First impressions,
Graphics: Passable, but definitely not on par with TW2.
Gameplay: Fun, but simplified.
Story: Lovin it.
Voice acting: Very good.
Yep,that's about how I see Dragon age 2 on normal difficulty. On nightmare however,it's going to be really hard with all the aoe knockdown that could cripple your own party.Nightmare is where you will need a decent amount of tactical play.
Graphics aren't bad,but of course you have the Witcher 2 which is quite possibly the best looking fantasy rpg.Despite the initial setpiece which is ugly as sin,the world already feel less generic thanks to the darkspawn/dwarf redesign and the unique character model of your party members.
Melee combat is really fun this time around, which is a plus since I'm going warrior or rogue for my first playthrough.

I played, watched the cutscene with Varric and Pentaghast, and the voice sounds was REALLY quiet! Why is this happening to me?! I checked the audio, and that was all fine. I put subtitles on, but just couldn;t watch it without the voices being there. And it's only conversation voices. Combat speech and sound effects are fine. It's just the voices that sounds like they're trapped behind an echoic door.
So I stopped playing any further before I rip my ears off, or until someone comes up with a solution.
You know you can adjust the volume levels for different audio areas like voices, combat sounds and music?
When I dropped combat sounds down two notches and music one notch, the sounds were quite nicely in balance. Occasionally I could've wanted a bit louder music, but's that's my feeling.
Okay, fixed it! 'Force Stereo Sound' worked in the audio options. I'm not using headphones, but whatever, it fixed it so I'm pleased

I only have one bad thing to say. I dunno if its just me or not but at the beginning during the cut scene between Varric and the templar, the screen was shaking. Just me maybe?
Other than that i love it. Was dissapointed when it ended though.

- Much preferred Origins graphics.
- Don't like the new UI and loot screen, it feels outdated, much preferred the ones in Origins.
- It kept freezing and loading on conversations.
- Every woman (except your own toon) has extremely large breasts, and in 'fools rush in' as a female rogue you ended up looking so very butch.
- It felt like an action game (though I think/hope this is just because of the length of the demo).
Pros;
- I liked the direction you went on the combat, though I think for me it's a bit too far in that direction.
- I liked the voice actor for the fem-Hawke.
- I liked the characters that you got to see.
- The conversations were well scripted.
- I actually liked the new talent web, didn't think I would.
Overall, because of how much I loved Origins and how much I have been looking forward to playing DA2, this demo has been somewhat of a let down, I felt like I was playing a 'run of the mill' action game in comparison, hoping the full game will be much better!

Yea, thats why that game still has such a large dedicated fan base today, is regarded as the best RPG ever made, and was the best game bioware ever made.
The tainted iron idea was fine. All you had to do was use magical weapons instead which were easilly available.
Also trying to even imply that Baldurs Gate was in any way worse than DA2 just shows how completely clueless you are about RPgs, its no wonder why you would like DA2 so much.
What? No. No, it isn't and I am in no way alone. There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment and the first two Fallout games that most would rank higher above the first Baldur's Gate. Then, I'd throw in Morrowind and Deus Ex (FPS RPG, but whatever it's a moot point). For what it's worth, I regard (edit) KOTOR as Bioware's best so far.
It's an old game for people who refuse to move on into the present. I used to be like that, and shyed away from anything that wasn't Forgotten Realms. But then I pulled my head out of my arse and realised that a grainy isometric view with a laboured interface isn't the bes thing since sliced bread, especially in 2011.
You Sir/Ma'am/In Between are full of hurr and durr and dare I say it some herpaderpaderp.
Planescape: Torment isn't a sequel to anything!!
Also, if moving on is so important, I bet in 5 years time you'll look back at DA2 and regard it as a piece of crap, whether or not you enjoy it now.
Games don't become 'obsolete' in the same way that technology does. Pong is still very much playable now as it was in the 1970s. As long as a game is playable on modern hardware or through emulation, it can be played and enjoyed. Baldur's Gate is perfectly playable now.
Exactly. 5 years from now, all the fans here are going to completely forget about DA2. They wont remember it as a great game, they will abandon it quickly and move onto the next easy peasy point and click to win game.
Baldur's Gate remains a game that is still loved by its fans over a decade since its release, it was that great and it is Bioware's finest production ever. Why have bioware gone from making a game as great as Baldur's Gate to a mind numbingly boring, simple and easy game like this one? This game just doesnt compare to what Bioware have created before.

The things that stood out for me were some running anims problems, but that's because they've implemented some sort of 'body balancing' system, which I happen to think that it's commendable (I don't see that very often, and my god, Fallout needed one, I still remember Simms in the Megaton demo - off-topic, sorry), plus it's patchable; friendly AoE targeting... sucked, but that's patchable as well (I hope); slight performance issues, and everything considered on my end, it shouldn't happen (then again, I've learned my lesson with ATi) - definitely patchable; and finally, of course, the friggin blurry textures... but I got used to those in ME2, and these may be patchable as well.
In conclusion: "Liked it, but there were a few things I had issues with."
All I can hope for is that they've either been fixed for the final or they'll be patched in the future.
*Oh, and it 's friggin short... I want the game - I NEED the game! *salivates* *drools* *wipes*

The only problem I have with the demo is with the first part of it (especially in the "exagerrated" part). I will quote what I posted in another thread:
"I'm having a little problem with the demo on PC, but I don't get if it's an issue coming from my system or not but it doesn't happen (not it ever happend) with any other game. So I ask if someone have the same to pinpoint the problem.
Every once in a while the game stops and it shows "loading...", ranging from 2 to 5 seconds. It happens mostly on the "exagerated" portion of the game. For example the game goes then I kill the Ogre with Winter Blast and this "loading..." comes. It's really bugging, especially if it happens every minute or so for the most disparate motive.
Now I have a RAID 0 system and the disk isn't active so I cannot get what the issue could be. I even tried logging out (thinking that the servers were a bit overloaded and the upload of infos slowed down the game) but it doesn't change anything. I tried everything (I disabled EVERY background app, changed all setting to bare minimum, disabled SLI, removed writeback cache on the RAID etc.) but nothing seems to work.
So, does this happen to anybody else? If a dev can have a suggestion I would be grateful.
My system:
I7 920
6 GB of RAM DD3
Nvidia GTX 295
RAID 0 (32 bit scrape size) with 2 Maxtor 500 GB"
In the Isabela part it doesn't happen, either minimally. I'm beginning to think is something having to do with how the demo is packaged or assembled, that creates some issues with some systems (if the problem is not so widespread). I believe the full game will not have this issue, in fact.
Apart this, I loved the demo.
EDIT: Found out this happens ONLY with DirectX 9 renderer. DirectX 11 renders resolves the issue altogheter. Probably in my system with Win7 using DX9 it causes problems with loading times on the first part of the demo.

If they release a tool set you can mod fem-Hawkes breasts to a bigger size, don't worry.

I was growing up playing Black Isle games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate saga, which hooked me up on RPGs.
I was an adult when these games came out already being a pen and paper roleplayer for years. Don't get hung up about what defines an RPG as this is a discussion which everyone has their own opinion about. Simplification does not always get in the way. Looking back in life at past experiences also doesn't work as you always look back with rose coloured glasses. Take things for what they are and with an open mind.
Still haven't managed to get the demo (failed at 1.8GB first time) but looking forward to trying it. What I am tending to see here though is:
1) Some people seem to forget that this is a demo.It is not the full game which explains some of the cutting and decisions forced upon you.
2) Some people are simply typing the fact that they dislike the game. If you don't like it explain why and be constructive. Some people already have and I am sure the developers are as, if not more, interested in these comments than simple adoration. If you're blowing steam, take time out before posting. Only with constructive comments can bioware judge what people like and dislike about their games.

The Tactics screen -at least for me- is a hell of a bugfest, but I'm certain it got fixed in the retail build of the game.
The combat is a bit too much 'cool' for my taste, but as the teamwork will probably shine in the full version, I'm happy to live with that.
Now for the RPG part: I am convinced by the talent trees, I like how the dialogues were written. I miss the mute hero.
As long as the storytelling will have the sturcture of a web rather than a tube I'll be happy.

'Action,' Rpg?
Anyway, then I guess Origins is a Action RPG.
Always nice to reply to someone who as it turns out is thicker than 2 short planks... because unless i'm playing a different demo to you all, DA:O and DA2 have absolutely nothing in common in the way combat goes and the 3rd person view simply doesn't work at all. Go back to your Xbox.

One of my favourite thing about this game (that I realized after playing the demo) is that ... Hawke changes his attitude depending on the speaking tones that I have chosen previously. This is just AWESOME!
Most comments are about combat and graphic ...
I thought the one of the strongest points of Bioware's game is Character and their interactions .. ?

Reading through the thread to get a feel of the demo before I get to play it since I'm still waiting on it (PS3 for me). But God, I see your comment on almost every page, and it's not like I don't respect your opinion but you're a bit over your head. All you do is insult others for enjoying DA2, saying it's dumbed down and people who like it are simple minded and basically don't know how to enjoy a good and complex game like Baldur's Gate.
WELL GET OVER IT! People like different kinds of games, not everyone wants to play a super complex game. Some people do like complex games and good for them, and you know what DA2 ISN'T THAT...OKAY? Not everyone is going to have the TIME or the EFFORT to play a super complex RPG. But that doens't mean they don't enjoy a good story and they don't enjoy being immersed into a great universe with an interesting narrative, and THAT in my opinion is what RPG is all about. THAT is the essence of RPG, not a complex skill tree with 50 skills that are completely useless, NOT a battle system that is "complex" but actually just tedious and poorly designed.
Bioware is expanding it's audience by changing their battle system so that it's faster and more viseral, THEY ARE NOT SELLING OUT. They want people to play their game, they want people to enjoy the story of DA2. Bioware isn't a company tha'ts here to make RPGs for you only, they're here to make games THEY WANT TO make and games that PEOPLE WANT TO play.
So stop telling the people who enjoyed the demo that all they want is an easy/simple/dumbed down game as if you're superior in any way, shape or form. Great you like complex RPGs, you are so smart and complex. The most intelligent forum lurker ever.
To everyone else, sorry that I took the discussion off tangent. I'm new here and I don't post much nor do I like getting into forum arguements, but this just really urked me.
The problem is, that there are already more then enough Studios, which make such "easygoing" """RPG"""" 's.
Bioware was and is the only bastion for deep story, character and battle-wise games.
So, yes; there should be easier games for people who dont like to Micro, Farm and invest time and energy into a progressive game.
Well, then play all the other games! Why should a "spiritual successor" of BG be watered down too?
Where are now the good games for us players, who care about tactical battles, many customizations, different gaming approaches and sidestories?
It is really ironic, that the only good "real" "RPG" that keeps old strengths AND combines different Genres seems to be Deus Ex 3.
And Witcher 2 seems at least like a more classic RPG approach.
I don't know what to tell you Anchev. That post I originally posted was just because Bhav was being too much, it's alright to talk about what you don't like but starting to condescend people who enjoy the changes is just too insulting. I haven't played the demo myself and I can't really argue about what's right or what's wrong about it.
All I can tell you is the "streamlining" that most people complain about in DA2 is over-exaggerated. It is still much more complex than your other "casual RPGs" like Mass Effect 2. From what I understand from all the comments that people said, the tactical side of things are still here. You do have the option to do all the tactics, and given how unbalanced the skills were in DA:O, here they've taken them out and made it much simplier hopefully this is an act of weeding out useless skills. So in a way, HOW MUCH did your spiritual successor sacrifice? I really don't know, gotta ask yourself if it really is THAT much.
For the record, I do play the "other games" but for example, I wouldn't belittle a Call of Duty fan for regenerative health just because I'm a hardcore Counter Strike elitist.

Here's a list of the bugs I've stumbled upon:
-Characters sometimes will not use healing poultices when prompted to. It might be a bug or perhaps there is an invisible cooldown, either fix it or display the cooldown.
-Wesley will display dialogue with subtitles when clicked upon outside of dialogue gameplay but no audio will play.
-Audio volume seems inconsistent between segments of the demo
-The tactics screens seems very buggy at the moment: after clicking on a few icons the game will no longer properly register where the mouse cursor is, and seemingly assign conditions and actions at random. The only way I've found to fix this is to go out and back into the tactics screen after assigning either a condition or an action, making it extremely laborious to properly configure Hawke's party.
-Aveline's passive skill in the one-handed warrior branch will automatically be assigned conditions on when to activate and desactivate in the tactics screen, however as a passive skill it is supposed to be active at all times.
-Before levelling up Carver, no use skill action can be assigned even though he has mighty blow.
Cheers !

The Warrior and rogue gameplay got you right into the action, and being the go-to melee guy felt good this time around, since we weren't shuffling around the battlefield trying to get into a position to actually do damage. The abilities were fairly well picked for the level 1 defaults for them, being able to dodge and smack some people with my sword felt really fun to do as a rogue and warrior respectively. And as I played through the prologue, it had a decent amount of progression, having me think my way through some of the fights and pause to issue orders, giving it a nice mix of the traditional rpg flavoring and the action rpg feel at the same time. Of course, we also can't forget how awesome the rogue is, being (basically) a ninja that can pop around the battlefield stabbing people's brains out while still being balanced with the other classes. The warrior was basically a tank (both in the figurative and literal sense), being able to chop people into tiny bits or be someone to hold the attention of the enemies while the rest of the party dishs out damage (Aveline does a wonderful job of this, being able to survive very well during both of the boss fights in the demo).
The Mage of course, is a different story, being the one to attack at a distance, but has some problems. The mage's healing abilities were taking too long for them to be mostly useful at some points, with the cooldown taking sometimes too long during fights to be able to keep all my party members alive (Carver is an example, dying left and right during the prologue, though that may be due to being a low level). The Elemental tree was fun to use though, being able to both do aoe damage and freeze up enemies, but at some times I felt like I was doing less damage with my abilities than the rest of my non-mage party at some points during fights. The mage was still fun to use, the arcane blast being a good tool at some points to give the party a quick breather, and was a good ability to have during the demo.
The demo did well in showing the game, but during the Ogre boss as all the classes, I sometimes found my party members (minus Aveline usually) were dying quickly, though that may be because I did not use the healing ability due to its long cooldown. Of course, either way, you guys did a nice job from what time I had playing the demo, I can't wait to get my hands on the game for release so I can review it.
