The truth of the matter is that if people are thinking that DA3 is going to suddenly go back to the "voiceless hero/ine" and/or basically copy/paste the engine from origins over to DA3, they really need to just "let it go" so to speak. DA2, I can say with confidence, is the "direction" in which DA3 and any other future installments will probably take us. Which for me, and others of like mind, isnt a bad thing.

I agree for the most part, but it still does not mean that it's set in stone. DA2 differs a lot from origins, it is possible that DA3 will differ a lot from DA2...and for the better... better from a viewpoint of people that expressed all those negative opinions.

No one wants it to go voiceless, but it would be nice to have better voice acting and directing...dialogue with "smarter" options... And most importantly for me, better writing...it's been said over and over that you can't judge writing based on a demo, but you can...scene is either emotional and immersive, or it is not. For me, they were not... unlike almost every scene in origins and mass effects (nevermind the dialog wheel).

all i have to say is that after playing demo 3 times, i have cancelled my preorder.
at least i still have witcher 2, risen 2 and skyrim

I finally got around to playing Risen 1....hated it and sent it back to gamefly after spending 8 hours in the bandit camp with no clear direction to go lol.

Strangely I liked Risen...the graphics were terrible and the combat mechanics were even worse...which made the game MUCH harder then it needed to be...but those aside I thought it was a fantastic game with a relatively unique setting.

Personally I 'd hope DA3 would end up somewhere inbetween what the Demo shows and what DA:O was at least in some respects. I can live with a voiced protagonist but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like a more "personal" note aka I imagine more how things are said etc. But I think you are quiet true at least in the VO part.

Some of the things the demo showed mad me actually more interested, but those have to do with the overall atmosphere and the story / characters etc. Some of the things I was worried about from all the PR I've heard aren't exactly better then I thought (some graphical style issues (not detail or quality), combat, GUI, classes, etc.).

I do think that game companies seem to "streamline" sometimes a step or 2 too far and a 3rd-equal hopefully goes 1 step back on some aspects (not turning the clock back completely) while keeping others. And that would be a result of "not leting go".

I'd probably agree with you onthat but I just realized that I actually turn off the vibration function on my controller to save on battery life.  Which, believe it or not, gives me an extra day in most cases before I have to 'recharge' it.  Not saying to turn it off or anything just your post made me think about why I didnt have it on to begin with Posted Image

PC - Demo

Played for the 3rd time after letting it sit for a few days.

- I don't mind that that it doesn't continue on from the Warden. It would be nice, but I'm OK with something different. I'm not sure I'd call it Dragon Age 2 but perhaps Dragon Age: Chronicles or something along those lines. That however is just a nit.

- I do like the new graphics, though they are too sparse and barren. At least there is a bit of color to the world now and what is there seems more detailed and less blocky. Don't much care for the cartoony art style though.

- I don't like for the dialog wheel thing at all. I feel it would be much more palatable if I could preview what the protagonist is going to say before I committ, and not have to guess. I certainly don't wish to know the outcome of the conversation before I committ, just like to know what I am saying before I say it.

- The voice acting is a bit wooden but it is tollerable.

- I don't like the "flash back" story telling methodology. But I'm willing to give it a chance. It seems to me the story is already told and I'm simply along for the ride. The whole cut scene methodoly doesn't work well. It seems very interuptive. Or perhaps the gameplay is interuptive to the rest of the story? I can't decide which it is. Either way, no diggity.

- The female characters are a bit much. If I were a 16 year old boy, I'd probably think they are great. At 44, it seems kind of silly. But again, I can live with that too.

- What really took away my enjoyment is the combat. I disliked the Super Mario Ninja style so much I had trouble even finishing the demo. I'm OK with taking some liberties with physics but rogues flying 35 feet through the air like some sort of kangaroo on steriods is really dumb. Even more insipid is the warrior who flits about the screen like it has a rocket up its arse leaving smoke trails while wearing full armor.. Leaving smoke trails? What is this, a Bugs Bunny cartoon? I'd be OK with speeding up combat a bit from DAO but the whole uber ninja style is idiotic.

- The gameplay, particularly during combat was not terribly enjoyable. The whole healing thing didn't work well at all and the AOE spell targeting left something to be desired. Perhaps this is improved in the final version.

- Again, acknowledging that this is a demo, but I get the impression that I'm playing someone else's character, in someone else's game and I just nudge things a bit in particular direction.

- I tried to take the demo for what it is, a demo, and keep and open mind but there were way too many red flags for me. I'm glad I didn't pre-order and I don't see myself buying this later, even used. I'm voting with my dollars. The only way EA understands things. Maybe this will be a hit, maybe not, but it will lose a bunch of fans who played and enjoyed DAO.

Just about every FPS I know of nowadays is console ported and ****ed beyond recognition.

Don't get me wrong I still love this and pre-ordered it long ago and I am still looking greatly forward to it. But the levelling system looks like it's dumbed down for console, and I can't remember where but I am pretty sure that they changed the camera system because of an issue with consoles, not that I care anyway, I never played using over head view anyway.

Also I do realise people will say it was originally made for console, but that won't change the fact that it was dumbed down for the console. Sorry the levelling system is really horrid I can't help but rant about it.

It's true DA2 was never a sequel to DAO. It still represents the total derailment and delineation of the franchise however, which from the outset was marketed as a traditional dice-roll RPG. That fact is inescapable.

And here we go again, judging the game based on a 40 minute demo, that's just plain stupid!

And let us not forget that while DA2 isn't a direct sequel of the DA:O and the Warden, it  does take place in the same world and is related to the series of events that took place in DA:O.  Thus still a sequel.

I'm sorry, but the original game was made for the PC. Yes, if you want it to play on a console, you need to modify it. But, now it's NOT very good on the PC.

PC RPG Gamers are different to Console RPG Gamers. We like it a little slower, more story. We like to take time and enjoy the action sequences.

Well, i downloaded the demo expecting the worst..and i was actually pleasantly surprised. Think i will just do a pro/con list so here goes;

Pros:
The new mage fighting animations are great,
The graphics have been upgraded- i played with dx 11 on high, the very high graphical option was locked    for the demo.
Issuing commands was also more fluid and responsive, i was really happy with this one.
Flemeth- I really liked her new look, she was almost regal in aspect.
The combat system overall was just..better except for AoE targeting which really annoyed me cause of the damn camera.

Cons:
The camera...why did you remove the top down view? I can imagine that on Nightmare it really is going to be a nightmare with friendly fire..
The convo wheel of fortune..every option leads to the same conclusion, i hope this doesnt hold true for every interaction in the game.
Cassandra the hairdresser .. i mean seeker

Conclusion
Eagerly awaiting my preorder; as i can live hopefully with the camera and the convo system.
Pretty damn good 7/10Posted Image

Every option leads to the same conclusion? You are aware that in origins it was the exact same way 9 times out of 10? It was just a different way of "saying" it.

No i mean in the demo we had two such instances. Firstly at the beginning when Hawke and family are running from the darkspawn, you have 3 convo options and all lead to mummy hawke saying yes i guess your right blah blah..in origins there would have been a rude response included ..think of nan in the human noble origin when you tell her to shut up or you will cut her tongue out.
Secondly the meeting Isabela and the henchmen in the chantry..no matter what you say Isabella is going to throw that dagger and kick things off . These were the only two examples i saw in the demo it is a demo after all which is why i said i hope the rest of the full game show some variation, now stop trolling others players feedback ..its downright rude.

The thing is, the gaming industry is just like anything else in life.  It evolves, changes, and moves "forward" (I use that term loosely because to some it may not seem like it.) Expecting it stay the same forever or even "remotely" the same is a perfect example of when some folks are "afraid of change".  Which, to a degree I can understand for nostalgia (probably mispelled that.) reasons.  But as a whole, it has to change with the times.  Which is the way of life in general.  You either change with the times, or you get run over by them.  The gaming industry is no different.

@Mercannis - Wasnt trolling really, merely pointing out flaws in your arguement.

The Good

class-specific cutscenes
I LOVE it how cutscenes are different depending on your class. I absolutely love it and thanks again for implementing this in the game. I can’t believe that I haven’t seen anyone else mentioned this.

Friendship/rivalry system
This has my full attention. I looked around the forums and the wiki and I gotta say I like everything I learned about it so far. It has nothing to do with morality, you can be somewhat antagonistic to your party members and still be able to unlock combat bonuses, quests and romances play differently depending on it, and companions gain bonuses whether they like you or not.

Characters
Female Hawke - amazing PC, Bioware. I find her absolutely lovely, especially the voice. The only thing I found a bit odd was the running but it’s no big deal.
Isabela - found myself interested in her and her story. Afterall, she did free all those slaves. Her new voice actor is great. Still, I don’t find her romanceable but at least her face seems less unattractive to me.
Aveline - is also starting to grow on me. Liked the voice acting, liked her intro and how she protected her husband. It’s great to have a female tank for a change. However, I hated those manly arms.
Wesley - that templar may have threatened Bethany but he totally earned my respect when I found out what he went through to get to his wife. His death was sad and I felt sorry for Aveline because it ended like that.
Carver - I totally love this guy now, he became more interesting to me than Bethany. I also enjoyed the demo better when I saw him fighting alongside mage Hawke. IMO, they make a better pair than warrior Hawke and Bethany.
Flemeth - her appearance in the demo is the WIN of all. Her “well, well, what have we here” line was very intriguing. Yay again for Kate Mulgrew and her great acting. I can’t wait to see more of her.

The new skill tree
While it wasn’t much, I like what I’ve seen about it so far. It was less linear and adds more customization.

Mages
Now have finishers, they have good combat animations and the silly hats are gone.

The Neutral

- Bethany's voice acting didn’t seem good at me. I need to hear more to draw a better conclusion.

- The voice of male Hawke is from the same guy who voiced…Vaughan?! At first it was a surprise but I got over it.

- No inventory in the demo! Why?

- The mother of Hawke is obviously Elanor Cousland, the mother of my Warden.

The Bad

- XP is gained after each battle instead of gaining it per enemy. I prefer it much more the way it was in DAO.

- Is it just me or does this game have a lot of spikiness?

- The graphics aren’t important to me when it comes to games with well written stories, but I gotta say it’s still disappointing. Especially because its 2011 and we were told that DA2 would be “super hot”.

-I don’t like that there is no option in choosing whether your brother or sister dies.

- Bethany’s/Carver’s death SUCKED. Their deaths were both poorly written and poorly presented. They also had no impact on me because there was no time to really interact with them and actually feel the loss and sadness. I’m aware that you didn’t wanted us players to feel anything when they die but it gets worse when it comes to Hawke. Hawke doesn’t give a #&%$ either way. WTF, he didn’t even bat an eyelid. I wanted to strangle the guy.
When it comes to only playing this demo, Bethany and Carver are redshirts, at best.
I seriously hope this trailer isn’t THAT inaccurate.

- AI was dumb at some times. Bethany was regularly missing enemies with her fireball when they were moving. There were also times when my companies were just standing and doing nothing. Hawke sometimes made odd movements with his staff instead of just attacking.

The dialogue wheel
So far I really dislike it. I’ve had less control over the PC and I felt little connection to Hawke. Writing was disappointing in some scenes. "At least father won't be alone now" was horrible and totally cringe worthy.
Hawke often said things that were completely different than I thought which is immersion-breaking, as other people mention it.
I like the new "tone" icons in dialogue. These icons may have been somewhat helpful but I couldn't figure out what they all meant and I still didn’t have any idea what Hawke was going to *say*.
Dialogues were shorter and there were much less options to choose from when compared to Origins.
Choosing “paragon” and then “renegade” dialogue after one another made Hawke seem like a schizophrenic.

Also, why haven’t you guys followed this idea?

The darkspawn
I HATE the new darkspawn! I hate how you changed them, its the absolute worst thing about the demo. They were great in DAO so why the terrible change?
The first thing they reminded me of was monkeys. No really, just look how they walk and hold those swords!
Talk about darkspawn being more cunning then they appear…Posted Image
The hell is this %$@#?! I can’t believe these are the same guys that my Warden fought at Ostagar and all the way till he reached the top of Fort Drakon. Thinking how Hawke is on the run makes me laugh.

The booby overkill
All the women have humongous breasts. It’s... odd and distracting, but honestly, I don’t mind it.
My problem comes up because of the way Isabella is dressed up during combat. She has like the worst possible outfit to wear on the battlefield.
It’s beyond dumb. When she jumps over 10 feet in the air and tanks against an enemy, I don’t know if I should either laugh or facepalm. Even that cutscene where she fights those men in the tavern was ridiculous.
I can’t take any fictional woman like that seriously. It totally ruins the character and I hated it in ME2. At least you guys haven't given her high heels.

But on the other hand, I read the post about Isabella in the “Dragon age 2 romances confirmed” thread. Since everything she once owned is now at the bottom of the ocean, it’s understandable why she has no other extra armor or clothes to wear during this time. So I can maybe let this pass.
But unless Isabella gets less revealing outfit later in the game, I probably won't be using her.

The Unsure
The combat – I… really…don’t… know what to think about the combat.  I can write a whole essay about it but I’ll keep this short.

"Fight like a Spartan! Think like a general!" Uhm…..I’ll just leave it at that.

Overall, the combat is: too fast, over-the-top , cartoonish, over excessive, unrealistic, overblown, comical, ridiculous, flashy, oversimplified and I fear it will quickly get boring.

The combat is unrealistic and totally disengaging for the world of Dragon Age. Tactical gameplay seems ruined. Everything in the demo was too easy. I hope strategy will play a more important role later on as the story progresses and as all characters gain access to more skills.

And whats up with all the ridiculous gore? A darkspawn explodes even when he gets shot by an arrow or when he gets backstabbed by a rouge.  Im amazed that no one has been exposed to the darkspawn taint.

Now this rant I can get behind, it's well thought out and not a lot of screaming. Thank you! Posted Image

Can I get any love for the ability/attribute/etc UI from anyone ?

I dont think so. Im not saying that DAO was great in this regard but DA2 Ui is a bit like a modern airport, bland and interchangeable for any country(or game in this regard)

A bit of medieval / fantasy scroll work down the side, maybe some less modern furniture colouring would go along way to help the UI.

I see absolutly nothing wrong with the title Dragon Age 2. Which simply means "2nd game in the Dragon Age franchice" If it was a sequal it would have been called "Dragon Age: Origins 2" most likely...so realisticly if you hate the title it's from your own pre-conceptions and not anything Bioware did in that regard.

Trying to make the dialogue style similar to Mass Effect wasn't a bad idea or anything, but yes you have shown there, it's kind of a failed attempt at it, what is the point of "Paragon" "Renegade" options when they all lead to the same result.

Rubbish.  That's like Judging a  whole movie based on a 30 second trailer that features a few explosions and a car chase.

This demo was  for showcasing the UI and to give you a quick taste of low level combat and control.  It's meant as a teaser, and nothing more.
