i am sure this was mentioned before. and ive only played on xbox

i thought it was good overall, the only real big issue i had was the constant pushing of the attack button. this demo is on normal difficulty and it took me a while to kill the ogre. on nightmare i would have had to hit the attack button twice as much. i am not a huge dragon age fan vs mass effect so i liked the more combat/fast paced of this game. i do not know if the auto-attack was locked or if it was even included i can not remember, but i liked the demo other than that.

Oh, one thing I did not mention on the 360 version was a bit of a glitch. When you teach Aveline the Passive ability Perception, if you leave her in the default Defender Tactics set up, it treats Perception as a sustained ability, taking up two slots for an "activate" and "deactivate" action.

I'll bite and post in your effort to keep all the whining to one thread. I mean to collect feedback.

I'm going by the demo; if some of this is different at release please ignore those points and call off the rabid fanboys.

-I don't know what was wrong with the combat system in Origins (apart from the derp roads), but okay; the demo was a decent introduction to your new one.

-It wasn't a very good introduction to everything else though. Or at least I hope so.

-Origins combat areas were already very linear, but the areas I've seen here were awfully blatant about it.

-The interface is fine for a console game; it's awfully clunky for PCs, especially the tactics screen.

-This thing needs a proper top-down camera mode, if only for targetting AoE spells.

-After cutting down the talent trees into whatever those things are supposed to be, removing custom stat allocation on level up is the next logical step. Otherwise people may put all their points into willpower and complain the game is too hard.

-There was a bug in my demo version where the "very easy" difficulty was called "normal".

-Mages now being Shaolin monks is weird. +1 for pretty robes.

Just played the demo, and skim read the comments from the last few pages.

Combat - very different. Played as a mage and found targeting mobs that were far away (eg on a small hill) tricky as couldnt move the camera to get the targeting reticule spot on. Sometime Hawke would just stand there. Combat was much faster, and didn't need to pause it a lot - good, but also ... missed al ot of what I liked from DAO. I liked pausing combat, issuing orders (!). Laughed at one point when my party died combatting the ogre and I soloed the lot by running back and forward on the hill blasting the mobs. I'll await the full game for judgement :)

Bit buggy - had to download DX to get it to work. (d39x9_43.dll error on Windows 7). Meh.

Flemeth! oooh etc.

Plot - didn't make a heap of sense, jumping about all over the place. Hope it is clearer in the full game.

Graphics - huge improvement. Brighter, more colourful, like the new look of darkspawn.

Now to replay as rouge!

I Dislike the Choice wheel and finally understand why people have been refering to this game as "Dragon Effect 2" I think the original system was better. I understand as a company its easy to use what works or whats popular, but it feels like a watered down way out.

Importing the dialogue wheel from Mass Effect was an extremely welcome change in my opinion. Selecting from complete sentences was fine - and necessary - back in the days before full voice acting in RPGs, but I find it extremely annoying having to listen to my character repeat the exact text I've just read (not that the mute protagonist in DA:O was any better, (s)he stood out like a sore thumb among all the voice acted NPCs - BioWare definitely did the right thing borrowing from Mass Effect for DA2).

So is flanking still in? The sword & shield powers make reference to direction of attack but there's not enough feedback in combat to know if positioning is actually making a difference.

The demo was good, i only play as mage so far, and enjoyed very much, the animations, the effects and spells. The game even being on Medium looks great( did not like much of Cassandra and Isabela, their looks on some old SS appear to look better ).

The VA is amazing, the skill tree and the attributes looks good.

The only problem i had is with the loading just before the cutscenes, and some freezing, aside from that i'm looking forward to play the full game.

Just like to mention (as it's been brought up a few times)....

I alt-tabbed a few times, and did not have any issues, though 'most' of my alt-tabs were when the conversation wheel was up.....

Worst fears came true. Rare case where the continuation of game worse than the original throughout, including graphics. Very sorry.

Have to sit up close to the TV to read- feel like a little kid again, waiting for Mom to come in the room and tell me to back up or else I will go blind.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the demo.
Really like the faster combat, no more waddling around the battlefield like my Warrior has IBS.

i agree i have a 40 inch and have trouble with the text

No, the straight ones have been.   I don't much like what I've seen so far, but I'll get it when and if s/s is confirmed as a full option, not another ME2 tease.

After playing it again...

Liked:  The facial features. Every female is purdy. Even Aveline. And Flemeth.

Isabela looks like a good companion.  Varric makes a great entrance.  The default FemShep looks good.

Graphics generally good - liked the look of Kirkwall, just exotic enough.

The fact it doesn't seem about blights and wardens.  Looks like you're not forced to join the super--special warrior group (Jedi/Spectres/Wardens) this time.

Disliked:  Skeletor hurlocks.  Beyond ridiculous.

Ludicrous anime combat against hundreds of foes.  Apparently greatswords don't weigh anything anymore. It really didn't  need this. The whole 'Power Rangers' thing was offputting for me; DA seemed much more realistic.

Since when has the scenery around Lothering looked like something out of 'Conan the Barbarian'?

Conclusion: The whole thing reminded me of the Simpsons 'Poochie' episode.  It was trying too hard, trying to be 'cool' for the sake of it.  While I accept games need to evolve, I wish they hadn't homogenised the DA series.  It certainly didn't need to be  another button-mashing 'action' game.

Well, neither did DA:O, to be perfectly honest. That game's most effective tactic regardless of who you were facing the most generic tank draws aggro/DPS-dealer deals DPS/Mages support we've seen in every single game we've seen on a fantasy setting.

This game might not deviate much from formula (and honestly, the spastic animations make me feel lost during a fight) but at least it keeps the player awake through the game.

This is not dragon age its dragon effect.

Oh, if only it was. At least then a fight would actually look like a fight, not an episode of DragonBall Z set in Faerun.

Still, I'll wait for the final product before I judge this game in its entirety.

I'd add my vote to the comment that the heal cooldown appears to be incredibly long. It's almost impossible to use it more than once during combat.

I could also add that in the PC demo, unless there are no allies or magic effects surrounding him, it can be quite complicated to click on an enemy to attack him in real time, as the allies or special effects can get in the way a lot. Playing with a warrior forced me to pause when the character killed an enemy in order to be able to click on another enemy to attack.

I also faced the stutter in dialogue, and sometimes even long pauses in the middle of dialogue.

But the demo itself is pretty good, and I look forward to playing the full game.

Thoughts on the demo:

I love the quick pace. I don't think the battles had been dumbed down as much as I was afraid of. The UI changes (wheel, ability trees, etc) looks like good stuff.

I don't hate the voice acting in the demo but don't love it either. DA1 had some splendid actors and I guess that is what people will compare with, at least I will. Obviously the real game will have TONS more so shouldn't whine too much based on this demo.

Flemeth looked REALLY cool, and Isa I think was alright but all in all I am not all that fond of the graphics. Most characters looked rather sloppyish. I really hate it when head movement dont seem follow the rest of the body in a natural way. It shouldn't be happening with 3d games released 2011...

Anyway, had hoped for a little more from this demo but it was still a nice teaser. Thank you Bioware.

This demo was awful, in my honest opinion, an abomination.
While the combat was fluid, it was simplified. Even on hard difficulty, i only needed to click an enemy to attack and everything was done The combat, while fluid, is repetitive and simplified.
The combat animations made me feel embarassed over what i was playing.
I couldnt choose race. that is, in my opinion, the greatest robbery in game history.
The dialogue is Mass Effect. The main character is not a mute.
The characters felt shallow.

On a good side though, the "new" skill-trees looks like a fun thing.to explore in the full game, it takes me back to the days of Diablo 2.

To be honest, i feel that Dragon Age 2 will probably be Bioware´s worst game since Jade Empire.

You can't even play the game on hard difficulty as you claimed to do. It's locked to normal (supposedly).

Playing the PC version. I will admit to being a tad skeptical of DA2, but this demo put that to rest. Graphics were great, combat was awesome...I love it! Can't wait until the 8th.

overall i enjoyed the demo, i had been following GAF for awhile so my expectations were low but i enjoyed the PC demo overall, the 360 demo was fine but i just enjoy the gameplay more on KB/M

only thing that bugs me is why did carver or whatever his name is go all "you savages" and get crushed? almost as pointless a death as that one guy on Feros in Mass Effect 1

In a previous post I said that I liked most of the demo but had problems with the camera not zooming out enough and the loading times between cutscenes.
I have changed my mind. The camera is fine, it just wasn't tilting vertically before. It's working now. Yay!
And since a dev specifically posted that the loading times on cutscenes were not a problem in the final build of the game, I now have no major problems with DA2. I'm ready for it. Give it to me. Now! Thanks.

My only note is that it's very apparent a lot was left out of the demo that is in the finished game. The quick narratives about travel between locations and meeting characters...? I doubt they're in the finished game. I expect a lot more immersion, which I'm sure I'll be happy with on March 8. Half my time in DA:O was spent going through menus, tweaking my characters, and reading up on interesting information. Without those bits, the demo felt a little empty.

I think the demo was meant to show off combat more than anything. Without inventory or character creation or anything...there's not much left in the demo except combat and the occasional bit of dialogue.

I'm confident the full game will draw me in far more than the demo. The character will be my own. I'll get to customize everything. Besides; the whole time I played it, I was completely aware that it was just a demo.

I look forward to March 8th. :)

Oh, well, and I also managed to hit invisible walls during the fight with the Ogre when running into the wide area after the hill the fight takes place, but I imagine that's just because of the demo.

Just got done playing a mage on the PC and its amazing. I didnt like mage much in DA:O but i figured id try it in DA2 and all i can say is its SOOO much better. The skills recharge faster so your not constantly waiting to attack and the basic attack is nice. And then the unique ogre kill made me giggle like a little school girl, who doesnt want to rip apart an ogre with your magic? The game looks amazing too, was running on the DX11(even tho devs advised against it) on high and it just looks so nice.
