After playing it once again, I have only one fitting summary :

Why not, heh, more than 18 unique responses to a single line of dialogue, many of those skill dependent (bluff erc) - the screen resolution doesn't give it enough justice.

And 17 of those 18 responses will lead to the same outcome 9 times out of 10.

I get the feeling that people who hated this went in expecting to hate it, since most of the complaints, ( besides text size) seem like just more of the same thing we have been hearing for the past few months.

I went in with an open mind and still ended up hating it. I can't back a charrie I don't give two ****s about. I think if I would have met Hawke before this or if he played a role in what I did I could back this game more. The combat was amazing though. I really enjoyed seeing it.

I wouldnt get my hopes up for DA3 then if I were you in terms of 'caring about a character" because honestly, I really doubt that your warden is going to make a comeback for that game. Seeing as how DA3 will almost definately have a voiced main character, it would make folks even more angry in that sense to see their "silent hero" suddenly given a voice. so for DA3, expect Hawke to make a comeback, or another protagonist all together.

Ok, If you think comapring and older RPG from a same developer to his newest creation is not a fair game, lets compare DA;O with DA II
DA:O had an extensive chat system (for today's, simplified standards)
DA2 changed it to a butchered vague system (the wheel of dum).
DA:O had amazing choices for choosing and creating your own character.
DA2 has a ready to go character.
DA:O had an array of heterogeneous dialogue responses.
DA2 allows you to pick between Cpt.Jesus, Big MacBad and teh Funney.
DA:O had RPG combat, strategy and positioning.
DA2 has button mashing/cooldown blowing hack'n slash combat.
DA:O had decent graphics
.DA2 has bland graphics even for a 2007 game.
DA:O had those horrible random blood splatters on your armor that everyone hated.
DA2 keeps them in the game.
DA:O had its text placed to the upmost part of the screen for no apparent reason
.DA2 keeps it as it is.
DA:O had credible combat animations with occasional finishing moves.
DA2 flashes the player with shaolin mages, sonic-speed warriors and teleporting rogues.
DA:O tried to be an RPG.
DA2 is not a RPG.

I expect Hawke to be a two parter myself.
None of those were skill dependent. PS:T was approximately 2 years too primitive to employ stuff like diplomacy, intimidate and bluff. Instead, it just used your existing stats. (intelligence, wisdom, charisma) And even then, just about all of them either led nowhere in the dialogue, or they all lead to the exact same response by the person you're talking to.Elishia wrote...

But even aside from that, this is a very disingenuous comparison. That screenshot represents the very latter stages of the game (about 5 minutes before the end.) .... a game who's very PLOT is about an amesiac who's primary goal is to go around and ask questions. Intentionally unfair. Why not compare the two games tutorials/prologues? Because doing that would level the playing field. Here's what PS:T looks like that early.
TNO (to Morte):
1) who are you?
2) Who am I?
3) where are we?
4) How did I get here?

True, but given the fact that if the full game is like this demo they may have to go old school just so they can make a DA3. Again, at the time DAO was RPG of the year in many circles. Did no one learn from Coke when it changed it's formula? They pretty much tossed out the game and replaced with something completely different that is loosely based on DAO. They were foolish to call this game a sequel in the first place, they should have called it Dragon Age: The Rise of Hawke. Then put out an actual D2 that was improved from the original.
The art style for me so far sucks. Darkspawn dressed like they raided the Gimps wardrobe from Pulp Fiction, the armors are no where near as nice looking. No intricate engraving detail.

I played the demo through a few times on high setting at highest resolution, and it's still baffling me how half-assed the Blightlands and the new hurlock models look. At first I thought the graphics looked like a step back, then I realized the graphics were actually better, but the art direction was much, much worse. I guess it's just a matter of taste.
Good observation. You can't argue about taste, however, I think the graphics, animations, etc. are a step up, while the now used art style is sometimes a huge step down. I do like most characters and NPCs, Flemeth for example, but the dark spawn look just terrible.
honestly, the DS were one of the few things I didnt like about the demo in admendment to one of my previous statements. However, to be quite honest (and in my own personal opinion) the DS in origins looked just as "generic" with only a few slight variations to them. So to me, really wasnt too much of a "change" in opinion from origins in regards to the DS.
In fact, Im going to go out on a proverbial limb here and say I liked them "slightly" better than the ones in origins.

HUH?
Only a few variations to the DS in origins??? Did you not notice the Genlocks and Hurlock differences in not only loooks and armor, but height?? Emissary Hurlock look all different and wear different armor than other hurlocks. Genlock Emisarries look different from other Genlocks. The ones in this demo are all the same and do the same things, running arounf twirling their swords like batons, with no alternate animations. The archers have those weird helmets, and the Hurlocks and grunt are the exact same characters, wearing the exact same armors having the exact same physical features. How you went out on that limb and survived the fall after it broke baffles me.

I'll take a better 'sequal' to DA:O for a thousand please. Yeah what was up with Disco Mage Hawke. I didn't preorder the game and this demo makes me super glad I didn't waste my time doing that.Aldaris951 wrote...
Thanks for the demo bioware. You saved me 40 pounds lmao. I feared the game would be like this I should never of preordered the sig edition but no matter it's cancelled now. The music is boring the voice acting is terrible and the animations are a joke. Disco Mage hawke ftw? I will wait till you guys make da3 with morrigan and the warden returning. Thanks.
