The only problem I have with the demo is with the first part of it (especially in the "exagerrated" part). I will quote what I posted in another thread:

"I'm having a little problem with the demo on PC, but I don't get if it's an issue coming from my system or not but it doesn't happen (not it ever happend) with any other game. So I ask if someone have the same to pinpoint the problem.

Every once in a while the game stops and it shows "loading...", ranging from 2 to 5 seconds. It happens mostly on the "exagerated" portion of the game. For example the game goes then I kill the Ogre with Winter Blast and this "loading..." comes. It's really bugging, especially if it happens every minute or so for the most disparate motive.

Now I have a RAID 0 system and the disk isn't active so I cannot get what the issue could be. I even tried logging out (thinking that the servers were a bit overloaded and the upload of infos slowed down the game) but it doesn't change anything. I tried everything (I disabled EVERY background app, changed all setting to bare minimum, disabled SLI, removed writeback cache on the RAID etc.) but nothing seems to work.

So, does this happen to anybody else? If a dev can have a suggestion I would be grateful.

My system:
I7 920
6 GB of RAM DD3
Nvidia GTX 295
RAID 0 (32 bit scrape size) with 2 Maxtor 500 GB"

In the Isabela part it doesn't happen, either minimally. I'm beginning to think is something having to do with how the demo is packaged or assembled, that creates some issues with some systems (if the problem is not so widespread). I believe the full game will not have this issue, in fact.

Apart this, I loved the demo.

Had the same here, try switching to DirectX 11 Renderer.
It solved the problem for me, even when I left the settings on medium (I don't have enough hardware for Very High, as my card is only DX10, and High has some awkard lighting effects here and there)
I've experienced two crashes during three playthroughs though. Happened when the scene changed from combat to dialogue and vice versa.

I'm not sure if I'm the only person experiencing these issues, but...I run a fairly nice rig, intel i7 2600k @ 4.8ghz, 8gb of ram, tri-sli 480gtx, all watercooled using the latest nvidia drivers (266.58).

I turned the settings on directx 11 up to high (can't go to very high in the demo) on 1920x1080, maxed everything as I have been able to do for every AA title I've played of late that uses directx11.

1) SLI doesnt work, or it shackily works, I have gadget on my other screen that shows graphic card use (GPU/MB of Texture memory in use it etc), during the cut scenes it jumps around from card to card never using more than 1/3 of each card, but then suddenly shooting up to 100% on 1 card and 1% on each of the others. Once this begins to occur my video framerate drops and stutters.

2) During gameplay I experience textures that appear black or missing when i pan the camera and look down at my character. During gameplay, only 1 of my cards is used to render the game, the other 2 remain idle, being a directx11 game it suffers because of this.

Now if SLI didn't make it to the demo thats fine I'll play with it turned off, but considering to run any directx11 game at a decent resolution/framerate and texture quality its pretty much a requirement, i hope that in the final product (i've preordered) that you get this right.

Can't comment on video performance, as my sodding XPs won't even let me try DX11 (that is my fault, trying to hold onto the good old system, I know), buuut loved the clear and uncluttered UI, as well as the sounds and music, definitely a great choice there. Also, playing a mage suddenly looked so action-filled, all the cool movements of the staff, not just the constant pew pew like before.

However, and I guess it's just my wishful thinking, will there be a possibility to have an option to change the ingame font in the final version? It might just be me, but it just rubs me all kinds of weird to see the measly serif'd font over the darkspawn heads, looking vastly cheaper than the rest of the interface. *slaps self to have font issues*

Either way, just gotta come to terms with the fact that DA2 ain't DA:O, and let myself enjoy what the new stuff brings. :)

Too much hate! The era of the old RPG's is indeed over. But stop with the clinging to the old games, yes they were great, awesome and I had a lot of fun with them but don't hate the new ones because they are not the old ones.

I agree, but i feel cheated when they call them RPGs... It's like calling Ducati a Ferrari... They are red, but not the same thing...

To PC people having framerate issues, tried diabling v-sync in video options ?

Now onto the feedback :

I played the early leak of the German demo this weekend, but since I don't get a word of German it was totally worth downloading again. Now the first time around I had apparently missed the option that improves graphics quality, so I was quite disappointed with how it looked, but that was low setting. Medium looks much better, and I hope I can see what the full game can give in high setting (my card and OS dont support DX11).

Now onto the game itself. Combat first, I played 2 rogues now, one dual-wield, one archer. Overall the experience was comparable because party composition is fixed and I like to play everyone. One of my first actions was to actually disable tactics, I don't really like the AI squandering my ressources in pointless displays of awesome on weak enemies, especially not when you only have 2 abilities to use on each character. I think I'll keep the minimalist approach to tactics I used in Origins and micro everything else myself.

The class differenciation system works pretty well for me, though actually I find rogues are now more similar to mages than to warriors, somehow. I've seen a few cases of the infamous shuffling animation (trying to shield bash an opponent at point blank in a crowded area made aveline take a few steps to the side before it actually went off), which now looks even more awkward because every other animation is sped up.

Difficulty, it was relatively easy, as expected from locking the difficulty to normal. Though maybe not as easy as I would have feared (I paused unfrequently but regularly, didn't lose any party member, but I had to use healing. I shall now commit seppuku).

Overall my greatest dislike about combat is that it doesn't feel deadly enough. At least basic attacks don't. Normal enemies are bearable but bosses and party members can really take a lot of punishment, so overall I wish damage was multiplied by like 1.5 to 2 accross the board, from this small sample of battles. I don't think I saw any enemies except the ogre use any special abilities, just regular attacks, that's somewhat disappointing. I owuldn't know if they used any though because I can't be looking at them all the time and there's no more text to call attacks.

Out-of-combat:

Running speed out of combat seems a bit slow maybe. Well it makes sense in a way, no-one can be sprinting all the time after all, but it just seems to lengthen in-area travel time pointlessly. Will have to play the full game to know how much toruble it actually is.

Dialogue : spoken lines ranged from good to meh, Hawke's witty remarks are awesome if you use that tone. The tone of voices can sound off in some situations, a little emotionless basically.

Performance : run pretty much flawlessly for me. Some small pauses before cutscenes, but they were already there in Origins

Dude lol your real life must be hell to spend your time bashing a demo in the companys forums repeatidly, I mean what sort of personel hangups does someone like you have to say you hate the game and your not buying yet you remain lol .  The witcher was fail and if that and BG2 is the only 2 that are what you consider the standard for RPGs well I guess the future will just be full of disapointment.

Its not my problem that you cant read.

I''ve given plenty of examples of decent RPGs that I enjoy, and havnt even mentioned 20% of the ones I like.

The reason why I used Baldur's Gate to compare to is because this is the game that made Bioware who they are today. Yet they do nothing but insult their original fanbase by refusing to create anything similar or as good as that game.

I felt that Dragon Age Origins was a step in the right direction. It had a lot of similarities with the gameplay from Baldur's Gate and I really enjoyed the strategic combat, camera angles, spell system and overall gameplay.

Dragon Age 2 is a POS in comparison to the great games that Bioware has already created in the RPG genre.

Nah, this is a great game for all the people who think that the Baldur's Gate series sucks and was way too hard. They needed something far far more simple, and dumbed down to the point where all they had to do was point, click, and win.

Reading through the thread to get a feel of the demo before I get to play it since I'm still waiting on it (PS3 for me). But God, I see your comment on almost every page, and it's not like I don't respect your opinion but you're a bit over your head. All you do is insult others for enjoying DA2, saying it's dumbed down and people who like it are simple minded and basically don't know how to enjoy a good and complex game like Baldur's Gate.

WELL GET OVER IT! People like different kinds of games, not everyone wants to play a super complex game. Some people do like complex games and good for them, and you know what DA2 ISN'T THAT...OKAY? Not everyone is going to have the TIME or the EFFORT to play a super complex RPG. But that doens't mean they don't enjoy a good story and they don't enjoy being immersed into a great universe with an interesting narrative, and THAT in my opinion is what RPG is all about. THAT is the essence of RPG, not a complex skill tree with 50 skills that are completely useless, NOT a battle system that is "complex" but actually just tedious and poorly designed.

Bioware is expanding it's audience by changing their battle system so that it's faster and more viseral, THEY ARE NOT SELLING OUT. They want people to play their game, they want people to enjoy the story of DA2. Bioware isn't a company tha'ts here to make RPGs for you only, they're here to make games THEY WANT TO make and games that PEOPLE WANT TO play.

So stop telling the people who enjoyed the demo that all they want is an easy/simple/dumbed down game as if you're superior in any way, shape or form. Great you like complex RPGs, you are so smart and complex. The most intelligent forum lurker ever.

To everyone else, sorry that I took the discussion off tangent. I'm new here and I don't post much nor do I like getting into forum arguements, but this just really urked me.

We had some problems with loading before conversations in some PC configurations that are likely what you've been experiencing. My wife's PC had similar issues, and I can happily confirm that hers no longer has this issue between the time we were working on the demo and the final builds of the game. Likely an issue that's already resolved in the shipping build.

Yes, that's exactly the problem I have too. It happens only on the "first" part of the demo (the one before Isabela) so I already thought it was not a problem with the full game. It doesn't happen only prior to conversations (at last for me) but also during some encounters (for example it happens before the deathblow to the Ogre).

I thought the demo was great and I liked how responsive the combat was however I was getting tired of mashing the A button and occasionally throwing in a special move. Warrior I thought was a little bit dull, mage however was absolutely amazing, I know what class I will be playing as first! Havent tried rogue yet but I intend to.

Played both X360 and PC version and this is my thoughts.

Man this game looks terrible, the textures are a mumbled mix of decent ones and terrible ones, Just take a look at Avaline I mean seriously her clothes are painted on, The backgrounds are dull and bland even in the city, The weapons looks like they are made of stone and about three sizes to big.

The path finding is atrocious but it wouldn't really be a Bioware game if it weren't.

The Hurlocks looks like the bastard kids of Skeletor.

Flemeth has change from the normal looking woman to Flemeth the bondage queen.

I liked the new menu system.

The voice work was good.

All in all impression is that this game plays and looks like a low budget affair i seriously doubt that if it were made by anybody other than Bioware that people would even notice it.

Demo worked perfectly, download was fast and smooth, considering that there must have been hundreds if not thousands of peeps downloading it.

The demo showed us how the game works, introduced to us the new level mechanism.

Also Bioware seems to have understood that even if the graphics are made little more "cartoonish" the game doesnt need to look like some candyland parody *gough WoW*

Great job Bioware, I was expecting a good demo but I got and excellent demo! All my fears for this game has gone down the crapper and cant wait until March to get the whole game :)

Played it on my PC, I don't know the specs--I know it's not too good--but when it was running the cutscenes at the default settings, it was very choppy, the graphics looked a little box-esque. When Cassandra frowned in the first scene it was just a really dark triange between her eyes =( Also, at the start of Isabella's mission, I explored around the chantry after the initial fight, and when I went back to search the bodies, the "Mission Marker" of Isabella was on the opposite side of the square on the map. My PC might've just messed it up, but otherwise it could be like that for other missions, too. After that, when she ran to the Chantry and we started fighting outside it crashed =/...

So aside from that, it's really good. I love the writing, the beginning's very well scripted =) The new gameplay is amazing--did it with a Mage. It does live up to what you guys have been saying about it. Oh, and even with the poor graphics on my PC, I could still see the clear detail in the darkspawn's faces, which was very good. I think because it was the most...coherant(?) part of the image on screen, but kudos on that part, they look amazing *thumbs up*...

I'll be playing the demo on my PS3, too, and I'm-a getting DA2 for the consolde as well, so it should look a lot nicer when it's viewed on there. Anyways, looking forward to the 11th, and thank you for the demo, good sir's *tips hat*...

In few words, this demo suck and the interface is A SHAME.

1. The interface design can be nice for a console game, but for PC it sucks like few in PC videogame history. Is not friendly, is too "big", it has too many colors not in tone with the game, and the hud is just too much childish.

2. The main male character has a design different from all the other characters, and imho it is quite annoying...

3. The engine looks cool and the story maybe will be interesting too.

To me this game at the moment can get no more than 6/10.

My opinion Hawkes voice is damn depressing the VO is just really bad the female is pretty good but the male version just wont work for me i mean... yeah it just feels to robotic not caring bland type VO then say commander shepard of the Mass Eeffect series

classes.....classes classes classes i mean all really cool and well done it all still feels a bit buggy to me tough wich worries me so close to release but i trust bioware to fix this in time

Also Archery really hit the spark for me i wasnt expecting it to be be so fun normaly i lean heavely to the more standerd mage or warrior class i never even consider the rogue class in these games but dagger/backstab combat style i tought was pretty lame but Archery was awesome also it seemed to me Archery did the most damage over the mage.

I played, watched the cutscene with Varric and Pentaghast, and the voice sounds was REALLY quiet! Why is this happening to me?! I checked the audio, and that was all fine. I put subtitles on, but just couldn;t watch it without the voices being there. And it's only conversation voices. Combat speech and sound effects are fine. It's just the voices that sounds like they're trapped behind an echoic door.

So I stopped playing any further before I rip my ears off, or until someone comes up with a solution.

You know you can adjust the volume levels for different audio areas like voices, combat sounds and music?
When I dropped combat sounds down two notches and music one notch, the sounds were quite nicely in balance. Occasionally I could've wanted a bit louder music, but's that's my feeling.

There are those of us who are also among their original fanbase, but who happen to feel little need for nostalgia and accept that the RPG genre and games in general have changed over the last decade, and that "simplification" (because I definitely agree that's what has happened with games like ME2 and DA2 compared to eg. the old Infinity Engine games) doesn't necessarily mean a less entertaining game experience - just a different one. And one I personally prefer these days over.
