic", or "Dragon Age: Origins".  Its a hybrid that combinds "Mortal Kombat" with "Jade Empire", but without being a serious role-playing game.

I've given up hope of those two seeing the light of day in the near future, loved the original GW and Diablo 2.

Some people are really hard to please. And even if you don't like it, you don't have to be rude!

I really enjoyed the demo (PC), except I had a hard time keeping my character on task. As soon as something was killed, my female rogue would stop attacking. I could get used to that though. Other than that, I thought it was fantastic, and I'll probably play through it again so I can choose which class to play.

To all you haters out there, you don't have to like the game but you could at least keep it civil. The makers of DA2 put tons of effort into it to make it something that most fans would enjoy, and probably spent 70+ hours a week on this game, which they all seem pretty proud of (I would know my fiance is a game programmer and spent 60+ hours a week while working at a major EA company in CA) on TOP of that they provide us with TONS of extra stuff, including interviews, play thrus, character info, AND still find time to frequently post on this forum. It's not even completely for marketing purposes...most of us were planning on buying this game whether we got all this bonus info or not, It's not to solely convince us to play. You don't have to like the game, but cursing and saying it's crap and filling up this thread with constant criticism nit picking at everything without being constructive at all is ridiculous and immature. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it.

I haven't finished playing the whole demo yet but so far I absolutely love it and all the new changes.

Mage is a lot faster and funner to play. I like the new ability trees too. Easier to sort through.

The new dialogue system is wonderful! I thought it was going to be like MassEffect but somehow it's not. (Thank you~) The dialogue flows more smoothly and I already want to do more than one play through of the demo to see some of the other dialogue choices. I'm surprised but I don't miss my silent hero. The voice acting is great too. I like female Hawke! She doesn't have a mannish voice, god thank you lol.

I'm really excited now. I'm getting the PS3 version because my husband and I play together in our living room. Dragon Age is one of the best games to play with a friend or family member. The choices really have us cringing and laughing together. :)

Good job Bioware! Back to the demo!

I just said they cut off a lot of the RPG elements, it's still an action RPG, but just with a lot of action and a little bit RPG. Anyway, no fear for you, Bioware promised to put more RPG elements in ME3.

Platform:
Xbox 360

Gameplay:
Lady Hawke
Warrior
Sowrd & Shield

Impressions:
I have to say, you guys did so much justice to the Xbox 360. I think most people in the forum by now knew what the demo was going to cover. Who dies, who lives, who shows up to help, etc. But what I wanted to experience was the gameplay. As a console player, DA:O was awesome but not that great compared to the PC in many aspects, obviously, and one of those things was being a bit more tactical in the gameplay. Yes, the wheel is still the same, which lets you pause the game to issue commands just like DA:O but the new feature added to the wheel to move around your party member anywhere, while pausing, just like the PC, in the battle is just awesome. The game feels like DA:O but I feel like I have more control of what I want my party member to do. I still did it in DA:O but for some reason it felt a bit more comfortable to do in DA2. Lady Hawke looks so much better and I mean the way she walks, runs or stands. This is such a big improvement because she looks sexy and deadly. Look at those "swaying hips"!

That said I have mixed feelings about two things but I have to play the demo a bit more and explore more options to know whether I like it or not. The conversation wheel is great. I haven't played much of Mass Effect games so I wasn't sure how it was going to work here but there was something I really liked and something that confused me a bit. I was pleasantly surprised that whenever I chose a certain tone in the conversation, and the cutscene happens, I loose control of Lady Hawke so I felt a bit uncomfortable she was going to say something out of character or out of the tone I was trying to use throughout the previous conversation, but I really loved that once I lost control, Lady Hawke will keep that same tone. Awesome! Brownie points there!

On the other hand, the paraphrasing can be a bit confusing. For example, there was an instance where I wished Lady Hawke would've been more firm/angry in her tone and the line I read on the wheel gave that impression but it didn't really feel like anything I read or the tone I expected. I choose I think, "Tell him to stay away from my sister", or something like that, it had a red icon, I wanted Lady Hawke to be harsh when this line was spoken, instead her tone was pretty neutral and she said, "Just so you know Templar I stand by Bethany.." or something like that....and I was like that does not sound like I expected. From that point on in the conversation everything seemed fine, but there were a couple of lines here and there that I wasn't expecting.

In terms of the combat, I was taken a bit back with how flashy and fast Lady Hawke is. I overall liked that things got done when I sent a command, and I don't know if it was because I had just played DA:O but sometimes I got a bit lost in the battle, specially (and here's the con) when I was targeting an enemy. It took me a while to figure out how to target the enemy but even then they got lost in the battle, so it was a bit confusing, and I thought at least it was a positive thing that the wheel got upgraded since I felt I was required to pause the game a lot more to make sure the party member were doing their job or know what was going on.

Overall, Bioware it was awesome. So much improvements on the Xbox 360. Everything felt very fluid except a few things I noted before but I'm sure it will just take used to. If anything the demo made me more excited for the game. I still have to play the other classes but I'm sure I'm going to start the actual game as a warrior. It was my favorite class in DA:O and you guys improved it a lot.

just finished my first play through on pc and there are only two minor annoyances I have. One is that between a cutscene and some dialogue, the flow of the game is always interrupted by a lauding scene. The other is that with area effects, you can't center it on one opponent anymore like you could at DA:O.
One thing I have to say is that I was amazed of the graphic detail that was put into this game. DA2 eyes are the best eyes I ever saw in a game

The worst RPG ever....

It's like another game, my PC is crying out for the mess they made....

Thanks Bioware, now i's sure what i will buy next: The Witcher 2....

Someone else here has a working brain :)

The Witcher 2 = Yay for us. DA2 = Yay for the stupids.

It's simple i like RPG: so Dragon Age 2 is far away from my taste..... That's not an RPG, no way i can call it so, no way someone can call Mass Effect 2 an rpg... These games are action-adventures....

Apparently it's not that simple; you don't seem to be aware of the all-encompasing nature of the designation "RPG". Mass Effect 2 is an action RPG.

And what part of Mass Effect 2 was RPG? The dialogues? I call it an action adventure, were the action is a Gears of war style game with dialogues and cutscenes... I don't remember any RPG element in it....

You don't remember any roleplaying elements in Mass Effect 2?

Aside from the fact that you're playing the role of Shepard, to the point where you can make decisions which affect the story, characters and virtually every other facet of the game-world... there are numerous ways to improve your character - though leveling up and procuring better equipment.

I'm failing to see how anyone could claim that it is not an RPG, and if you seriously consider the only differences between ME2 and GoW to be the ability to pick your own dialogue then maybe you should play both games again.

Excuse me, but when i play Monkey Island i play the role of Guybrush, in ME2 the decision are few and not very effective to be honest, and all of them are by dialogues, like other interactive adventures... The action is quite similar to Gears of war, and the equipment... what equipment are you speaking of? There are a total or 20 weapons or less....It's more like the weapons limit you have in an FPS...

I repeat myself, where are the RPG elements, you have to answer...

It's not a full-blown RPG, no. But to say there is none is ignorance. Didn't you see the leveling up and status increases? That alone accounts for an RPG element.

I have to say I waited all day for the demo but after a few tweaks... it was worth it.

I played it on PC, and being in Europe, it took till 5pm for me to get it; but after I'd sorted the launcher problem (thread help FTW) and turned off DirectX11 it only crashed once and was AWESOME.

I mean, I was feeling a little wary of the framed narrative, but Varric and Cassandra's interactions were EPIC XD From the trailers, I'd thought of her as some major antagonist, but she seems to be more double-sided than I'd initially thought. Varric was awesome too, heheh.

I played a female mage (her voice fits! It suits her really well :D), and was actually sad when Bethany died :/
I love the rivalry relationship you have with Carver :)
The Wesley x Aveline scenes were spot-on. Loved them :) even the death :(

The interactive dialogue wheel was like an improvement on the Mass Effect wheels. The funny options actually made me laugh (especially the one with Isabela in the Chantry XD).
I'm hoping the full release doesn't skip so fast from the prologue to Kirkwall. I'm heavily assuming there's been a lot cut out for the demo.
Like accessing my inventory. So close, and yet... so inaccessible. I don't loot corpes for nothing XD

But overall, I really enjoyed it :D I can't wait for March 11 (yup, Europe still). I'm *so* using my Hayder's Razor :D

Dude lol your real life must be hell to spend your time bashing a demo in the companys forums repeatidly, I mean what sort of personel hangups does someone like you have to say you hate the game and your not buying yet you remain lol .  The witcher was fail and if that and BG2 is the only 2 that are what you consider the standard for RPGs well I guess the future will just be full of disapointment.

Sigh, since no one seems to be saying it, let me say again that the CAMERA sucks ass. Let me zoom out, I can't aim a fireball down the road if I can;t actually pan my camera there.

God, how I hate you damn console types and the fact that every developer is seeing $$ signs and just making damn console games for the PC.

Seriously, in the full game can we zoom out a little or what? Are we forced into a super-closeup all the time because the damn 360 has 512mb of RAM?

That's because AA is glitchy. Turn it off, and you won't have those pauses. But the game is truly ugly on medium settings. A shame that the demo becomes glitchy as hell the second I turn on DX11 rendering to use high settings.

Urm feel im getting used to, Looks pretty cool if a little quick at times (combat i mean)

Conversation was cool but again limiting to see the aspects due to it being only the demo

Kirkwall looks pretty awsome graphic wise.

Did have one crash just after i killed the emmisary and seeing their is no save game it was a pain.

Auto aim in the new game will fix a fair few things up

Finally i found (as an archer) i think is scatter shot or something in origins if you hovered over and enermy it would snap to and make it target that guy and judge movement into the equation. here i had no such luck and had to aim at the ground and he eventually moved out before the shot was taken.

Otherwise looks good bioware cant really put a definitive vote on it yet as its just the demo but if i had to say anything. FLEMETH!!!!!!!!! :o

Just played the demo with both the mage and the rogue, and it was awesome! I'm really enjoying the rogue in this game. Others may have had fun with the rogue in Origins, but I thought that class was really boring to play. Congrats to Bioware in making the class more enjoyable!

Definitely excited for March 8th =)

I was going to post something like this. But then I saw yours. ^_^

I second this. This is a feedback forum. Tell Bioware what you did or didn't like about the demo. "Awful" Doesn't really help. If it doesn't look like the game for you, don't play and go look for something else. If it does... then join me in giving Bioware a big kiss and dance around like a super happy idiot! :D
