I personally liked the demo very much, and I don't regret pre ordering the game.
But I pretty much like any sub-genre of rpg anyway.

Who cares what I think? Nobody, obviously, and I'm sure you'll sell a ton of copies, just like you did with Mass Effect 2, but while I enjoyed that game because I had no real stake in Mass Effect, I can't help but feel a little betrayed. Naive? Certainly. Still, I'd hoped the demo would quiet my doubts and it's left me thinking I won't buy a game I'd had marked down as an automatic purchase. Whatever. There's always Skyrim.

If you aren't consistent in the way you're talking to someone, it really felt like your Hawke had 3 different personalities running around inside his head.
Yep. I noticed I was making Lady Hawke a bit inconsistent. I like that you can get different combination in the personality you're trying to role play, and that add re-playability value I think.

So I'll keep my preorder, even with the stunt EA pulled with the elite version - Bioware remember to slam EA's marketing people next time there's a social event at work

I dug it. I've played through it twice, once as a warrior and once as rogue. I can't wait to get my grubby mits on it.
My only question is will the Codexes (Codi?) work the same way as they did in the first one? I really enjoyed all the backstory and the depth of the game but the best part was when you picked up a codex you could hit select and it took you directly to the newest codex. I really hope the quick access feature stays.
Actually, I guess I have two questions; how many downloads are you up to? I want those two unlockables!

I can see, why people who liked the good old round based party rpgs, and Dragon Age for it's (partial) return to that system, are put off by DA2.

I agree. I was not expecting a direct sequel and the changes in the skill trees really improve the gameplay.
People just hate change.

The combat is fun and I can see it being much more tactical on higher difficulty settings and character levels, the combat animations in particular I found much better than Origins... no more running towards an enemy with that stick-up-your-arse shuffle. I had some stuttering animations when my PC ran though which got on my nerves.
Graphically, well, I was playing with DirectX 9, 1680 x 1050 resolution with 2x AA and I found it decent enough. Game graphics are at the bottom of the pile for me when judging a game however so others may not be as content with it as I was, but then those folks likely have better graphic cards than me. The blight lands was very, very brown... but then it's blighted aint it? Dialogue was solid, nice to see Flemeth Janeway back for the sequel.
I had one crash at the very end of the demo so I wasn't able to chat with Isabella but other than that it ran smooth and stable. My pre-order is staying, err, ordered.

Played the PC version of the demo for an hour as a male mage; as background, I played through the PC version of DA:O three times. Not that
impressed with the new direction of the franchise. I enjoyed DA:O and,
until reading about the planned changes for the game, was also looking forward
to DA 2. I recognize that this is only a demo, and obviously lacks some
features, but the game seems much too simple and much more of a click-fest (or
button-mash for the console-inclined) than DA:O. Although certain portions
of the game do look superior to DA:O , simple walking animations still look
stiff and the death animations -- which I thought would be quite the spectacle
given the attention being given to the new 'visceral' style of the game -- were
dull as the magic effect would cloud the enemy(ies) and the magic 'effect' would
then be replaced cloud of blood. From what I saw, nothing was on par to
when Alistair first executed a finishing move on the Ogre at the top of
Ostagar. Moreover, the camera is pretty annoying and the inability to zoom the
camera in probably my biggest complaint with the game.
Again, I don't want to kill the game because it's only a demo, but it did
seem like the spell system was simplified and the overall number of spells was
reduced. Leaving aside the substance of the new spell system, I strongly
dislike the new menu system for the spells; as with many other aspects of the
game, a greater than emphasis seems to have been placed on style rather than
substance or functionality. Also, the new mage attacks, although flashy,
eventually began to become as boring as the older animations.
Although, given the level of vitriol, I am chary to wade into the argument
as to the dumbing-down of the game, I will say that I profoundly
disappointed with Bioware's decision to fundamentally alter many aspects of the
game. Unlike others, I am not suggesting that there is only a single way
to play an RPG and I respect people who dislike BG II (or even
DA:O) and are finding the demo quite enjoyable. Although I can only speak
for myself, the problem is that I was expecting so much more not only
because the game is supposed to be a sequel to DA:O (a great game in its own
right) but because it's developed by Bioware. I still remember being 13
years old and saving up enough money to get BG II and later ToB and
sinking so many hours into those games. The amount of abilities, options and
spells was staggering; I think people get angry about the changes in DA 2
because they resent being forced to either play something radically different
from traditional RPGs or having to suffer the inferior graphics and other idiosyncrasies
(to put it politely) of older games like BG II or IWD. I'm left
wondering why can't Bioware simply develop a modern version of BG II?
Put differently, if DA 2 was being developed by someone other than Bioware,
I wouldn't have the same reaction. I would read about the game, play
the demo and, finding it not to be my cup of tea, move on and play something
else. Moreover, I think certain aspects of DA2 are entertaining; for
example, there is something to be said for having a game where the player can
utterly massacre the opposition (like the first scene from the demo) as, in
moderation, it is quite fun. The reason I, and I suspect many others,
am writing on the forum is that I was hoping for so much more because DA2 is a
Bioware game. This anticipation was only heightened when the game in question
was the sequel to the game that was perceived by many to be the spiritual
successor to one of the greatest games (and greatest RPG) of all time.
Perhaps I am just romanticizing the past and clinging to things that no
longer exist. That I would spend my limited time writing this demonstrates how
much this issue affects me and I suppose that venting about the
disappointment I am experiencing provides a sort of catharsis. I do
wonder, however, whether I should hold Bioware in the same standing as I was
profoundly disappointed with the changes in ME2 and, from my brief experience
with the demo, am disappointed by DA2.
I probably will purchase DA2 sometime in the future but will probably wait
until there is a sale or some other discount. I think, for the time being,
I'll be happier with a reinstall of BG II and the Darkest Day...
Regards,
(edited to fix some funky formatting)

Ok, at the start of, and during cutscenes the game kept pausing for a sec or 2 and then loading, i assume its a bug and have posted in the tech forum about that anyway.
Try to use DX11 render. It happens in some machines with DX9 (happened to me too) in first part of the demo.
I guess it only happens if you have a DX10/11 card and you use DX9, maybe only for Win Vista/7 (don't have XP to try).

Ooooh, the stench of entitlement just blew me over. Bioware has no duty to make sure their games cater to one subset group of RPG gamers (an annoying one at that) just because they seem to have some eternal hard on for BG.
Bioware wants to hear criticism man.

biggest thing that annoyed me was the ground was covered with graphic artifacting. (hope it isnt my 6 month old 470...) funnily enough the artifacting vanished whenever there was a cutscene in the same place, and yes I got the newest drivers.

Good: Combat animation, combat in general (at least on a PC/ Rogue class) and graphics worked well.
Bad: The massive ****** on Isabela (im a dude and even I dont want to see that. It feels like Bioware, a dev ive loved almost every game they've put out, have perceived that their target audience is no longer "high brow" hardcore RPG gamers but juvenile, acne encrusted boys sitting in their bedroom playing games with the door locked. Even the way the demo ended, the promise of sex felt like some marketing head thought that one up. Disappointing, and that makes me incredibly sad. Maybe im reading too much into it...I dunno, but it is what it is I guess. I didnt like the running animation, the pathing was messed up (as someone mentioned about the archers) and Im thinking that the reason the story suddenly became all disjointed and choppy was because it was a demo, yes? I mean...theres no way they would release the game with a rush through of plot like that....is there?

I'm still hoping this demo is based in a pre-beta version and the final version will be way better, because now i'm afraid of pre-order this one until some good reviews are out.
No Kudos for this one. (at least right now)

I think they skip the story part and randomly mix the story to make it confusing , right?
