For an Xbox 360 user, where do I look for the free weapon? I checked on the hard-drive but couldn't find it under the 'games' section of my profile

I had no idea about this weapon until a couple of posts before your post. It's in the same place as the person said for those with the 360, on the side bar to the left go to your profile and select "Your Registered Games Promotions" and it will be there.

I just looked to see if it was there for myself and it's there.

Hmmm, for some reason it is not showing up for me... Looks like I had best complete the demo again.

If you are doing it on the 360, make sure your gamertag is associated with your account here.

edit: and make sure you are logged into XBL when you play the demo.

it's official :) I just bought the pre-order, lol.. PS3 from amazon.. I would've splurged for the Signature Edition but it was a bit much for me right now.. although I am *EXTREMELY* annoyed that those who have pre-ordered DA2 before were upgraded to the sig edition for free

oh well

ce la vie

:D WHOO! can't wait. CAN'T WAIT!

Well for you, only recommendation would be go play shooters. Really, look at Modern Warfare or Crysis. You do not have to think, you can not get lost in an open world, you have a story and a character. Exactly what you want from a game.

Whoever thinks shooters require no thinking have obviously never played on hard. One must be insanely arrogant to think thier preference of video game genre somehow infers superiority.

I fail to see how people can believe the combat in DA2 is dumbed down, when the only changes I've noticed are auto-attack off, and better looking animations. Niether of which constitute being dumbed down. Auto attack is the exact opposite of dumbed down. For the combat to have been dumbed down, Things either needed to be added or removed, in order to make the combat easier and less thoughtfull.

As for the "flashiness" i really don't know how people can attribute that to "dumbing down" DA. Did people complain LotR was dumbed down because it had awesome, epic battles?

I'm rather sick of hearing people complain saying it is not a true RPG because of the combat and game play. I see this mostly coming from PC gamers, but if we are going to complain about stuff like that then as a tabletop D&D player I've never played a true RPG video game period.

That is weird but I thought of something else. I thought about how they pulled the after credits save of ME to import into ME2. Maybe it's an afterward thing when you finish the demo. When I did it because it was 2 am when I started playing I was turning off lights and letting it run while I was waiting for a PM reply on XBL from someone as I spoke about the demo with. Maybe Bioware once again put that after the fact save thing that forced people to sit through 10 minutes of credits in ME1.

So replay the demo and then let it just do it's thing after you finish.

It wouldn't be the first time Bioware pulled that stunt.

Finally gave the demo a fair chance and as presented it falls short of my ideal. That is disappointing because my aspirational wishes are for a game in the vein of "a Song of Fire and Ice" or similar.

The demo seems intrinsically flat. Perhaps that is by design because the revised combat aims to be the focal point. Still, I couldn't quite shake the impression that at any moment I might hear some out-of-sync voice dubbing like in those Japanese Godzilla movies--Hawke is too stilted and wooden (maybe he grows on you?)

Granted, little of the plot or character development can be critiqued from this demo, but for whatever reason I was left with a cartoonish impression.  Honestly, Rockstar did an admirable job (with a non-rpg) in developing John Marston’s character and its depiction of the West. Is it unrealistic to expect that same attention to detail here--especially in light of RPG’s being the best vehicle for character and plot development. Hopefully, the final game will surprise in a good way.

This had just occured to me. The second time I played the demo, which is also the only time I was connected to xbox live, I did not let the credits play all the way through. Guess I'll know in about an hour if that is what caused it.

Yea I seem to have the items as well. Maybe they are giving the items to everyone who logs into a EA account and plays the demo, and giving it to everyone if they reach the 1 million mark.

New to the series and the action-adventure type rather than the strategy or RPG guy, perhaps my feedback isn't the most important, but though the combat definitely was a huge leap forward for me from DA:O, the lack of a 'normal' fixed cursor 3rd person perspective for the pc and the automatic combat (just clicking an enemy to fight) just made the combat feel a bit too MMORPG-ish for me. There just isn't a good mix of action-adventure, real-time combat and fantasy for the pc yet, had hoped DA2 would change that. It's a step in the right direction, but I'll have to wait for DA 3, I fear. By no means a bad game, just not the game for me... yet. Hope to see more in the future, Bioware!

(On a side note, the blood and breasts were perhaps a bit exaggerated, but perhaps that's just video games nowadays. These youngsters... :P)

Count me as another DAO fan that is unhappy with DA2 (at least as manifested in the demo).

The hyper-fast combat, ritualized 'finishing' moves, and new art style come across as cartoonish. The loss of 'personalizing' features (human race only!, voiced main character, the crude dialog wheel, inability to manage armor of NPCs) significantly detract from my ability to immerse myself in my character(s). Suffice to say, no one is going to be describing THIS one as 'the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate'.

And they discarded the overhead view! So much for 'thinking like a general'...

For me, the worst fears of the traditional RPG fan base have been realized... DA is now an uneasy Frankenstein of true RPG play and the child-like combat games based on anime.

That being said, I acknowledge that Bioware has every right to chase whatever gamer demographic they find most profitable. They've lost me, however.

Well, as someone who played pen and paper RPGs for years, I'll put my in 2 Euro-cents. Again.
Of course it's impossible to completely emulate a P&P roleplaying experience on the computer. That should be obvious. But I'm looking for an experience that comes reasonably close to that kind of thing - and Origins was a lot closer to it than DA2 is going to be, because DA2 has a voiced PC and the dialogue wheel that makes it impossible to roleplay my character, because I can't really control her reactions. The system in Origins is direct, what you see is what you get. The system in DA2 pushed me to the back-seat, it's like watching someone else playing. It lacks the visceral feeling.

@ sleepyowlet I understand where you are coming from I do. And I'm not saying you're not aloud to have complaints about DA2. For the most part I'm just tired of hearing the complaints saying its not a true RPG and that console people are the reason for it. A true RPG is about the story and I won't be able to judge that until the full game is out. Currently atm though it has the features I like such as fulls customizing my character at level ups with skills and attribute points which a lot of rpg games don't do as much. I also understand the issue with the dialogue wheel I do, but I will take the fewer responses over having the screen come back to my emotionless character just staring at the other person. With the whole DA:O I could give my own meaning behind what I said, I did the same but I'm sure there were times you would choose one option and it would seem that the npc you were talking to took it a whole other way. As far as dialogue goes there is very rarely a time while playing DA:O where I was like yes perfect that is the exact thing I wanted to say in this situation. It was always just me reading the options and being like yea this one is pretty close.

As for character customization with picking race, yea I'm a little sad they took that away but I understand why they did.

I may have missed the asnwer to this, but has anyone been able to find out if the fact that you must choose between archer or dual for rogue, and between 2-hander or S&S for worrior, simply reflect the lockout of the inventory, or an actual change to having to exclusively choose one setup for the character, that you're always stuck with.

Played the demo on my 360 and absolutely LOVE it.

Combat is SO much more fun and enjoyable now. The moves all feel different, love the action packed combat, love the Mass Effect dialogue wheel, voice acting is great, and really, really like the fact that you guys put the statistics next to the character attributes, so that when you're leveling up something, it shows exactly what's going on.

I also love the skills trees, very smooth and much easier to follow than the looong lists of Origins.

Well in the demo, I could unlock skills in both two-hander and Shield, so I guess it is the same for a Rogue.

It is only like that in the demo since they took away the inventory. Not to sound like a ****** but it did say that in the demo when you clicked on the corpse, atleast in the 360 version.

played the demo 4 times now on xbox..
thanks bioware, it seems to be great. I liked all the changes from DA:O..
The story is bound to be your usual epic.. unlike several here I understand that this is not a follow up to origins but a separate story from the age of dragons. I hope that you continue and make several more.. I mean why else would you invent a whole new world with a myriad of different countries and races, surely there would be heroes with epic tales from every realm.. keep up the good work... roll on the 11th...

I believe it's only limited to the demo. The relevant skills remain open when you level up, regarless of your choice.
EDIT: too slow.

Thank you.

(I didn't notice anything that would have answered that question about it in the PC demo when I was clicking on the corpse...)

Seriously the only thing that stabbed me in the heart was how it ended when that piece of eye candy invited my female hawke back to her room for some lesbian loving and it ending :crying: .

To end it on such a mouth watering invitation is just tooo cruel for words :(.
