I was quite surprised to find out how powerful the rogue felt when you played it, even as an archer. I knew it would be faster and more distinct in its style, but damn, they're really fun to play as this time around. The warrior felt solid, and all round better at its job then in Origins.

And then the mage... love at first spell. It would have been fun to try out the Primal and Spirit schools, as I, like Anders, do enjoy shooting lightning at fools, but that leaves some more left for March I suppose.

I don't see the issue with the VA that some do though, as they where both good and while they did speak the same lines, they did so in slightly different ways, which to me was a nice little surprise. Only thing negative thing I can think of right now - in my post demo buzz - is that there seems to be a small load after Cassandra interrupts Varric, after Flemeth's last line, that causes a bit of a hang up before the camera moves to him. And I think Flemeth may have sounded like she was cut of after one of the diplomatic responses, by her self no less. It's like she didn't quite have time for finish the last word, before she started her next line. (Xbox 360 version btw)

Great demo though, and I look forward to try the game on Nightmare :)

Ok, at the start of, and during cutscenes the game kept pausing for a sec or 2 and then loading, i assume its a bug and have posted in the tech forum about that anyway.

Also the sound seemed to be quite faint.

Win7 64bit
4GB DDR3 ram
Intel i5 760

Ignoring the Tutorial/Exaggerated part i really enjoyed the demo.

The combat is much more fluid, responsive and just plain fun. Much better than the slow shuffle and hitting mobs who have run past you already that was DAO. It is basically DAO combat refined.
Its still tactical too so the actionrpg fears are unfounded.

I do miss being able to equip 2 weapon sets, but so far in the demo it hasnt really been needed yet.

I barely used the top down camera view in DAO, so the lack of it didnt bother me, but i do like that you can still move the camera around a lot and shouldnt impact those who liked the top down view too much.

Really like the ability trees layout and the fact you can upgrade abilities.

Love the voiced main character, feels much more invlolved and alive than our mute warden

Voice acting was good, music great, i'm a fan of the mass effect dialogue wheel and you have improved it with the intention images in the middle so thumbs up

I approve of the new graphics style, its an improvement over DAO, though in all honesty i do prefer ME2 graphics

Oh loved the Ogre boss fight too and hope for many more similar fights where you need to use your brain and move from its charge and ground slam attacks.  Engage Brain = Awesome.

Demo has put almost all my fears to rest; the only one remaining fear is that the game time will only be around ~30 hours as opposed to the ~50-70 I expect.

Edit: I too died several times during the ogre fight because I didn't bother looting anything since inventory was locked and had no potions. Had to restart the whole demo.

I have the same fear, even watching all the cut-scenes ths demo was well short of the 45 minutes stated, also the file size is very worrysome, 1.9 gig for the demo and 7 gig for the full game!?, somethings up with that.

P.S, potions on PC are at the bottom right of the screen, you just click on them to use, but sometimes they are not highlighted.

I really dont get how people of the original fanbase can stand how dumbed down these RPGs are getting today. Its not just a case of the games changing, its a case of removing everything that is good and challenging about the gameplay, and simply making it ridiculously easy so absolutely anyone can play through it an win by doing nothing more than pointing and clicking.

Where exactly is the challenge? Where is the fun? Where is the satifaction of managing to complete a challanging and rewarding gameplay experience when all you have is point and click to win?

I've played games for close to thirty years now I guess, and I liked the demo. The gameplay itself was essentially unchanged from DA:O, and as I said in my earlier post, I chose to pause and issue commands. It didn't seem any different from DA:O on a functional level. Now you can feel free to accuse me of liking "dumbed down gameplay" since that seems to be one of your favorite expressions.

Considering how much you loathe the demo and the direction of DA2, why don't you take your attitude, and your supposed intellectual superiority, and go do some research in quantum physics? How's that for challenging? Come back here when you win a Nobel Prize for doing something equally as amazing as creating the first Bose-Einstein condensate like Cornell and Wiedman did, okay? Then you can lord your superior taste and intellect over all your intellectual inferiors who have the gall to like and appreciate something different.

Limited dialogue annoys me. But still excited for the game, was upset when it ended.

I dunno about the limited dialogue. I think there's the postive, neutral and negative reactions, and the 'explore further' option that was in DA:O, but set out in the circle...which makes it a bit easier to achieve as result you want. Take that simplification as you will.

Just finished the xbox demo. Having played DA:O on PC

>Was very surprised to find the control scheme wasn't complete ****.

>There was some slight hitching in some scenes

>The combat feels good. A more refined version of DA:O. Honestly, despite the flashy animations (which I don't really care for) it makes DA:O combat look like ****.

>If the entire game is as well tuned as the demo I'll be really happy.

And with that said MOST of the features were locked off (inventory? the ****?) so it's hard to tell the depth of some systems

I'm reserving judgment on the performance until I see the final game. D/Ling PC demo now hopefully it runs better.

All in all, I really enjoyed it. I would say you sold me but I already paid for it a couple weeks ago.

My feedback:

Fights were not really super easy, but neither hard. I didn't die but used pause option alot, Mainly to save time while looking around who's my next target and who is trying to kill my healer. Fights in general are more fun and faster unless you slow them by yourself. I still found kite quite useful if you need a heal and your healer has it on cooldown. It is a bit funny tactic to run in circles dragging enemies behind you but oh well. I see it like distracting them, which is actually is. Only thing I don't exactly understand why we don't get more skills from start. I mean it's only a few fights from Lothering to Kirkwall but still no need to leave us with auto-attack but oh well.

People complained about graphics. It may be that if you take a screenshot and start nitpicking you find something that you don't like, but while the game runs you are are doing stuff the graphics seem very good, if not brilliant. No comparison to DA:O. The character models and armor are also quite an upgrade even in close ups in dialogues etc.

Cut scenes seemed a bit fast paced though. I know it is a demo, but I felt like someone grapped me and dragged me along. I usually prefer to roam on my own and especially in my own time. The lack of empathy when Hawke's brother/sister dies is also something that I found a bit disturbing, so I chose mostly badass dialogue choices to make it look as if Hawke is just trying to keep together. Also I noticed that in opposite to my fear mixing different dialogue options still doesn't look stupid. I think I spread peaceful, hard and sarcastic in about even numbers.

Finally overall atmosphere delivered by story and music is awesome. I couldn't say I felt that excited when I started to play DA;O even though I was pretty excited about that as well. And I really can't wait to play the actual game (which I am going to preorder now), and to explore everything and everyone in Kirkwall. Most fears I had for this game seem to have been unwarranted. And even if it is probably not a perfect game in every respect, this game does not have to shy the comparison to DA:O or ME2. Well at least from what I could see from playing the Demo.

Thanks for taking the time read if you did, have fun people.Posted Image

Awkward and uninteresting dialogue.
Boring art.
Combat unrealistic and way too fast.
Bosses are easy as ****, you can avoid everything now, even auto attacks.
UI is balls .
Running animation, as others have said.

Pretty much everything I expected and less. Good going.

Ahhh yea... Planescape Torment, best RPG ever... ah well, it was Black Isle back then. Good, old times.

But now to the game at hand... It's nice, so far.

- Combat is nice and fast, even though too easy (blast - run around until your spells recharge - blast - rinse repeat) at least it was in the demo.

- Characters seem intresting enough.

- I am not completly sure about Shep... I mean Hawk.^^ But we will see about that.

- Same goes for story, no opinion yet.

- Sound and graphics are ok, better then Origins (like the abstract artstyle).

Not regretting preordering the SE.

I really liked it. I was skeptic about some things, but the demo showed me that most of my doubts were misplaced. I am looking forward to the auto-attack option in the full game, but I still had a lot of fun. I loved the new way the mage and the rogue work. Especially archery. I honestly can't understand why so many people are hating everything.

I.... I had fun playing it.

In love with melee rogue, Evade+Backstab combo OP, Mage pretty much stay the same as they are in DA:O, warriors with new moves, still kind of boring to play.

Varric got style, I will give him that, the way he introduce himself, sleek.

Flemeth not so nutty compare to DA:O, react very well to sarcastic Hawke.

Graphic is weird and disappointing, unstable fram rates sucks.

Overall, can't wait till 3/8. XD

Yea, thats why that game still has such a large dedicated fan base today, is regarded as the best RPG ever made, and was the best game bioware ever made.

The tainted iron idea was fine. All you had to do was use magical weapons instead which were easilly available.

Also trying to even imply that Baldurs Gate was in any way worse than DA2 just shows how completely clueless you are about RPgs, its no wonder why you would like DA2 so much.

What? No. No, it isn't and I am in no way alone. There is at least it's sequel, Planescape: Torment and the first two Fallout games that most would rank higher above the first Baldur's Gate. Then, I'd throw in Morrowind and Deus Ex (FPS RPG, but whatever it's a moot point). For what it's worth, I regard (edit) KOTOR as Bioware's best so far.

It's an old game for people who refuse to move on into the present. I used to be like that, and shyed away from anything that wasn't Forgotten Realms. But then I pulled my head out of my arse and realised that a grainy isometric view with a laboured interface isn't the bes thing since sliced bread, especially in 2011.

You Sir/Ma'am/In Between are full of hurr and durr and dare I say it some herpaderpaderp.

Planescape: Torment isn't a sequel to anything!!

Also, if moving on is so important, I bet in 5 years time you'll look back at DA2 and regard it as a piece of crap, whether or not you enjoy it now.

Games don't become 'obsolete' in the same way that technology does. Pong is still very much playable now as it was in the 1970s. As long as a game is playable on modern hardware or through emulation, it can be played and enjoyed. Baldur's Gate is perfectly playable now.

Exactly. 5 years from now, all the fans here are going to completely forget about DA2. They wont remember it as a great game, they will abandon it quickly and move onto the next easy peasy point and click to win game.

Baldur's Gate remains a game that is still loved by its fans over a decade since its release, it was that great and it is Bioware's finest production ever. Why have bioware gone from making a game as great as Baldur's Gate to a mind numbingly boring, simple and easy game like this one? This game just doesnt compare to what Bioware have created before.

If you want to talk about other games (The Witcher, Baldur's gate, etc) start a thread elsewhere so you can reminisce/discuss in peace and not clutter this thread.

Although I've posted my thoughts way back, way, way back somewhere in that mess behind this post...

What I'm really impressed with is the texture quality and scaling.

In ME2, DA:O and numerous other games on the market..once you start hitting 2560x1600 - the textures look so goddam awful it makes me cry..in this though...they're gorgeous and crisp.

Kudos BioWare.

I feel like I'm playing a game of DA:O on steroids. It's awesome. I love it.

Can't wait to get into the meat of dialogue and decisions in the full game.

The difficulty level is lower than normal on DA:O. Now I don't think that's a bad thing. I only played normal and I usually had to be careful but on DA2's normal settings, I was going a lot smoother thru the game.

Female Rogue on PC

1) Miss the passive backstabs but game looked easy enough on normal difficulty, will see if "tanking" with a rogue will work on Nightmare as well as it did in DA:O or even if it will work at all

2) Not too fond of the new flashy ninja moves but nothing against them either

3) Attacks speed is ok however enemies take a while to go down, it's boring to drop 3-4 succesive waves in this manner, hope the game will give us more variation

4) Heavily miss the old school feel of the "book" menu for quests, inventory and character, this is a step in the wrong direction as far as I'm concerned

5) Absolutely hate the new restricted overview camera ... why, Bioware, why?!

For the rest the demo played good, DX11 maxed graphics looked nice (not best but fine) and the new abilities seem to be enticing. A little worried about the "Loading..." text before each in-game cutscene, play was very fluid so I'm inclined to think it wasn't my PC to blame for that. Excellent that now we actually get to see more about how adding points affects abilities, hope this translates to items too and we'll get more than "increase blood magic" or "chance to dodge attacks" etc. . Overall it looks good for version 1.00, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for less bugs than DA:O had at launch and can't wait to play it.

Was a little bummed to see that if you toggle walking on the main character your companions will still do the whole run-stop-run-stop thing like they did in DA:O.

Demo was pretty much how I expected DA2 to play.. Can't say I'm as excited for it as I was the original, but I guess time will tell how good it turns out to be.

I like the improvement in graphics but sadly your art team is still not very good at actually making decent faces...while many DAO mods have shown it can be done better even with the old engine.

Other than that it seems promising but I do worry about much content the real game will actually have.

Verdict : Positive, looks very promising, not too long and not too short.
