XBOX 360 demo

Overall I loved it :)

My only real gripe was healing on the mage. Rather than a healer it felt more like I was an extra potion that could be used during the fight. The cooldown on heal was huge and I was only ever able to use it once on a fight. There is also a cooldown on potions which is OK, probably intended to add a bit of difficulty.

I am currently playing a healer/controller in DA:O and loving it, it just felt like there was little point in speccing heal in DA2 because of the huge cooldown and if having an npc mage set up to heal in tactics you're going to want to set it at health < 10% if you don't want that heal wasting too soon.

I'm sure everyone who enjoyed the demo and are looking forward to DA2will miss the pained weeping and cries of "Baldur's Gate 4ever!"  However will we get along without the angst?

I absolutely hate the look of the combat. Warriors swing the sword without there being any proper contact or mass, rogues perform teleports and epic leaps on level 2 and mage jumps around like a retard when making basic attacks.

I'm with you on that. I did enjoy the "feel" of the combat, but damn if it didn't look goofy as hell.

I don't know if I was the only one but when Flemeth mentioned the Grey Wardens and how not all were dead, I was all happy, like hell yeah there's another Fereldan female kicking ass back there.....I love it how the ladies in DA are sexy and deadly!

I have just finished playing the PC demo. I tested all three classes and really enjoyed the mage and rogue. The mage was a much more fluid class to play, which is an excellent improvement on the mage from DA: O. Spells now flow much more seamlessly into one another with much less downtime. The rogue is quick and agile and has been given its own identity, as oppose to sharing some of its abilities with the warrior class, which is a tremendous improvement. I have to say on release day it’s going to be a tough choice on what to play first.

The warrior did feel like it would be fun later on but at the basic abilities felt a bit slow and clunky. The abilities available later on, such as whirlwind and scythe improved the class. I feel the class will improve as more abilities are acquired.

Graphics and music are brilliant (looking forward to the soundtrack) and I couldn’t believe the degree of detail on the different locations. I also loved the way the game flowed through the cut scenes with ease. The story still remains a little bit of a mystery which is good because I wouldn’t want the demo to answer to many questions. The characters look interesting and I can’t wait to learn more about them and the story. I am also looking forward to seeing more characters of old.

I did like the addition of the voiced main character and I think having this upgrade makes the cut scenes more interactive. However I did find some lines of voice acting that was rushed, however I believe this was the demo moving along. Overall however the voice acting was very well done.

The talent tree system looks like a good upgrade however it would be interesting to see how people use their talent tree in their own way. I also wonder if ability modifications made by the community will integrate well into the new system. It was the high amount of community content which added to the fun factor of the first DA.

Overall I am really pleased with the demo and I can’t wait until March. Bring it on!

Note: the sound during the dialogue was low and then loud during one of the cut scenes, which nearly blasted me out of the room. I think it is just a small bug in the audio.

Loved my first playthrough as a mage.. graphics, dialogue, cinematics, and most of all, combat seems to have gone up some notches since DA:O.

Seemed quite challenging to me, died two times at the Ogre alone.. can't wait to try the PS3 version and the full game. Once they come along.

The demo basically confirmed every fear I had about this game:

- Bad writing.

- Bad voice acting.

- Trash mobs.

- Combat is both mind-numbingly boring and completely spastic at the same time.

- Art direction is a mess. I don't care about technical graphical quality, but art direction is very important.

- Limited dialogue choices that don't actually affect the outcome of the game.

So, to everyone saying "wait and see" (including the developers), am I allowed to think I won't like this game yet?

(And no, I'm not saying "worst game ever" - if anything, the demo is so aggressively mediocre it defies me to even care enough to dislike it.)

We'll find a way.

It seems every game now the forums go through a purge of sorts.  THere's a lot of old faces from the lead-up to ME2 that have long since disapeared.  Ditto with DA:O.  And the same with DA2.

I played through the demo four times. I really like it much more than I expected to, to be honest. In fact I only have three complaints, 1 major and 2 minor.

The major complaint is that tactics are really messed up. Moves fire off at really weird times and the vicinity detection when it comes to "surrounded by enemies" and "being attacked by" seems, well... I'm not sure it exists. Also the "clustered" tactical command doesn't work well. Cooldowns are also much longer for health/lyrium, etc., so it would be great to have an indicator of some kind.

The minor ones:

1. Two-handed weapons, especially the axe, are incredibly exaggerated. The scene with the lady guard having the axe slung over her back is absolutely horrible. An ogre would have to grunt picking that thing up. That one really irks me.

2. The feminine run animation is tough to watch. This one is very minor. The walk is actually very nice. The run... ouch... not sure how that made the cut.

But, the fact that it is MUCH easier to list what I did not like than all the things I did is very satisfying. The new combat looks and feels great if you can work out the tactics problems. The design and animation, apart from the Hurlock and the gimpy female run, is outstanding. The spell effects, aside from the heroic aura are top notch. I look forward to playing this in full on the 8th/9th. Keep up the good work and please fix those tactics up.

Overall, I loved the demo. Combat is a hundred times better than origins, and the graphics look fantastic.

My only beef is with the loading sign showing up in cutscenes.

Just finished the PC demo a while ago. Enjoyed it greatly. Much preferred the gameplay in this one to the first game (unlike some, I have no personal preferences for any one type of game over another), and I was actually impressed by how the dialogue can vary even when you're not directly choosing what you say (and the actual choices were fairly entertaining, too). Difficulty was just about right (though the second ogre battle can be a real killer), and the game still looked pretty good on medium settings on a somewhat-aged computer and ran without a hint of slowness. Shift between the prologue and the next mission was a bit jarring, but I'll attribute that to their not being directly connected. Overall, came away with a good impression.

Dragon Age 2 PC demo

- Combat felt like boring hack'n'slash diablo style.  Completely different to the first game

- Graphics are far worse than the original and take up more rendering power.  The landscapes look bland, ugly, angular, like something ripped out of a game from 10 years ago. Completely lacking detail and style like the first one did.

- Dragon Age was a spiritual successor to Baldur's gate.   Dragon Age 2 is a spiritual successor to Diablo and Double Dragon beat-em-up games.

- Sound is repetitive, loud and obnoxious with no means of turning it down without sacrificing ambient sound.

- Why did we go with the Mass Effect "dialogue"? You know, the fake one that never says what you choose?

- The UI is ugly, consolised and gaudy. Nothing like the first game.

- The game has lost it's gritty feel and now looks like you are playing in a poorly drawn comic book

This game is NOT a sequel to Dragon Age, it's a hack'n'slash console game that has nothing to do with Dragon Age or spiritually succeeding Baldur's Gate.     I wouldn't buy this game even if bargain bins were giving it away for free.

Most disappointing game sequel in the history of PC gaming.  Thanks for saving me money on the pre-order.

Non-EA Bioware. R.I.P.

I got the demo through the xbox 360, and most of what I have to say about the game, is nothing but good.

I loved that I actually had to continuously attack my target; made me feel like I was part of the action instead of lazily sitting back and just auto attacking. This is one of the things I hated about DA:O and thought you guys did a good job in my opinion upgrading to this system better.

For me the music and the sound fit in quite well for the most part. It was great. However, when I went to talk to the people around me, I found that I could not hear any sound from the Templar. Not a big issue, but it was there. Would like to hear something from him other than just seeing his lips move. Other than that, I feel it was very well done. In DA:O I had a few issues with sound as I would see a combat motion and then hear the sound 3 seconds later. This worked quit fluently.

The characters I absolutely loved. I feel that I will have a great time playing this game. I played the demo both as Female Hawk and Male Hawk, and Im no closer deciding what to play when the game actually comes out.

Overall, I loved this demo. Great job on Biowares part. Kudos.

It wasn't unplayable on PC, but it was awful nonetheless.

DAO didn't let you zoom out far enough to see things shooting you from off screen.  Now, they've removed the tactical view so you can see about 10-15 feet around you.  Yes, you can adjust the camera but you can't pan up and down so good luck targetting anything from a distance.  It's really bad implementation for a PC game.

Also, there is no toolset.  How do you release a game like this with no toolset?  You have one obviously, it's how you made the game.  Unfortunately, PC users unlucky enough to purchase this rubbish will be stuck with a console game on a PC and no way to modify it to make it tolerable.

Awful game.  Thanks for the demo.  You saved me $50.

360 version: WHY is the font so extremely small? Don't tell me to get a HDTV, simply increasing the definition won't make anything larger. Please tell me that this is not what the final version looks like or i will have to cancel my preorder.

Very disappointing. If the demo is what is to be expected of the game then this is not what DAO used to be and i will pass on buying it.

It struck me as a mindless action game with some RPG icing on it.

My biggest disappointment is that this was produced from a company that made BG and KOTOR.

Anyway, back to waiting on Witcher 2 and hoping it doesn't turn to mainstream mind-numbing-hack-and-slash like DAO2 did.

I've played through a couple of times now and it felt quite short but I suspect that's due to how much I was enjoying it.

I played first as a mage and then as an archer rogue. I was surprised how much easier I found it as a rogue than a mage. No idea if that was due to my play style, how I levelled up or what. I was going to do my first playthrough of the full game as a mage but no I'm not so sure.

Counting down to the 11th now.

I put 120 hours into Origins, absolutely loved it.

DA2 is several steps backwards from Origins...
