I was growing up playing Black Isle games like Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate saga, which hooked me up on RPGs.

According to Biowares new and current fanbase, those games are all crap and no one likes them.

DA2 is what they want, simple, brainless, unbelievably easy, point, click, win.

RIP Bioware indeed.

'Action,'  Rpg?

Anyway, then I guess Origins is a Action RPG.

Always nice to reply to someone who as it turns out is thicker than 2 short planks... because unless i'm playing a different demo to you all, DA:O and DA2 have absolutely nothing in common in the way combat goes and the 3rd person view simply doesn't work at all. Go back to your Xbox.

I'm playing on YOUR PC.

EDIT: PS3 By the way.

Just finished a runthrough with a mage on PC.

Overall i like the changes done. Love the new combat animations, though a bit over the top sometimes (roundhouse-kicking bottles or shooting them with a bow, instead of just throwing them seems kinda silly), but overall a vast improvement compared to Origins. FemHawkes running animations looks a bit weird, the way she tries to wiggle her butt/hipps while running looks a little unnatural.

Controls are fine, though if u try to set ur targeted area for ur AoE abilities and ur cursor is directly on an enemy, the game seems to not acknowledge ur command until u target just the ground beneath ur target. Also there should be a "Disable Mouse Movement" option, with the new more restricted view, i became more used to the WASD controls and with the fast movement speed of the angry albinos missed clicks are rather common without permanent pausing.

Since loot is a big part of my RPG experience, it was a shame the inventory was locked and couldnt be used, though it probably kept the demo at a reasonable size.

Personally i didnt mind the sterile environment. All the burnt, red soil improved the whole "in enemy territory"-feeling. Generally the graphics serve their purpose more than being a stand-alone feature, which i am perfectly fine with. Love the rogue and warrior armor design so far, hope u ve got some different mage robes in the game than u have showed us in the demo.I also like what u did with the staves and the stave combat.

Cant say much about the class-balance, since too many skill-trees were locked, but mages seem to be the glass-canons they allways were and the classes feel truly distinct this time around. It sucks a bit, that u cant pick the 1st skill for ur Hawke, especially since mind-blast feels rather underwhelming.

My 2 cents so far, i may add something, while i m playing the different classes with different weapon-sets.

Thx for the demo Bioware

Well, I gave it a shot and while I liked the updated mages and rogues, I just cannot bring myself to enjoy the Mass Effect style Dialogue. Hawke frequently said things I didn't want him to say, despite the icons. She won't be alone: "At least she'll keep dad company, because y'know...he's dead. Haha."

Loving archery! They said they improved it and it really is nice; very powerful, versatile....archery and bomb specialist looks like a very good option,possibly....anyone liking archery as well?

Yes, individual hits felt very powerful. Seemingly innocuous special attacks (pinning shot) were doing a ton of damage. Utlimately I'll probably go with dual wield if only because 2 NPCs I'm looking forward to are already archers.

It was a yes and no for me. I like the combat, the new effects and stuff and the real time ness of it all, but generally i was underwhelmed. It feels like they took all the choice from the dialouge with the conversation wheel, most of the paraphrases dont even translate at all to what Hawke says, and what little choice i have when choosing dialouge have a clear cut good or bad decision, or a stupid sarcastic one.

And the walking animation? Moreso for males, who leans forward that much when walking? Really? Females isnt bad, just the male one.

pc version
no performance or graphical issues of any kind
it was a nice preview of the combat and a tiny bit of conversation, but sadly lacking in other areas. still fun though, but it does feel like they're putting too much emphasis on the combat and not enough on the story, characters, exploration, etc. I'm hoping this is just the demo though and the full game will have all the things we loved about Origins (well, except for the Origins themselves which I can accept but hope they reuse in a later title) and maybe with more puzzles (the Gauntlet bridge, moving tiles for Shale and the fire maze in Awakening were fun but too easy. and yes I know, it's not an adventure or puzzle game but it's still nice to have some and they could be optional so those who prefer to can just hack and slash their way)
anyway before I ramble too much I'll just say that it was fun and leaves me wanting more, but still not completely sure just what the full game will offer

Demo has put almost all my fears to rest; the only one remaining fear is that the game time will only be around ~30 hours as opposed to the ~50-70 I expect.

Edit: I too died several times during the ogre fight because I didn't bother looting anything since inventory was locked and had no potions. Had to restart the whole demo.

I just finished it and I thought it was very good! I liked the new combat animations for my female mage, which, as opposed to DA:O's kind of "staff pew pew" animation, were very dynamic and very cool to watch.

At first the new interface scared me, but it was very easy (imo) getting into it 8)

And everything else about the demo was great, too, I only have two things which kind of bothered me:

Flemeth looked a far bit different from the DA:O Flemeth. In Origins, she looked more... like a homeless person, and now she looks kind of more like a fabulous dominatrix.

Neither are bad at all, it's just bit of a contrast.

And also, I kept thinking Isabelas piercing was a mole :S I mean, if I looked at it I could see it was a piercing, but my brain kept wanting it to be a mole. (Although I suppose that means my brain is the one with an issue, and not the game. hehe)

Anyway, overall, great demo, looking forward to the games release 8)

Real quick feedback about the 360 demo:

Found it much more entertaining gameplay-wise than DA:O. The main reason I played through the first Dragon Age was because I found the story and characters interesting, but the gameplay was incredibly stale for me after a certain point (maybe like level 12 or so, if I remember right). On the other hand, in this game, I feel like I'm kicking some ass. I expect that the story and characters will be engrossing in the full game; I don't really have a way to tell that from the demo, but I will say I really enjoyed the story of the opening sequence. The only thing that bugged me was that I didn't have a good sense of where the whole thing was taking place. It just didn't look like any place I'd ever seen, etc; maybe if I could see their escape route on a map or something somehow it'd be alleviated.

I really liked the second boss fight with Isabella; loved the waves of guys forcing me to pay attention to the whole area. I do wish that Izzy had a lifebar and could be knocked out, though; I just let her tank it while everyone else took out the minions. It'd be different if she were more a member of the party, but c'est la vie, I guess that's just how the game works. Every game has exploitable moments, and I guess that's one of them.

I noticed a weird blurring in some cutscenes and wondered if that had to do with the fact that this is a demo. Was there some kind of compression messing with how things looked or something? It wasn't terrible, but it could be a bit distracting.

The main thing I can say is thank goodness for the combat overhaul. Seriously. I know people loved the first DA played, and I'm not trying to knock them or the first game, but I felt like I was just a spectator. Now I feel more of a connection with my Hawke, which is just a lot more enjoyable for me.

I did find some of the tone icons to be really abstract, as others have said. WTF is that diamond supposed to mean? On the other hand, some were totally intuitive, like the striking gavel and the fist, the olive branch, the comedy mask, and of course, the question mark. I'm hoping there'll be some kind of list in the manual, though, just because I want to make sure I know what they're supposed to be telling me.

I also really loved the personality shaping system. Tough Hawke is WAY more intense than Nice Hawke.

Nice job, ladies and gents. I'm excited to pick it up and explore the life and times of Garret (in my game, Quint) Hawke.

You can change weapons once, at the beginning of the non-exagerated part : loot the first refugee corpse you see and it will open a dialog box.

Why didn´t enemies also get the combat changes? They look stupid acting at Origins speed. Good for them that normal hits are now barely scratches.

Anyone knows the credit song and who sings it?

Wow, the mage is ridiculously fun to play, so much better than the first game. Is it possible to make your mage a specialist in melee?

I would play a mage, but i really want bethany to live. I still don't know whether to play as a mage or warrior yet

I know not everyone has these issues, but i have a fairly good PC, it deemed me worthy of playing this game on high.

It took me 3 tries to get into the game, with crashing, once I got in, each time I chose a dialogue option, it would have to load for a few seconds, and after killing the ogre, it went into loading and froze.

I'ts obviously not entirely the games fault, as others arent having this issue, but I really hope that it either subsides soon, or doesn't exist in retail. It is entirely unplayable right now. I'll edit this later if the problem subsides.

EDIT: well, i got farther than I did before, but it crashed after "character customization" so I'll try again after my class tonight, maybe I'll turn the graphics to low or something.

Yea, thats why that game still has such a large dedicated fan base today, is regarded as the best RPG ever made, and was the best game bioware ever made.

The tainted iron idea was fine. All you had to do was use magical weapons instead which were easilly available.

Also trying to even imply that Baldurs Gate was in any way worse than DA2 just shows how completely clueless you are about RPgs, its no wonder why you would like DA2 so much.

What? No. No, it isn't and I am in no way alone. There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment and the first two Fallout games that most would rank higher above the first Baldur's Gate. Then, I'd throw in Morrowind and Deus Ex (FPS RPG, but whatever it's a moot point). For what it's worth, I regard (edit) KOTOR as Bioware's best so far.

It's an old game for people who refuse to move on into the present. I used to be like that, and shyed away from anything that wasn't Forgotten Realms. But then I pulled my head out of my arse and realised that a grainy isometric view with a laboured interface isn't the bes thing since sliced bread, especially in 2011.

You Sir/Ma'am/In Between are full of hurr and durr and dare I say it some herpaderpaderp.

Planescape: Torment isn't a sequel to anything!!

Also, if moving on is so important, I bet in 5 years time you'll look back at DA2 and regard it as a piece of crap, whether or not you enjoy it now.

Games don't become 'obsolete' in the same way that technology does. Pong is still very much playable now as it was in the 1970s. As long as a game is playable on modern hardware or through emulation, it can be played and enjoyed. Baldur's Gate is perfectly playable now.

Learn to grammar k thx. In "There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment and", the comma is indicative of a list.

"There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment, and" is a a pause in the sentence to reference a detail. I'm not a spoon, I know my Bioware back catalogue.

My argument isn't that it's NOT playable, but that I think it suffers in presentation and some rather restricitive rule sets in comparison to some of the modern RPGs.

Huh. This was a suprise, playing as a Warrior was... boring.

Rogue rocked and so did Mage but Warrior... not so much. I had desided to play my first round as a Warrior but now I'm wonder if maybe I should take Mage instead.

Love the demo, enjoy the faster paced combat, though also happy to see the strategy elements remain.

Did anybody else accidentally skip the cutscene with Flemeth because they activated the ability they had hotkeyed to X? Or am I really the only one dumb enough to do that.
