Nothing good about this demo. Honestly, I can't believe I pre-ordered this garbage. The art style is cartoony and the animations are repetitive and too over the top (I felt like I was watching bad anime). Oh and all the women have HUGE breasts.... not all women have DD cup size.

After reading some of the feedback while waiting on one of my 5 download attempts to finish, I was a little worried. I loved the first DA and i loved Baldurs Gate and that style of game.
But I must say I think this is well done. Why exactly it is DA 2 i dunno. Because its just not. It uses the lore and some of the chars but the game play is far to different to be a direct number 2.
Everything works fine the fights are fine, combat is quick and entertaining, the dialog wheel is good and smoothly moves along conversation quickly and easily. The hints as to how the people will take your response arent as annoyingly postion as people make them out to be. Infact if you dont look for them you might not even notice them. The UI is clean and clear, some things are a bit smallish and my ogre hands have a hard time clicking them, but eh.
Twoproblem i have and I am assuming one is just the way the demo is set up, you can only show so much, is that everything is exactly linear. Im assuming in the full game that wont be a problem. I hope.
The Second are the dark spawn. Im not sure what look we were going for here, but in a mature rated game I expected more? They just look like really ugly and slightly dim witted people. People are suppose to be afraid of them. I dont know maybe i will go back to DAO and look at them again.
All in all i look forward to it.

Pros: Fluid Combat, Movement, Graphics (once i got used to them), Voice Acting, Loved the Animations (except running as female)
Cons: Prolly cuz of demo but ambient oclusion on with dx11 drops framerate drastically on a decent rig with max resolution and aa ect., Cant seem to feel the emotions from the characters like i did in DA:O, they almost feel like they have a blank face all the time, Dialogue wheel seems alittle to simple (i liked the mass effect one but loved DA:O better)
overall experience i love it and march 8th cant come soon enough

Why the hell is "friendly fire" off?! o0 It was a very important part in dao and now the AoE Spells seem to be very imbalanced.

I think you should probably blog about your experiences in this thread, it might make you feel better.. and not hurt anyone. By the way, it is feedback by means of expressing displeasure. But i'm sure you knew that.

Graphics: I'm not going to talk about the visuals that much. I was playing on a lower-end laptop on medium (low when I got to Kirkwall). One thing I'll say is that though it got a little unsteady during some cutscenes (my laptop is weak), I'm astonished at how smoothly the combat ran on my computer. Whoever optimized the engine did a good job, because I experienced very few hiccups. It ran smoother than Origins ran on my computer! All of that aside, I enjoyed the visuals overall. There were some clipping issues, but I really can't get that worked up over it.
Sound: I liked the music, and I found myself noticing how much I liked the sound effects, particularly the sound of the mage's auto-attack. I also enjoy how sound plays into the distinctness of an ability; when rogue hawke used Pinning Shot, it wasn't as visually flashy but there was a unique sound that went with it that I liked.
Story: It was interesting, though I knew what to expect from all of the previews and footage that we've seen. I felt that the dialogue wheel works quite well. It's true that a few of the lines Hawke says don't really seem to match with what the paraphrase says exactly, but they've already said they aren't trying to do that. What the responses DO do is guide the conversation in the direction you want it to go (insofar as Hawke can contribute). I also enjoyed all of the voice acting I heard, although a few of Aveline's lines felt a bit off.
Combat: I loved the combat, to put it simply. After playing Origins, it is so refreshing to have an actual sense of immediacy without feeling rushed (and despite the speed, I never did feel rushed). The animations are fairly fluid as well. The game seemed noticeably easier than Origins, which I think is appropriate for Normal difficulty at the beginning of the game. I expect the difficulty to ramp up for certain encounters, but I'll be honest; it felt perfect for me. I had to pay attention to my pary, but not to a massive degree. The people who desire a greater amount of micromanagement should be able to turn up the difficulty.
I also enjoyed the abilities. There's something immensely satisfying in flinging a Searing Fireball into a mob while Hawke and/or Varric simultaneously fire Hail of Arrows into it as well. One thing that puzzled me, though, was the cooldowns. I was expecting them to be longer, and we've now had several conflicting reports on cooldown times. For example, I thought Fireball had a fifteen second cooldown, but it seems to have a ten second cooldown. Maybe it's because of the build, but I'm very curious as to what those will be in the final product.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and am excited for March 8th.

How do you know if you got the special item for playing the demo?
It should come up int the "your registered game promotions" on the profile tab underneath your display picture, I forget its name but I'm sure it has razor in the title.

THIS, i could not agree with you more, PLEASE keep the team of Dragon Age and it's writers far far away from Mass Effect 3
Right. Because two very different writing teams for two very different games will somehow maliciously team up and ruin your expectations AGAIN.
I find it kind of funny. People were just a fanatical about the changes in ME2 from ME1.

1. I'd forgotten how much harder gameplay is when you don't have oodles of health potions. I was happily using up health potions and then got to the ogre and was like "oh crap." Definitely had to start over and be more sparing.
2. I'm with whoever above that said I might actually play a mage on the first playthrough. I usually always play warrior first, rogue second, mage last, (or whatever that equals to for the game) but the mage prologue was way easier and more fun than the warrior one.
3. I got to see a little example of how the "automatic dialogue" can change depending on your choices. In my first playthrough, I did a lot of playful choices, and at one point got a dialogue that said something like "if the options are south or death, I choose south." In the second one I was more aggressive, and when that line came up, it was something different.
Soooooo excited!

After playing PS3 with warrior and mage, I've got to say I'm looking forward to this. The animation is different and the combat more fluid--both things I'll have to get used to, but I'm excited for the opportunity. Mage in particular was quite fun; looks like that will be the first class on my playthrough. Varric's 'exaggerated' scenes were pretty awesome--I'm curious if the scene with Isabela constituted as one with the way she threw that dagger.
Maybe the knee-jerk reactions will subside with time; criticism is one thing, but the cries of 'console kiddies' and 'ruined forever' seem a bit much. It's a big change, but we've only seen a little bit, and mostly the 'action' parts of this action RPG. I'm not going to start cursing or praising Bioware fully until I play the actual game.

Overall, I very much liked the demo. So far, I have only had the time to play Lady Hawke warrior. Have to say this is the first time I will do an initial playthrough as the default character. She is beautiful, the armor is MAJORLY improved in looks, and I'm digging the voiced protagonist deal. Was not sure if I would like it, but I do. The new conversation wheel is nice as well - love that you have visual indicators for tone!
I'm pretty happy with the combat. Some may complain that it's "God of War"-ish and then proceed to bash consolers... but, honestly, this is so far improved over shuffle-shuffle-stab. Seriously.
My negatives are very few so far. Do not at all like the darkspawn visual overhaul, but I know I have to learn to live with it. Otherwise, my only other major complaint is the inability to "pause" during cutscenes. That is to say, in DA:O, if I hit the round, little PS button in the center of my controller -- that which brings up a see-through/transparent screen of the XMB (main screen) of the PS3 -- it would pause the game in mid cutscene. This was utterly fabulous if I had to pause for a husband interruption, dog interruption, or anything else that might occur during a looooooong cutscene. However, when I try this trick with the demo, the action and talking just continues on in the background. That is a major bummer, but I also understand that it is probably a very small and minor complaint.
In conclusion, I am very sad that March 8th feels like a year away currently. On the upside, 'tis been a good day. Got the shiny new demo AND found out I WILL be able to take the 8th off along with the rest of the week (it had looked like I was going to have to work the 8th despite my use-them-or-lose-them vacation days). So, here's a rejoicing fan.

I had the same problem as well. Hope it's just a bug with the demo.

Erm no, not unless this changed with a patch. I specifically remember eating fireballs from NPC's in the mage tower when i first did watchguard of the reaching on normal, as well as several illplaced Cone of Cold by morrigan.

The linearity is a function of the demo. The opening of the game (like most game openings) is linear, but the jump to Isabela represents anywhere from 5 to 20 hours of gameplay, depending on what you do.
I would have loved to show some non-linear parts of gameplay, but to do so would have required some nigh-impossible backflips simply because the game is VERY open around the time when you meet 'Bela. Hence the decision to keep it focused on action and let you try a higher-level combat with some different party members.

They managed to turn Dragon age into a button masher, i just couldnt believe the fact that i had to Keep CONSTANTLY bashing the A button. Not to mention arrows Give off a huge glitchy type line across the screens looks like theres strings attached everywhere. other then that Shure it was a good demo but i PRAY they fix the button mashing and these weird arrow graphical glitches.
And i found the cutscenes just skipped themselveswhat happened bioware
The attack method will be optional in the actual game. Auto like Origins, or press to attack like the console demos. We will be able to toggle our preference.
