Not a very informational comment, but did anyone else notice that the mother's voice was the same as Teyrna Eleanor Cousland in DAO? This made me very happy! <3 Squee~

Yes, I said that when the YouTube video reveiwer filmed his play through. It made me annoyed.

Just finished playing the demo on PC (female rogue). I really loved it. The graphics and new art style look way better than I expected. The combat seems much more fluent and fun, yet I still could play very tactically (I think this will be even more interesting in the real game and on nightmare). And I'm so very happy that my all-time favourite class (archer) is actually fun to play, and useful :) Voicing was very good, not that I expected anything else :)

The only thing that really bugged me was lady Hawke's running. She looked like her neck was broken, poor thing.

Overall, I just can't wait till March th :)

Aside from that, the loading during cutscenes is choppy and obtrusive and the lipsynching is off in some of the cutscenes.

Had the same here, try switching to DirectX 11 Renderer.
It solved the problem for me, even when I left the settings on medium (I don't have enough hardware for Very High, as my card is only DX10, and High has some awkard lighting effects here and there)
I've experienced two crashes during three playthroughs though. Happened when the scene changed from combat to dialogue and vice versa.

I just tried this and it worked for me too. Now to attempt to play through the rest of it.

Xbox 360 Demo

It felt like Dynasty warriors, lots of enemies, lots of button mashing with cooldowns that need to be used in an ideal situation.

I'll explain my only gripes with the game.

Animation: Hasn't moved forward at all, choppy NPC movements, (Isabella) almost expressionless faces, Darkspawn redesign makes them look and behave like power ranger bad guys, especially their running animation.

Companions:

None of them were memorable in my eyes, Isabela may aswel have been an entirely new character to the series, since she now looks like Esmerelda out of Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Aveline with her bright ginger hair was completely uninteresting and I couldn't wait to get rid of her, I was surprised to read that she will be a permanent companion (Although unknown if you can get rid of her).

I was surprised when Varric was labelled as a dwarf since he has almost nothing in common with his pre tolkien like dwarven brothers and sisters, hell I just thought he was just vertically challenged.

Combat:

Almost no death animations apart from cutscenes, hurlocks just explode into a mess of limbs from simple attacks like a back stab, bladed mage staff may aswel have not been bladed at all (Our trade off for the Arcane Warrior) and without cooldowns I felt powerless as a rogue just having to spam my normal attack.

Overall, I think I'll still get the game because some of the changes that I won't mention here I expected and prepared myself for said changes.

I just hope that like Mass Effect 2, it warmed to me after the first hour or so into the story, because my first thoughts on Mass Effect 2 was that it was an abomination compared to the first.

Reading through the thread to get a feel of the demo before I get to play it since I'm still waiting on it (PS3 for me). But God, I see your comment on almost every page, and it's not like I don't respect your opinion but you're a bit over your head. All you do is insult others for enjoying DA2, saying it's dumbed down and people who like it are simple minded and basically don't know how to enjoy a good and complex game like Baldur's Gate.

WELL GET OVER IT! People like different kinds of games, not everyone wants to play a super complex game. Some people do like complex games and good for them, and you know what DA2 ISN'T THAT...OKAY? Not everyone is going to have the TIME or the EFFORT to play a super complex RPG. But that doens't mean they don't enjoy a good story and they don't enjoy being immersed into a great universe with an interesting narrative, and THAT in my opinion is what RPG is all about. THAT is the essence of RPG, not a complex skill tree with 50 skills that are completely useless, NOT a battle system that is "complex" but actually just tedious and poorly designed.

Bioware is expanding it's audience by changing their battle system so that it's faster and more viseral, THEY ARE NOT SELLING OUT. They want people to play their game, they want people to enjoy the story of DA2. Bioware isn't a company tha'ts here to make RPGs for you only, they're here to make games THEY WANT TO make and games that PEOPLE WANT TO play.

So stop telling the people who enjoyed the demo that all they want is an easy/simple/dumbed down game as if you're superior in any way, shape or form. Great you like complex RPGs, you are so smart and complex. The most intelligent forum lurker ever.

To everyone else, sorry that I took the discussion off tangent. I'm new here and I don't post much nor do I like getting into forum arguements, but this just really urked me.

The problem is, that there are already more then enough Studios, which make such "easygoing" """RPG"""" 's.
Bioware was and is the only bastion for deep story, character and battle-wise games.
So, yes; there should be easier games for people who dont like to Micro, Farm and invest time and energy into a progressive game.
Well, then play all the other games! Why should a "spiritual successor" of BG be watered down too?
Where are now the good games for us players, who care about tactical battles, many customizations, different gaming approaches and sidestories?

It is really ironic, that the only good "real" "RPG" that keeps old strengths AND combines different Genres seems to be Deus Ex 3.
And Witcher 2 seems at least like a more classic RPG approach.

1. The interface design can be nice for a console game, but for PC it sucks like few in PC videogame history. Is not friendly, is too "big", it has too many colors not in tone with the game, and the hud is just too much childish.

Why do you all hate color blind people?  Do you understand how hard it was for a color blind person to see the health meters on DA:O?

Played on PC, only problem was a crash when login in, after that it went smoothly.

Now I'm hoping that it's just because it's a demo that I did not get the RPG feel, because the only feeling I got was a slashem, don't mistake that, I enjoyed the combat but thats all it appeared to be.

Noted a couple of graphics issues, quite a lot of clipping with arms melding badly into shoulder wear, very low poly count, also noticed while playing as a mage just after helping issy in the first battle that my femhawkes head was not connected very well to the neck, I thought it was mother from awakening in desguise!, there was a definite gap in the body geometry that you could see through.

This demo was not very inspiring, but I'm still getting the full game.

Yea, thats why that game still has such a large dedicated fan base today, is regarded as the best RPG ever made, and was the best game bioware ever made.

The tainted iron idea was fine. All you had to do was use magical weapons instead which were easilly available.

Also trying to even imply that Baldurs Gate was in any way worse than DA2 just shows how completely clueless you are about RPgs, its no wonder why you would like DA2 so much.

What? No. No, it isn't and I am in no way alone. There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment and the first two Fallout games that most would rank higher above the first Baldur's Gate. Then, I'd throw in Morrowind and Deus Ex (FPS RPG, but whatever it's a moot point). For what it's worth, I regard (edit) KOTOR as Bioware's best so far.

It's an old game for people who refuse to move on into the present. I used to be like that, and shyed away from anything that wasn't Forgotten Realms. But then I pulled my head out of my arse and realised that a grainy isometric view with a laboured interface isn't the bes thing since sliced bread, especially in 2011.

You Sir/Ma'am/In Between are full of hurr and durr and dare I say it some herpaderpaderp.

Planescape: Torment isn't a sequel to anything!!

Also, if moving on is so important, I bet in 5 years time you'll look back at DA2 and regard it as a piece of crap, whether or not you enjoy it now.

Games don't become 'obsolete' in the same way that technology does. Pong is still very much playable now as it was in the 1970s. As long as a game is playable on modern hardware or through emulation, it can be played and enjoyed. Baldur's Gate is perfectly playable now.

What I find weird is how people that hate the demo keeps posting their opinions again and again. We get the point... you hate the game because of a 1 hour long demo. Great! There's still the Witcher 2 and Skyrim that are coming out! No need to repeat your opinions and bash anyone that enjoyed the demo.

The constant bashing really doesn't help your case. :P

I was growing up playing Black Isle games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate saga, which hooked me up on RPGs.

According to Biowares new and current fanbase, those games are all crap and no one likes them.

DA2 is what they want, simple, brainless, unbelievably easy, point, click, win.

RIP Bioware indeed.

Dude lol your real life must be hell to spend your time bashing a demo in the companys forums repeatidly, I mean what sort of personel hangups does someone like you have to say you hate the game and your not buying yet you remain lol .  The witcher was fail and if that and BG2 is the only 2 that are what you consider the standard for RPGs well I guess the future will just be full of disapointment.

Its not my problem that you cant read.

I''ve given plenty of examples of decent RPGs that I enjoy, and havnt even mentioned 20% of the ones I like.

The reason why I used Baldur's Gate to compare to is because this is the game that made Bioware who they are today. Yet they do nothing but insult their original fanbase by refusing to create anything similar or as good as that game.

I felt that Dragon Age Origins was a step in the right direction. It had a lot of similarities with the gameplay from Baldur's Gate and I really enjoyed the strategic combat, camera angles, spell system and overall gameplay.

Dragon Age 2 is a POS in comparison to the great games that Bioware has already created in the RPG genre.

There are those of us who are also among their original fanbase, but who happen to feel little need for nostalgia and accept that the RPG genre and games in general have changed over the last decade, and that "simplification" (because I definitely agree that's what has happened with games like ME2 and DA2 compared to eg. the old Infinity Engine games) doesn't necessarily mean a less entertaining game experience - just a different one. And one I personally prefer these days over.

I really dont get how people of the original fanbase can stand how dumbed down these RPGs are getting today. Its not just a case of the games changing, its a case of removing everything that is good and challenging about the gameplay, and simply making it ridiculously easy so absolutely anyone can play through it an win by doing nothing more than pointing and clicking.

Where exactly is the challenge? Where is the fun? Where is the satifaction of managing to complete a challanging and rewarding gameplay experience when all you have is point and click to win?

I enjoyed the demo soo much. I really like the new faster combat, and I really like the cutscenes thus far. :)

The walking animations are alittle clunky when I have the max resolution, but it's still not bad. Thanks so much for this little piece of the game. Can't wait for march 8th!

To all you haters out there, you don't have to like the game but you could at least keep it civil. The makers of DA2 put tons of effort into it to make it something that most fans would enjoy, and probably spent 70+ hours a week on this game, which they all seem pretty proud of (I would know my fiance is a game programmer and spent 60+ hours a week while working at a major EA company in CA) on TOP of that they provide us with TONS of extra stuff, including interviews, play thrus, character info, AND still find time to frequently post on this forum. It's not even completely for marketing purposes...most of us were planning on buying this game whether we got all this bonus info or not, It's not to solely convince us to play. You don't have to like the game, but cursing and saying it's crap and filling up this thread with constant criticism nit picking at everything without being constructive at all is ridiculous and immature. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it.

I was going to post something like this. But then I saw yours. ^_^

I second this. This is a feedback forum. Tell Bioware what you did or didn't like about the demo. "Awful" Doesn't really help. If it doesn't look like the game for you, don't play and go look for something else. If it does... then join me in giving Bioware a big kiss and dance around like a super happy idiot! :D

I was called un-adult like for saying something similar in another thread... unbelievable really.

Edit: In any case, I agree.

Well, I got the loads during the varric cutscenes, but nothing major during regular gameplay. Dialogue cutscenes seemed a bit jerky in comparison to normal gameplay (which, while not butter smooth, was running tolerably), but I'm on a Mac Mini here, so I should probably just be grateful that the thing's running for me in the first place. Looking forward to seeing how it runs in my native OS. :)

Oh, and Isabella can't be a very good smuggler. I spotted the two bald midgets she had hidden in her blouse immediately.

"rather than have mutliple threads pop up that you can pick and choose from to have smaller circles of discussion that are edible, lets post here where NO ONE will reply to what you have said or read it because by the time you hit post, everyone will be on the next page..."

what a waste, i have created and seen other create some great thoughts that started because of the demo, but werent solely to speak about the demo, those kind of conversations will suffer because of all the general herding into one large obnoxious post... i'm disappointed that on such a day we can only communicate to one another in one huge and untenable thread...

Dunno about you but i don't call developing a great RPG then making the sequel into a ****ty action RPG with an interface that simply doesn't work for how the game plays an improvement...

'Action,'  Rpg?

Anyway, then I guess Origins is a Action RPG.

I finished it on the PC and it was great although I had 1 issue with the audio, don't know if it's just me or not.

The dialogue was very quiet, despite being maxed out.  I had to turn off the BGM just to be able to hear it.  This included all conversations regardless who was having them.  The only two spots where the dialogue was "normal" (or at least at the same levels as everything else) was during the cutscene when Varric was narrating how Hawke and the family got from Ferelden to Kirkwall (between leaving Flemeth and meeting Isabela) and then again at the end with the trailer.

Other than that, great job.  Thanks.
