Is anyone else having problems with dx11 ?
Yes. Big problems in fact. The game works like a charm on DX9 settings though.
I have an Nvidia 570 card which should be able to handle DX11. Graphics tears up and it has perfomance issues.
Wrong thread, over on the tech support thread they've already mentioned DX11 is not supported on the demo.

First impressions are not as great as I had hoped, the storytelling is awesome and I like the radial menu. Hawke's voice is great.
Combat is blah...what the hell is this?
The camera view is HORRIBLE. Let me pan down so I can see across the field of combat not just at my feet.
Combat seems cool with all the fancy twirling and all, but its obvious that the consoles won here. You needed to make it simple so controllers can handle it, I get it.
It is so dissapointing when strategy was involed in the first now its just a spam fest. Mash keys and you win. Pause is not considered strategy, its just to slow things down when the screen is filled with various effects/blood/bodyparts so you can actually see what is going on in amidst the chaos.
Also why is the game loading everytime any talk or special action happens, it breaks the immersion badly. It makes the game seem very jittery. An example is the finishing blow on the first Orge, you are in heated combat then finishing move!
In saying all this, I will still play the game to death.
I concur with your "what the hell is this?" combat comment.
I don't understand why its been changed. The demo leaves me frustrated.
I will however attempt to be constructive as requested from the OP.
Played at Very High settings, DX11, and 8xAA.
1. Bland textures, bland landscape, rediculas "tunnelling" level layout.
I know its a destroyed landscape, but making us run along a 1m wide path seems like something they used to do in games in 2001, not 2011. Theres no variation at all in the textures, no unique features to speak of anywhere on the landscape, nothing in the distance; hence my description of bland.
2."wtf!? combat system".
Why have we changed to such a wierd control system? I don't want my character to auto-do-everything, and nether do I want to use such a wierd UI for skills (see next).
3. Black UI.
Hard to use upgrade menus, or to see anything in any menu actually. Windows would go a long way to making this a lot better, not fullscreen black with some darkbrown buttons/icons and sliders on it.
4. Annoying audio.
"Another wave!" every single time Darkspawn approach. As if we have to be reminded there is wave after wave of mobs.
5. Great character models, and thanks for 8xFSAA support ingame.
There was something good in it, but I can't get over the other stuff in the demo - I hope the demo is nothing like the full game frankly.

In the demo you have very few abilities that you need to use to win a fight. In the full game you will have alot more abilites obviously that you need to use to win the fights. It wont be just button mashing with the full gameDJBare wrote...

Although the game is not my cup of tea and I wish they would have made a game catering to fans of more traditional RPGs, I reckon it will be enjoyed by many and, even in the limited version available today, Bioware's excellence as it relates to storytelling was evident.
Again, thank you Bioware for being considerate and giving me the opportunity to make a more informed decision as to whether I purchase the game or not; it is heartening to see that EA's acquisition has not extinguished all of what made you such a wonderful developer.

Xbox 360 demo
One thing that i REALLY found annoying/hated was the text size. The letters are ridiculously small on my tv. I had go right in front of my tv and squint just to read it. Is it just me or are other have this same issue(really small words and text)?
This. Same thing happened in ME2. I like to read about the characters and lore, quests, even when the screens are loading, the text at the top, It was really small on my admittedly naf tv. But, I'm wandering if this has something to do with digital compatabilty in newer games as I could read perfectly in DA:0 and ME1 but not in the follow-ups.
My HD TV/Moniter can't come soon enough. meh......
Apart from that I played it on the 360 and thought the graphics were great.
I'm so in love with lady hawk!
Combat was very good, although, a couple of times I hit the bug as in DA:0, where radial wheel sticks, basically works the other way round to it's design. Press LT, no wheel, release LT wheel, which then completely disables all character control. Only way out of it is to reload but of course, no save. Luckily I'm not too bad so survived.
Please look into this as it's cost me big time before in DA:0.
Voice acting for me is good all round. I understand that they can't all be fantastic. Obviously lady hawke's is the best so far........
Frame rate, especially in cut scenes was a bit off, at one point I thought it was going to freeze, then someone spoke.
Game did freeze once but I understand that can happen in a demo.
To be honest I'm still not completely won over with the menu designs or the ability symbols yet, to me they seem out of place in a fantasy game, but I like the classic designs used in ( da:o, bg, nwn) da2's seem a bit too futuristic for the time frame, but that's my problem and will just have to except them I guess. lol
Overall it left me wanting more and wishing it was march 11th tomorrow!
Thanks Bioware

I love it! Voice acting great, combat is awesome and still super tactical. My first playthrough was warrior s&s. But the thing I want to bring to the front is the new animations, they are WAY better than origins, as an example, when Wesley calls Bethany an apostate, I mean her stance changes and the body language is incredible, also when Aveline kills Wesley it really brought a tear to my eyes. So being able to convey those feelings with these low poly models are really fantastic, my congratulations to the animators.
I felt that those small delays when loading a cutscene a bit distracting although I think those are demo only (hopefully). Also the interface I felt a bit too modern for a game that depicts ancient times, I really liked the "book like" appearance of the Journal in origins.
Oh! And the moments with Varric and Cassandra were excelent! Again great animation and voice acting there.
So, all in all... Bravo Bioware!

- LIKE the new artistic direction, eg the highly stylised painted loads/story sequences.
- DISLIKE the torch in the intro. It's the second shot. The flame looks awesome. But right under it... the embers/coal/wood that the flame is burning from... just a giant flat glowing pixel. On the N64 this is forgivable... but in this day and age? ESPECIALLY in a pre-rendered cutscene.
- Carver's armour had really poor texture/resolution on my Mage playthrough. Generally everyone else was fine (I have an ATI HD5770)
- LMAO @ default FemHawke's eyes. What is she? a Fremen from Dune or something? "Blue within blue eyes" and all that.
- Varric NEEDS to/MUST be voiced by Ray Winstone. Or at the very least be cockney.
- The metal on Bethany's staff head had poor texturing.
- Aveline's sword in the intro. GREAT example of simple design being effective and BADASS.
- Dear lord Wesley is a snivelling wimp isn't he. Immediately disliked him, and felt the union of bold as brass balls red head Amazon-esque warrior woman with this ratty little ****** was totally mis-matched.
- Ears in general look really poor and under detailed.
- I didn't have nearly as much fun as a Mage. Beth, Carver and Aveline tended to wipe everybody out before I really got to have fun.
- Sometimes had trouble targeting the fireball area marker. As some have said, top down, detachable from character camera needed for this. And I've seen Mr Laidlaw demo this in a video too, hopefully it will be in the final version.
- Should totally have the option to pick up Carver's two-hander upon his death, it's evidently far more badass than anything we're going to find for a while, and would add a sentimental element, eg taking a piece of us with him, even though he's passed on.
- The warrior's Whirlwind move is BADASS. Utterly epic.
- The cut edit after the warrior jumps down off the Ogre having killed it, to Bethany saying "there's too many of them" seemed needlessly clipped and abrupt.
- Okay, now my major beef: The intro to the story as a whole was kinda lame. I'm out in the middle of nowhere, some blasted plain, fighting some grunts. Then it changes slightly and im lvl1 again, and running around with my family. Lame. I'm in an environment i don't care about, with people I don't know well enough to care about.
I hate to bring up ME, given the amount of whingers that have compared with it already... but this intro simply does not compare at all to the intro to ME2. We're set in a location we all know and love (the normandy) and it's being torn apart and we have to race through it's fire blown ravaged corridors etc. The bit where you walk into where the Galaxy map should be and just look out at the stars through the huge hole in the hull is INCREDIBLE. I've done a whole slew of storywriting modules at University. Basic principle: If you want to show us the emotion of something being torn apart eg a family, being wrenched from their home, spend some time setting us up within the comfort of that family, showing us the lifestyle they love and are comforted in before they are brutally ravaged from it. That would also have us start at Lothering, a location we are familiar with, and thus more emotion will register when we see the Darkspawn burn pillage and rape their way through it.
The two character deaths we witnessed were so emotionally weak. The sibling dies (brutally chucked around, okay that bit was good). Then the mother's reaction was so flat, as were the other two siblings. Oh great, a person I didn't know just died. Why the hell should I care? We're given no time at all to build up a decent emotional bond with them.
As for Wesley... kinda the same thing, plus he's a snivelling rat. Thus I care even less. I was SLIGHTLY moved when I watched Aveline plunge his own dagger into his heart with her hands wrapped around his over the hilt. But then the emotion was broken as I realised she's just "plunged" it directly through his full plate armour... er... hello? How difficult would it have been to animate them stabbing up under his armour, or through a ****** in it. Sigh.
TLDR? People died. I'd known them for all of three minutes and wasn't attached enough to them to care.

No idea how much has altered, but if you go watch the recent videos, I don't think there will be drastic changes. Kind of defeat purpose of a public demo to hand it out, and have people go "I love it" and Bioware go "Oh yea we changed everything."

Regular Console player here, but had to play the demo on the PC on account of RROD.
Where to begin then...
Been somewhat concerned with what I've heard about DA2 in the run up to its release.
It all sounded like marketing speak for "Dumbing down", and from reading some of the other posts, I'm not the only one who thought so.
My concern is only there because Mass Effect 2 said very similar things in its marketing build up (all sounded good to me at the time), but then upon release, it was PAINFULLY simplified, as well as having a much weaker plot (Shamus Young's show "Spoiler Warning" points the flaws out wonderfully, very funny show
Still, I've been mostly optimistic and it seems from the demo we're getting what I expected.
Feedback:
- Opening screen and menu are nice and slick.
- Opening cutscene has the righ- *crash*.....damn.
- Opening cutscene has the right feel of DAO, and sets the scene quite well.
- Hmmmm Mage looks fun....going Male Warrior though, Bethany looks more interesting then Carver(looks too much like Matt Smith for my tastes...)
- Holycrapdarkspawnattck! *Awesome battle ensues*
- Combat much more stylish! Was very stale in DAO, so this is good.
- On the other hand, its a little bit to quick to be making tactical combat choices without the pause button. If I get it for 360 in the end, I'll be button mashing, or if I stick with the comp I'll be paused CONSTANTLY.
- ohhhh conversation! Hawke's voice is good, very good actually. It ...has emotion(!),unlike Shepard (not my favorite voice on the Citadel).
- Ahhh end of Varric's "bull****" story. Yay, Character cust-*DISABLED*-awwwwww
- Okay, Carver joins us. Man, he just annoys me....I think its the sleeveless shirt...
- Okay, voice acting. I have to be honest, Hawke's whole family sound quite stiff and awkward. They seem to pause between words like school children (that sounds really harsh to say now I've typed that...). Bethany improved a little later though.
- The other character sounds better, along with her Redshirt husband.
- However, have to say, we're moving very fast here...no time to get to know Hawke's family at all, and we're adding more characters. I know we'll get to know them later in Kirkwall, but where is the crucial Act1/status quo in this tale? Just an observation.
- Also, a note about the character models...I know this may seem petty, but I can already hear my girlfriend complaining about it, so I should probably mention this on her behalf.
The Female models look like...well, models. They are very thin and VERY busty.
I feel I should also mention I always respected DAo for being realistic and having normal female bodies, rather then falling into the Hollywood style booby trap (pun indeed) most games fall into. That might also have contributed to why DAo had fairly large and dedicated following of female gamers.
They also do that "sexy" stance with their butt sticking out to the side...looks really awkward for someone who just lost their family. Though I did notice the Templar woman ( the name escapes me) had a normal stance. That was a nice touch I thought, fitting of her character.
- Boss fight! Nice and challenging!? Good job Bioware!
- Flemeth! Looking very much like an older version of Morrigan now....interesting...
- Okay, conversation again.
Finding my lack of choices disappointing. Its got the same Nice (top) Neutral (middle) Mean (bottom) set up as Mass Effect, as I feared.
Its a little different though, the neutral option is instead good ol' Dragon Age Snark ^__^
Interestingly, when I went through as FemHawke later, I found she seemed like 3 different people depending on whether you picked top, middle, bottom. So much so that it didnt feel natural to say something nice followed by snark. The voice sounded like a different person. It was a bit jarring.
- Okay, Kirkwall bit. Having a full party with combat abilities was VERY fun. Combat in this game is not a problem anymore, although, its still very frantic trying to keep up with all 4 characters. Still, a bit of practice by the end and this was not really a problem anymore.
- Finding this part much more like DAo. The writing and acting is a HUGE improvement over the stiff opening segment. I think Bioware did themselves a disservice by using that opener as the demo.
See, it was not just the talking that was lower standards. The background and setting of Lothering was very bland, dull and uninspired. Just...grey wasteland....*Snore*
Kirkwall has some contrasts and things too look at. Alot more fun to run around in.
Anway, rambled way to long already, but LOTS to discuss.
Looking forward to reading more about what the rest of the internet thinks.

The game may very well be complex, the demo however isn't the slightest complex. The combats were all extremely easy, you barely had to do anything. And the player had practically no input at all into how the story progressed.
It seems that this is a sequel that is very dumbed down for people like you. Glad you like it though!

Until then here a couple of glitches/bugs.
1. Clipping
i) Bow clipping through shoulder when walking/running
ii) Eyelid clipping (on the templar) during conversation just before the templar dies, soon after Flemoth (total MILF btw!
2. Animation glitching
i) When walking on uneven terrain (ie. the entire first level) the animation pops about as tho it's missing a frame.
3. UI bugs
i) Attributes page image overlay. See pic http://img96.imagesh...tributesbug.jpg
ii) The tactics screen is pretty darn infuriating to use
4. Camera unresponsiveness
i) Rotating the camera using the right mouse button is quite often unresponsive
Hope that helps.
PS. I don't expect that you will be doing, but if you release a patch for the demo please enable the ability to save! Thanks.

She. And you seem to be here, too. I'm not sure what you're getting at.
For what it's worth, I did give an indepth analysis of what I liked and didn't like pages ago. And I was playing it on PC.
I think femHawke's run is awkward looking, at best. Voice acting on a few of the characters was stilted and flat in places. And as others have pointed out, the environment in the Wilds/around Lothering at least seemed somewhat barren. The loading in cut scenes the devs have already said is gone in the final build, so there's no point in me really mentioning that. I do wish Hawke had more of a visual reaction to their siblings' death, too, but I think a dev commented about that, as well. A thread about crying, some weeks ago.
Other than that, I was fine with the demo.

Just as in real life, people come in all shapes and sizes, you don't just turn people aside for their form, or maybe some of you do : /
I know it may come as a horriffic shock to some, but most dudes would rather girls ate something and looked closer to Isabella (not proportions, just generel health) than the Darkspawn we see on the catwalks.
I got no problems with it man, It's a fantasy game, I don't think they went overboard. I think it adds, actually having people of all shapes and size, isn't that one of the whole loved things on these forums "equality for all" hugs and kisses?
I'd rather not play games full of obese beer bellied lards. Or just ... really dull characters all round. I like variety thanks. Games, especially fantasy, are meant to be kind of an alternate world which is appealling generally.

I completely agree. I actually looked forward to the demo to squash some of my concerns, but it's only made them more profound. The UI becomes extremely annoying (I thought I could get used to it) and Bioware's attempts to make the game much faster paced results in attack animations that look like you have Haste on all the time. The attack speed wouldn't be a problem, but the fact that your auto attack animation loops much more frequently than in DA: O makes combat seem a bit more boring.Elessie wrote...

The positive:
Graphics on high settings (in directX 11) look great!
Combat feels more satisfying than DA:O (although I have to experience the actual game to know, for sure, that it won't get as frustrating as in DA:O..)
Combat has much better gore effects
Characters and their expressions really draw you in
The negative:
Two-handed Warrior class feels underpowered to me, especially compared to the Rogue
All females have absurdly big boobs! They distract since I can't help staring at them, mesmerized.
Mysterious crash issues..

The only bad part, performance was really bad, huge slowdowns at random intervals for no good reason. But since there was no save feature, I didn't tinker with the video settings too much.
