Love it so far but make the text bigger, my television is small and I can't see a damn thing.

The choice of race is significant and should not be downplayed because
how each race is treated/viewed by 3rd parties in the game is very
different which would cause greatly diferentiated playthroughs. However,
this is treading old ground.

And race was most likely cut ecatly because of that, Kirkwall's history as a slave center and Templar dominion mean that if an Elf or Dwarf became the highly public figure of the champion it would break continuity in many ways. Simply for the fact that the post would simply not be offered to a second class citizen like an elf and there were no Dwarfs living anywhere near Lothering to become refugees

Pretty much everything the old-school gamers feared would be lost from DAO. Combat feels like every other button-mashing console 'action game;' out there.

Didn't like the way they forced party members on you and forced you to do their quests. Looks like companions are mandatory now. No choices to make - the only meaningful choice is auto-decided by your class.

It simply doesn't feel like an RPG. Like many feared, it's an 'action' game aimed squarely at the konsole kidz who wanted more fighting and less choices/role-playing. But 'lowest denominator' sells, so it will probably break all kinds of sales records.

I shall decide to buy it or not when the romances are confirmed - I certainly wouldn't want it on this evidence. There are dozens of Devil-May-Cry games out there already.

Impressions:

~ So much prettier than DA:O! When the opening scene started with my Marian Hawke rogue and Bethany, I just sat there admiring. The colors for Hawke's armor/clothing were so much more vibrant than the original game's blah browns, and her face is pretty enough I might just go with the default instead of mucking around making my own when the time comes. We'll see!

~ I'm so glad Anon Zur did the soundtrack again! From the first strains of music, I was put back into the DA mindset. :)

~ I see lots of complaints about text size. Just thought I'd add that I had no problems whatsoever, but I also have an HD TV. Personally, I see this as just the inevitable direction of changing technology. We upgraded our television three years ago, when whatever FPS my husband was playing at the time was dark enough, it made seeing things on the SD TV difficult enough to affect game play. It was clear to us that games were headed in an HD direction (along with movies and everything else). I get that not everyone has the ability to run out and upgrade their TV, but I don't see being made to look best on HD as a strictly DA2 fault. It's also true of CoD and most other games being produced. In fact, when talking of text size, the text on Fable 3 was tiny, and must have really been a problem for those with SD televisions! I'm not sure if this an easy fix, or what it means to try and make a game look great on both SD and HD TVs. HD shows don't look right on SD, so I imagine it would be very similar for games...ultimately, I'm really happy with how DA2 looks on my TV.

~ Combat - I played a rogue, and WOW! I LOVE the evade and backstab abilities, and how they work now. Suddenly, a rogue is so much more than just a warrior who can also open locks and detect traps. I am so excited to see what else they can do in the regular game!

~ Dialogue - pretty identical to ME2, and that's fine for me. I LOVE the fact that Hawke has a voice, and so far, it seems much more intuitive/interactive than DA:O, which could be kind of cumbersome at times.

Overall, I see DA2 as a much improved version over DA:O, and isn't that what a sequel should be? Great job, guys. Can't wait for the full game in two weeks!

I hope It's only for demo purpose. I don't want to watch movie and hack and slash only. I don't want to be forced to become someone else like Shepard. I hope full version isn't anything like you wrote. :(

I get the feeling that people who hated this went in expecting to hate it, since most of the complaints, ( besides text size) seem like just more of the same thing we have been hearing for the past few months.

ZOMG! Rogue is absolutely awesome! I certainly had my misgivings about the lack of dual-wielding warrior builds...but WOW! So fast and so...er, furious, I suppose!

Also, I LOVE Female Hawk's voice!

Seriously, I am so happy right now! Waiting till March 8 is going to be absolute torture though!

-No Choice. When you first encounter Varic, the scene jumps are both disorienting and allow for no choice whatsoever as to whether you want anything to do with this guy. No dialogue options are presented... I mean, Varic and Isabella are just IMPOSED on you rather than you deciding to allow them to join you. The game suddenly decides FOR YOU that "you" (ie: Hawke) are going to backup a lady you met only hours earlier in a bar brawl in an alley fight the same night???

You just decide to bring along to this alley fight a dude you met only hours earlier whom you do not know and owes you no loyalty? This series of events make NO SENSE and does not even try to explain itself. It's a situation where the devs have decided, we've created these characters and think they are important or cool so YOU WILL PLAY WITH THEM! Role Playing be damned!

1. This is the demo.  You see the opening, then you are jumped far ahead where you help Isabella.  The actual game you won't help Isabella in the first 15min.

2. What do you expect them to do, allow you to type what you say and their voice over will miraculously read it without sounding like a computer voice reading text, then the game will magically know what responses are next?  Final Fantasy XIII doesn't allow you to pick and choose any dialouge... is it not a Roleplaying Game then?

Well, it's good to know that I don't have to pick up Isabella in my
party if I don't have to. As per your dialogue question I simply feel
that a voiced protagonist and "paraphrased" speech option does not allow
me enough input in to what is said (or enough room for opinion on what
the emotional significance of those words are) than when these variables
are pre-determined by the actor who voiced them. ie: having a pre-set
set of 4 dialogue options which are full sentences and LITERALLY what my
character says is preferable to having a 3 word "generalization" of
what I intend for my character to say and then sitting by and passively
watching the results (with said predetermined tone, inflection,
significance, etc).

This is a barier to me experiencing the game as me. ie: me experiencing/playing the role.

Umm... guys, don't worry, party members aren't forced on you (at least some of them aren't - Izzy has been confirmed to be an optional party member, though, as is Fenris). I believe that we saw the real Isabela quest when Mike Laidlaw played for the live stream, and it's different to the demo. I also believe that they skipped a whole lotta stuff that happens between the Flemeth meeting and Hawke's meeting with Isabela for the demo.

It's a demo. It's meant to be an introduction to the game, mostly combat from what it seems, not a show of "THIS IS THE ENTIRE GAME. ALL OF IT. ALL. OF. IT."

But from what the demo does show, the combat is amazing. And duel-wielding rogues just got 200% cooler. As did the mages. ... And the warriors.

Really? You believe they skipped? I thought it was painfully obvious since they you know had a fast forward thing going and mentioned it in the forums...

Played on 360, I am very impressed with how all the classes are done, I enjoyed playing the Mage most of all, and I hated mages in origins, Varric is going to be a permanent party member, maybe carver as well

Hearing you explain your views a bit more, I can understand where you're coming from, and I sympathize. People have different tastes, and so I can understand your aversion to the ME2 style conversations. But we did know it was coming; its not as if this is a surprise that was suddenly revealed in the demo. I still have to disagree with your narrow definition of what a role-playing game is, because I feel like Bioware has been consistent to the genre. The question is, do you love the Dragon Age lore enough to stick with the franchise? If not, I feel sorry, because I think you'll be missing out on some great stuff :)

Wait. But couldn't it be that some people will end up playing this demo who do not live on the forums? Perhaps they have other things going on in their lives? You can think it's "painfully obvious" all you like in your sad little world, to the rest of us, it just seems unpolished. Especially considering it's a demo trying to sell people on the game (people who presumably may not have visited the forums to see this "painfully obvious" information).

Lol I'm just responding to the people in this thread freaking out. And I haven't played the demo yet cuz I'm at work - I'm only going by what I've seen of the giZm youtube footage, which wasn't even the real demo - hence my use of "I believe". ;)

I am pleased with it overall. Hawke looks great but you can see almost a change in graphics between him and teammates. I've only played as the rogue so far and it is awesome. Very fluid and great moves to use. My only question is that I don't know if I got the dlc at the end. Does it specifically say, "Congratulations, you got DLC!" or just need to wait?

Well just finishied the demo on the xbox, downloading it now on the pc to compare :)

Maybe I just suck but I lost my Hawke at the Ogre figth, still managed to complete it with just two members.

The last Isabella figth tho I managed with out much problem (probably luck)..

It became really clear to me after the demo that I need to change my plans of having a two hander warrior tank.....I needed Avalines shield in thoose figths...I really did.

For me so far DAO II really feels like a better game then DAO I in more or less all aspects and I can't wait to get to play the full game
