I don't play a lot of demos, so I don't know how to judge this one compared to others; instead, I'll just mention some thoughts that stuck in my mind - things I really noticed and appreciated.
I really loved how much more cinematic it was. It seemed like there was put a lot more effort into the composition of the scenes and the camerawork - Like how the camera panned down through the shot with Leandra holding her child's face in her hands, with the sun between them. I also liked how music seemed to be more integrated in scenes, and that there was some familiarity from DA:O, but not too much to feel copied.
To me, the environments were interesting and atmospheric. The first area (blightlands?) had an especially nice
vista, and I noticed the sky was quite stunning. It seemed to drag on with the barren destruction of it all, but the action and all that was happening kept it interesting and made it all fly by. Kirkwall was a breath of fresh air and had a lot of nooks and crannies I was itching to explore, with some interesting-looking details.
Considering the gameplay, it was familiar but feels more like playing and upgraded version of DA:O on
PC... but on console. While playing DA:O on console I really missed some tactical features from the PC version, but I'm happy to see that they're not missing this time around. Also, combat was really fun and
engaging – maybe because of the lack of autoattack, but it didn't feel as much as though I was playing a robot tied to the programming. It felt more freeform, especially as a rogue.
Oh, and I really liked things like the tone changing according to last dialogue and that the codex gave a
bit more background info on the family and their history, but I suppose that last part was a given :b

I was growing up playing Black Isle games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate saga, which hooked me up on RPGs.
According to Biowares new and current fanbase, those games are all crap and no one likes them.
DA2 is what they want, simple, brainless, unbelievably easy, point, click, win.
RIP Bioware indeed.
Too much hate! The era of the old RPG's is indeed over. But stop with the clinging to the old games, yes they were great, awesome and I had a lot of fun with them but don't hate the new ones because they are not the old ones.

Sigh, since no one seems to be saying it, let me say again that the CAMERA sucks ass. Let me zoom out, I can't aim a fireball down the road if I can;t actually pan my camera there.
Camera worked fine for me.
Yah, sure. Console Gamer? If so, then sure it did, it's tailored for your limited gamebox. If you played it on PC and think that level of zoom is "fine", then you Sir, are a fool of a Took.

First off, I love the new feel of the game: tapping "A" for every attack, the improved combat moves and short cooldown times, the level-up screens, character design, Hawke's armor, everything. I especially love the way mages' and archers' base attacks look and feel, as well as their stellar spells/combat moves.
For conversations, I love the Mass Effect 2-style conversation wheel, although I enjoyed the layout from DAO more because I loved acting out the line that my character was saying; I don't mind the change, though, seeing as I can know for sure whether what I'm saying is sarcastic or not, as in Mass Effect 2-it was hard to tell sometimes in DAO. I hope that in the full game you can strike up a conversation with companions whenever you want. I really enjoyed the lip synchronization in the demo-it is FANTASTIC.
At the time of this posting, I have only played as Hawke the Warrior, but I can't wait to play as the Mage Hawke and Rogue Hawke very shortly. I know that both will be just as fun-if not even MORE fun- than playing as a warrior.
I loved DAO and could rarely ever put it, or any of the DLC, down; DAO is one of my favorite games of all time and I can't wait to continue my adventures in the Dragon Age universe. Thank you for the long demo and good luck with the launch.
Bioware, you do such PHENOMENAL jobs with your RPGs, and that is why I hope to work for you in the near future.

Gameplay was a lot smoothier compared to Origins, and so were the animations. The skills and their devasting effects (blowing darkspawn literally into pieces! Yay! (which IIRC was lacking in the X360 demo, though..)) - everyting perfect. Except for one thing. Since I played the 360 version over 6 hours ago, and the pc version just moments ago, I don't remember if this was present in both versions, or both genders, but I really dislike the out-of-combat/exploration running animation of (Female, at least) Hawke. It just looks silly, imo. Anyways, BioWare, great job!
I must confess, though -- I never bought the first one, I played it halfway through at my friend's house. But this one.. This one I'm definately going to buy! - placing order as I type, actually ^^

Judging from the demo, in which I have only played a female dual-wielding rogue so far, I enjoy rogues even more in DA2 than I did in Origins -- where it was my favorite class. The battle animations for my lovely lady were great. The exaggerated hip-swaying did incite some eye-rolling, I must confess, but I can deal. I didn't find the conversation wheel as cumbersome as I thought it may be. I'm looking forward to the release.
It may have already been brought up, but I think it worth a mention anyway that when my party met Isabela, Carver was in the cut scene instead of Bethany. Once the cut scene was over, Bethany was back and all was well.

Whether it's as 'deep' with regards to story and character development as earlier BioWare games remains to be seen. It is, however, too early (I think anyway) to pass sentence. I know us RPG players tend to be a conservative bunch. Some of us, I'm sure, are still angry that dice are no longer included. But why not give these guys the benefit of the doubt?
One thing I'm not sure of is the stylized look of the game. I fear the game might be less atmospheric as a result.
Oh, and those boobs on Isabela are in serious defiance of the laws of gravity...

Dude lol your real life must be hell to spend your time bashing a demo in the companys forums repeatidly, I mean what sort of personel hangups does someone like you have to say you hate the game and your not buying yet you remain lol . The witcher was fail and if that and BG2 is the only 2 that are what you consider the standard for RPGs well I guess the future will just be full of disapointment.
Its not my problem that you cant read.
I''ve given plenty of examples of decent RPGs that I enjoy, and havnt even mentioned 20% of the ones I like.
The reason why I used Baldur's Gate to compare to is because this is the game that made Bioware who they are today. Yet they do nothing but insult their original fanbase by refusing to create anything similar or as good as that game.
I felt that Dragon Age Origins was a step in the right direction. It had a lot of similarities with the gameplay from Baldur's Gate and I really enjoyed the strategic combat, camera angles, spell system and overall gameplay.
Dragon Age 2 is a POS in comparison to the great games that Bioware has already created in the RPG genre.

Nah, this is a great game for all the people who think that the Baldur's Gate series sucks and was way too hard. They needed something far far more simple, and dumbed down to the point where all they had to do was point, click, and win.
Reading through the thread to get a feel of the demo before I get to play it since I'm still waiting on it (PS3 for me). But God, I see your comment on almost every page, and it's not like I don't respect your opinion but you're a bit over your head. All you do is insult others for enjoying DA2, saying it's dumbed down and people who like it are simple minded and basically don't know how to enjoy a good and complex game like Baldur's Gate.
WELL GET OVER IT! People like different kinds of games, not everyone wants to play a super complex game. Some people do like complex games and good for them, and you know what DA2 ISN'T THAT...OKAY? Not everyone is going to have the TIME or the EFFORT to play a super complex RPG. But that doens't mean they don't enjoy a good story and they don't enjoy being immersed into a great universe with an interesting narrative, and THAT in my opinion is what RPG is all about. THAT is the essence of RPG, not a complex skill tree with 50 skills that are completely useless, NOT a battle system that is "complex" but actually just tedious and poorly designed.
Bioware is expanding it's audience by changing their battle system so that it's faster and more viseral, THEY ARE NOT SELLING OUT. They want people to play their game, they want people to enjoy the story of DA2. Bioware isn't a company tha'ts here to make RPGs for you only, they're here to make games THEY WANT TO make and games that PEOPLE WANT TO play.
So stop telling the people who enjoyed the demo that all they want is an easy/simple/dumbed down game as if you're superior in any way, shape or form. Great you like complex RPGs, you are so smart and complex. The most intelligent forum lurker ever.
To everyone else, sorry that I took the discussion off tangent. I'm new here and I don't post much nor do I like getting into forum arguements, but this just really urked me.

That's debatable. I felt that the game looked ugly as hell on medium settings, especially when compared to max settings on Origins. Character textures and lighting overall felt bland. I would have tried the game on High, but like you, I get 10-15 fps with "High" settings which shouldn't happen but I assume it's a demo thing.Dec4denc3 wrote...
The demo was good; I tried both PC (Female Rogue) and Xbox 360 (Male Warrior) and everything was great. The combat, graphics (I got 10-15 fps with "High" settings and over 60 with medium, but even the medium setting looked superior to Origins. (where I had everything maxed)

I love no hate!
But i would change your sentence from "yes, they were great games" to "yes, they ARE great games"!
I have played DA:O 3 times; 2 times finished and i played Awakening only once.
Why? I dont know the specific reason, but i know, that i have played Baldurs Gate 2 alone over a dozen times!
And I even replayed it every year and even used the BG Trilogy mod etc etc.
There is no problem imo for changing the game; but I do not feel positive about the new concepts and ideas.

At one point I couldn't select any targets, switching between companions seemed to resolve that for whatever reason.
Some of the animations still felt off unfortunately.
Otherwise it was nice.
