I was very disappointed with the demo (PC version). My expectations weren't all that high so this makes it even worse. Oh well, maybe the game gets better.

pros:

all the pros of what i like from dragon age before.

very cinetic fighting and fast paced. very good graphics

Bethany...cool fighting mage.

the classes seem fun to play...

cons:

stupid loading times every few minutes in cinematics. throws you off...for people who said the game has been optimized from the previous version that part is a step backwards to me...origins was way better for cinematics....

the selection card always pull you out of the game when you select a character, what is up with that? you have to be sure to click the border of the card otherwise you are screwed. exxxxxxtremely annoying!

shalow dialogue, i hope the dialogue choices are better than let us go foward and the darkspawn is attacking us lets go... mass effect one had better dialogue than this...

slow down when fighting hayder...man at the end that fight just crawled....

and another thing is that i wanted to seperate my group to attack the ogre form different vantage points but Bethany kept coming back to try to get closer to him which burns me...i guess it is part of tactics in the game but man it sucked big time as i wanted her to act as a sniper while hawke and aveline were tanking on the ogre...

also if your characters are in fact seperated too much form each other you cant select with the npc card and you cant select them in the game, you have to take another character get closer then chose the character you wanted to chose and you will be able to select him or her...

the original game was not like that.   on pause, one charcater could be far from another and i selected my card and the camera would bring me to that character whereever he or she was so i could use him or her after selection...that is not the case in this game...

annoying music towards end of fight...like the song was stuck on one note that sound just burned me..you know when freddy comes to kill you and he does not kill you right away and toys with you for several moment but the same few suspense music notes kept playing over and over..arrggggggggg geeez... make that stop, my ears they are bleeding.....

last point what is the scoop with the death of carver or bethany? whatever character you choose to have in go first bites the dust at the hands of the 2nd ogre fight ...i like bethany and her big boobs so i send in carver to die but that is just dumb.... is that gonna be the same in the game? pre scripted and you can re-arrange the story if you reload? that is not really non linear gaming to me...even though the game is not supposed ot be that way...

i dont understand how somebody could say the combat suxx? its to 90% the same as in DAO ?! just.. more speed and visuals

played on the pc.. btw

Too much speed, silly looking way too over the top combat animations and the camera is your worst enemy, forcibly remaining too zoomed-in with most of the action happening off-screen. It's not that hard to understand.

Hi everyone

The Dragon Age 2 demo is now available on Xbox Live (Gold accounts) and will be up today for PC and Playstation 3.

I am seeing lots of threads with "my demo feedback/impressions/thoughts, etc". Rather than have multiple threads pop up all over the place, this thread is for everyone to post their impressions.

Please say whether you are playing the PC, Xbox 360 or PS3 version and let us know your thoughts about the demo. Both positive and negative feedback is fine (as long as it is constructive. Saying "I didn't like X in the demo and this is why, is fine. Saying "it sucks" is not very helpful. You get the idea).

So please, let us know what you think of the Dragon Age 2 Demo. :)

i love this game. i only have one problem. the text is to small and the color makes it hard to read. i am playing on a 40 inch tv. i have the game for the 360. a option to change text size and color would be nice. other than that this game rocks.

I love this more than Origins! Bring on March 8th!

Played on PC.  The graphics look better on medium without access to everything than Origins does on high settings.  The controls are very responsive and still very tactically oriented.  I honestly don't miss the full bird in the sky view.  Had no problems targeting on a whim with Bethany.  The locked difficulty is a tad easy but I'll be playing on Nightmare anyways so not an issue now.

Voice acting is great.  I don't miss the silent Warden.  Dialogue choices are easy to pick for your style of play.

Hopefully the loading during cut scenes won't be present at release or minimized.

Overall I really enjoyed it.

Don't quite recall a pointless death on Feros. Are you sure you don't mean Jenkins on Eden Prime?

I really liked the demo. Combat, graphics, everything was pretty great. Didn't like the fact that inventory was locked, however.

Oh and Isabella's breasts are just ridiculous. I thought you were better than that Bioware.

The more I reflect on the demo, the more I feel I should cancel my pre-order. Combat games with duff cartoon graphics littered with huge bazonkas are 10-a-penny. I wanted an RPG that will surprise me, get me thinking, to puzzle over NPCs' intentions and what's driving them, planning out my strategy and tactics. This demo indicates a dumbing down, combat-style product from Bioware.

I loved DA:O and the community here and really wanted to love DA2. Now I'm just really sad.

I haven't played the demo, nor will I. I'm simply lurking this thread for impressions, and decided to share my opinion of many people's complaints, whether they prove to be well-founded or not. Again, I have not played the demo (I lack an internet connection - posting from work).

1.) The Dragon Age experience will suffer without the choice to play as another race. So much of DA:O's replay value stemmed from the way different characters were perceived by the world at large. Hawke may be a real, dynamic, even likable character - perhaps even preferable to DA:O's Warden - but he will not inspire repeated playthroughs.

2.) I'm pleased to see they've finally differentiated the rogue from the warrior. Indeed, if anything lends to the replay value of this game, it will be the myriad ways the player can experiment with its diversified combat system.

3.) Regarding choice, story, and emotional attatchment to characters - keep in mind that this is a demo, meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Bioware is using this demo as a vehicle for its new combat system and graphics engines, not as a means of story-telling. There could very well be quite a few decisions and key story points between Lothering and Kirkwall that were cut from the demo for expediency's sake. One can hope, anyways.

- Controls dumbed down for Consoles (ONE BUTAN!)

- Dialog dumbed down for Consoles (Green, Red, Blue - you decide!)

- UI dumbed down for Consoles (clean and neatly shaped blocks with shiny icons?)

- Game mechanics dumbed down for Consoles (Sure, come join my party, I have no say whatsoever anyway)

Not gonna bother with this. If I want to play a JRPG I will pick up a copy of Devil May Cry or Darksiders. At least they do not pretend to be a RPG.

Feedback (PC Version)

combat - The changes have been over hyped, its just a smoother version of Origins which is a releif. I like it

conversation system - Not good..... The obvious and limited good/neutral/bad choices from Mass effect are already tiresome.. no decisions to make as you'll just follow the obvious binary path. Bad move

Inverntory system - Havent seen enough to say

Story - So far pretty good. Like it

Sound - good solid sounds and decent mood music. Nice

Performance - SHOCKING. Absolutely terrible. I have a i7, GTX 480, 6GB dominator RAM and even on the options limited High setting its a slide show. Really hope theres gonna be some optimising happening

Bugs - Black trinagles everywhere over the floor at certain angles. Known bug? For some reason my view seemed to be limited to about 2 cm from my face... this must be a bug?! Seriously, get some zoom out happening in that camera!!!

Overall - Im glad the combat seems good, not so much the generic binary conversation system

EDIT: Seems graphic problems are because i had DX11 on... hoping thats what caused the slowdown problems. Also read this is fied in final game...! Hope so

graphics were really bad, but i expected that coming in. the inventory/level up screen absolutely has to be changed, its just a small little square in the middle of the screen at 1920.x1080

on top of that you can barely control the tactics windows since the vision of how many choices you see was so limited. that whole system was CLEARLY a straight console port job and must and should be changed

many options in the menus could not be canceled with the ESC button especially in the tactics screen, which is pretty awful

the ui was pretty meh as well as seen in the screenshots. i don't see why we can't have the same ui from da:o, as it stands, it looks and feels half hearted and incomplete

the combat felt okay, but the aoe indicators felt a bit weird to control.

What happened to the stylized UI? The look? The things that
really pulled you in?

Different strokes, I'm afraid, for this one =/ I feel the complete other way around. Instead of UIs being big and decorated like books which make my eyes lose a lot of attention looking at them, I prefer them being minimalistic and stylish. I find this UI to be beautiful and it's incredibly non-intrusive on my seeing the world, hence it doesn't hinder my immersion.

The combat felt great. Still being able to set up tactics, but now being able to move my character and position for attack. Nice! Then even just the normal attack to look cool, especially when mashed repeatedly. I like it.

Healing 'cool down' will take some getting used to and strategy but it won't break the game for me.

I do like the dialogue, I don't feel insulted or that's it's dumbed down in the slightest. There are enough options without requiring a half hour to read each one and even then you weren't sure how the NPC would take it. I can RP a character much easier, because sarcasm really is sarcasm.

Overall... very excited for the full story, everything that got skipped over, love the visuals, and will probably lose multiple days worth of sleep after March 8th.

PC...............

I just played the very very start to get just a taste of the new system....I Love it. I have 1 question. I heard reports earlier in the thread that they kept having to press A on the XBOX yet there seams to be an auto attack set on the PC version. Will we have the option to play with auto attack off and even better, can we play with the PS3 controller? If these have been answered, please just point me there, Thanks

Needless to say the fighting with the thief are completely unrealistic. Too fast, it's a real ninja who made lots of somersaults on the left to right.

We did not want cartoon animations, we wanted something realistic like dao, but a fight more active and more intense.

Demo feedback PC Windows XP DirectX 9c

Downloading the game was a nightmare, but that's all I'll say about that. Had to used the DirectX 10 program to run the game. Updated my 9c apparently.

Played female mage. Here goes.

Combat: Pretty much Origins style combat on speed w/ a touch of acid. Shield bash is a great improvement and being able to "get out of the way" is the best "upgrade" to the combat system.
I love how the mage is able to engage in melee combat and is best part of mage "upgrade" in DA2. Unfortunately, mage FX got nerfed and are not as spectacular, at least not in the demo. However, I did find that I was playing even more tactfully as a mage in Origins which is a great thing. All in all, the new combat system is better, but I still need to get used to the speed. The speed is a bit too fast for my taste.  Something that needed tweaking once again gets an overhaul.

Graphics: I was only able to set my graphics up to medium as I don't have Direct X 10. I hope the actual game will be different, but I have my doubts. Still the graphics looked very good w/ the exception of a couple of cut scenes. The faces were not as expressive in normal conversation and the mother and Bethany seem to have very blank expressions no matter what. However, Lady Hawke didn't disappoint in most of her "sarcastic" retorts. The facial animations matched the tone very well. I did experience some lag between combat and cutscenes, though this could be due to the fact that it is a demo. I'm still not sold on the new art direction. The characters generally look better, but there's just something "off" about them.

Story: I know it's a demo, but still there's there are a couple of important scenes. Bethany's death was lacking, fortunately LadyHawke's tone was appropriate, as in, it didn't matter, let's go. Also, Aveline's husband is not a very good templar as he only spots one apostate among the group of four people. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just (sorry to put it this way) laziness. I know it's not uncommon for lines to be recycled, but it bugged me. At least Flemeth was able to tell my character was a mage, but by that point there was only one. As for Flemeth, she adds a lot to an otherwise fairly dull beginning.

Bugs: None, though I was not able to put the graphics on high. The game did not crash, shutter or lag during combat at all. The only issues I had was lag between combat and cutscenes and could be due to the fact that it is a demo and not on a DVD.

Other Stuff: I love the skill tree. The portraits on the screen were a bit too small, while the health bars seemed a bit too big, though those complaints are nits at best. There is still a top down view on the PC, so thanks for that.

Summary: I've already have the game on preorder, but I have to say that the demo didn't 't make me want the game any more than I do now. It didn't make want to cancel my order either, though I never thought it would. It was fun and I will most likely play a rouge next just because, but all in all, I can wait patiently for March 8th. It doesn't need to get here any faster than it already will. Q4 2011 is a different story ... but a different game. ;)

After putting 200+ hours into DA:O and Awakenings, I came into this demo expecting to be disappointed. Too many changes for my taste. (360 user)

Combat: I was taken aback. I actually enjoyed it. And before anybody blindly labels me as simplistic or an idiot, I will point out the fact that I still prefer the combat from traditional Bioware games. And, though some will disagree, I find KOTOR to be the best RPG work of Bioware. Now I was surprised as to how much I liked it. It felt like what Jade Empire should have been: Fun. And don't get me wrong, Jade Empire is great and IMO has the best writing of any game ever. The combat was just abysmal. Didn't feel much easier than DA:O on normal, just faster. In fact, comparing this section to an origin, the game was harder. Also, to those who are saying it's far too easy...Are you that stupid as to not realize that there is more than one difficulty?

Dialogue: Sorry, but the wheel just isn't for DA. It worked for Mass Effect, but it just feels like they're trying to change too much in DA II. Sure, it isn't nearly as bad as I imagined, but that isn't really saying much. At least I'm familiar with it, but it still annoys me when what my character says is completely different from what I intended.

Graphics: Enemy style is horrible. Overall though I'm not noticing much improvement over DAO. I mean it's definitely better, but really now, Look at ME1, why can't we have that? Instead we're getting graphics on par with Oblivion. At least there's no nightmarishishly rendered pine trees unlike in DAO. *shudder*

Sound: Music feels the same as in DAO, no complaints. Voices seem to be the same mixed bag as in the first one, again, no complaints.

Overall: After playing this demo, I can now look forward to a game which I will enjoy. Probably not as much as DAO, but seeing as how I saw nothing gamebreaking, I can't make a call off of this demo. Though it did give me hope.

Characters don't keep track of their target any more. I'm sure that worksreally well for people who can't be bothered to keep track of which party member's doing what but it annoyed because I'm used to my characters being a tad than that.

So if I'm fighting bad guy number 1 then I switch to another character who's fighting, let's say, bad guy number 2 and I hit the hotkey to make him do something nasty to badguy number 2 then he'll break off, run over and try to do it to bad guy number 1 instead unless I switch targets back to his target first.

There'll be a little marker showing who he's currently fighting/targetted last, but he'll fix on my last controlled character's current target as soon as I give an order. That's really annoying. I hope it's optional because I don't want to have to reselect each party member's target whenever I control them.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the demo.
Really like the faster combat, no more waddling around the battlefield like my Warrior has IBS.

i agree i have a 40 inch and have trouble with the text

If they go with a ridiculously tiny font AGAIN in Mass Effect 3, after basically EVERYONE complained about it in ME2 and yet they put it in this game, then I'll begin to suspect the developers are literally incompetent at listening to their fans.  Font size is such a minor thing that doesn't even affect gameplay and they can't get THAT right?  Really?

I'm almost with you on this one ... it's a radically different *game* from DAO. The combat is dumbed down and made hyper stylised, the graphics made  into a style best described as 'cartoon realism' (Flemeth's hair, afore mentioned 'bazonkas' lying along side DAO gore and 'realism'). . But, I love the world that Bioware have created, and I want to see what effect my choices have had. So, I'll join you in that whiskey, but probably still get the game :)

Combat was confusing at first till I got the hang of it, Graphics was stunning and I love the details on the character clothes.

To anyone saying, the Combat is like Anime:

Bollocks, And the only Anime you can name is Dragon Ball Z...which was mostly a MARTIAL ARTS Show.
