What I saw is a totally different type of game. It's an interactive movie and it's clearly hack&slash.
While not happy at all for the hack&slash I saw, I'll have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the interactive movie elements
+'s
* cutscenes.
* trying to experiment with an interactive move.
-'s
*no top down camera.
*graphics are mediocre, though I reserve judgement because I haven't seen it with everything maxed.
*combat is **way** too easy. In another thread I said that wouldn't be a prob but I had no idea what I was talking about. The game can be finished on auto-pilot. Only part where pressing "R" does not solve everything is the ogre fight. I put no gear on, half of my talents were utter bull and still that went smoothly (with Beth soloing the Ogre + 2 darkspawn, AI is too weak there).
*It's a hack&slash, beyond any doubt.
*the correspondence between wheel options and what's actually said is ****ed many times.
Overall it felt like a rushed job, sorry Bioware. DAO was much much better

Please tell me this wont be in the final version.
The game animation gets really choppy when a lot of people are on screen, the animations speed up dramatically because the animation isn't smooth. It starts skipping frames in animation and that's when things get ugly in battles.
None of the animations transition into each other when this happens.
but when there's only one enemy on screen, the game slows down as it should and animations look beautiful.
I've noticed this problem in gameplay videos before, anybody else notice this?

Also, the background music is nice, especially in the sibling death scene, and the loading screens/area&world maps/GUI is way more stylish this time around. Oh and nice music choice for the credits. Florence and the Machine is
People have funky lower eyelashes though. Too long. And the buggy eyes effect is still present, though scaled back. I think it may be a function of the animation for widened eyes or something, I'm not sure, but I see it especially on Cassandra at points, and on that guy that Fenris phase-punches (in the footage Mike showed earlier today).
Anyway I already covered most of my impressions in an earlier post for whatever dev might be following the entire thread but I'm too lazy to go back and quote myself, just wanted to add a few things I forgot.

Being forced to autoattack in the demo for consoles is not good, especially for people who don't hang around the forums and such and don't know that it will be togglable(is that a word?) in the final game.
The small loading times that showed up whenever a cutscene started, as many have mentioned are mildly annoying to me.
Otherwise though, I approve. The graphics are good enough for a console game, and since I'm not a graphics wh*re I stopped caring about them after about 2 seconds. The visual style is pretty nice and much more distinct, even if there is still alot of brown.
Despite the button mashing I enjoyed the combat for all 3 classes, and very much look forward to playing a mage when I get the game on the 8th.

I played the early part of the demo. Up to the part where you get to see the customize screen, even though it is disabled. At that part my PC crashes. I have a decent PC that is fairly new so I'm not sure why I can't play past that part.
The graphics were amazing (on PC, it was like a whole new game from PS3 experience for DA:O). My PC has the DIVX9 covered but not the DIVX11. I can only imagine how nice that looks. The gameplay was smooth and fluid. The controls seemed a little foreign to me. I own Dragon Age Origins/Awakenings on PS3. Only PC games I own are Mass Effect 1 & 2. I have played a lot of online games though. Just saying with my experience the controls are a little different (for PC).
I'm sure even if the graphics on PS3 aren't nearly as good as I experienced on PC, I think DA2 on PS3 is going to be a ton of fun. I can't wait!
I love you Bioware!

I do find myself annoyed by the OMGWTF-sized two-handed weapons, elf ears, breasts, and biceps, and I might call that a visual dumbing-down, but visual only.

First thing, and I know it has been said numerous times, but the text is way too small....I have to squint my eyes and get closer to my tv to be able to read. And also maybe the color? I think it was in the gameplay option, but it was dark red(?) on a black background... it's not exactly eyes friendly. I know it's suppose to fit the mood of the darker, grittier DA2, but it's really hard to read.
Combat animations are nice, but because they are faster, the moves get kinda repetitive...especially if our enemy's a tough one to take down and you continue your hack and slash relentlessly.
Pressing A to attack; fun at the beginning, but then it got a bit tiring for my poor thumb =D and it was difficult to have to move the camera around while attacking. Auto-attack / Auto-target off for the demo I think...(?) I guess I'll just wait for the game for that.
The facial expressions; I feel that characters mostly have a bland look on their faces. But when animations are present, eyes/eyebrows expressions are done nicely, but the rest of the face doesn't match up.
=D cheers

not really pro or con:
-In the scene with Isabela at the end of the demo she made a move on my female hawk which was kinda akward too almost like the demo was made for the male hawk
I think it was made pretty clear during the encounter with her at The Pearl in DAO that Isabella swings in whatever direction the wind is blowing

This has a cheesy arcade feel to it and the graphics are....crappy....I might just be spoiled by the awesome mods and morphs I have for DAO. I really hope the cheesy button mashing gameplay is a symptom of this being a cross platform demo. The game play was smooth but I still get a feeling I should be feeding my PC with quarters.
Thats another thing everything now adays is so fast pace, shoot shoot, run shoot, no break no pause so fast, so just eh, and thats why I loved Dragon age origins, it wasn't that it was differant, and now it is the same,
it has sold it soul to the mob, Ayn rand would be palm facing atm.
In a few years I wouldn't be suprised if I saw DRAGON AGE 7: ANCIENT WAREFARE
and at that point it simply living off it once glorious rep to sell

forgot to add I hate the terrible female walking animations and the monky like darkspawn. Seriously they look and move horrible. Too many characters that look alike in the game.

It doesn't feel like BG2/DA1. It feels like a hack and slash like dungeon siege or something. The demo didn't make me interested in the story at all. No emotions. All is bland. Although we can't get our hands in the inventory i saw the icons for the equipment....very ugly & simple, NO art!
Of course i will play the full game when it comes out but i think this game is a step backwards from the top notch DA1.
I hope playing the full game will make me like it because this demo just seemed.....rushed.
Well, 1 year in the making...
I think 2-3 years are necessary for a worthy successor to dragon age 1.
I got the feeling i was playing an expansion or a DLC with changed combat system in graphics.

Then again, I was using the same button I did for DAO. Is it different for DA2?

con's loading seems to cut in, at bad time in middle of a speach, (when templar call varric out on his story). having problem with characters getting frozen. can't move or attack, have to move another character then you can move the stuck one.

Pro:
- Mage was definately more fun
- Rogue seemed okay to play, i didn't play with tactics and i don't plan on playing that Demo more than once, so i will see how it works in the actual game... but the way backstab seems to be working, is actually pretty cool and seems to slove that horrible issue from DA1 where you couldn't tell your rogues to actually walk into backstab position, unless you told them to.
- Ogre looks better
Thats it for Pros already.
Cons:
- I hate the new look of the Darkspawn
- I hate the look of that Templar. What happened to the bulky Templar armor? What is he? Some Recruit who couldn't get a real Armor?
- I so hate what you did to Flemeth. Okay maybe she used some disguise spell, but seriously.. couldn't you at least make her resemble her old self at least a little? Whats up with her hair? Did it cloth up and she is just to lazy to fix it, so she tied some ribbons around it?
- The camera really is something i have to get used to. Why can't it spin when i hit the edges of screen?
- The camera doesn't seem to work properly. When using my Rogue to backstab people i ended up being locked in a flipping around camera, as it didn't seem to know which way to face now. That was really annoying to have it jump 180° like 10 times a second.
-I used the german synchronization of the game, because i wanted to spoiler as little as possible (and will play it in english)... and gosh... the voices you picked... horrible. Say it with me.. they are horrible. Do you really plan to make Cassandra sound like a little fangirl who is swooning over the champion getting moist along the way? Seriously... i am so glad i will be able to play in english.

BioWare
Why did you "dumb" down the game in every way?
??? I really don't see where it has been "dumbed down".
I see a game with a character improvement system that is more flexible and with more depth, and combat that is 500% more responsive, faster, and more exciting, without any real change to the tactics involved.
???
- No race choices
- The dialoge options are pretty "dumbed" "Nerfed" or whatever you want to call it
- If that was Normal mode on the demo I can't even imagine how Easy mode will be? People failing at the ogre? Didn't even use my mage instead I used that warrior to move around since he bugged and what do you know, they killed the ogre without me interfering..
- The attributes was dumbed down aswell..
- The actuall gameplay hours was shorten and can't even be compared to DAO(which I still believe has little gametime)
- The fights was way to easy and you could autoattack yourself to win, yes that is what I called dumbed down..
- Again the ogres was nothing more then jokes compared to DAO
- Interface/UI
I could give you more reasons but its 4:55 in the morning here so my brain isnt working well at this hour.

the gameplay itself is a lot of fun, I was skeptical about the new frantic combat, but on the PC with the ability to pause and line abilities up and coordinate is incredibly satisfying. at one point i had Aveline round up all the baddies with a taunt, then I (rogue) drop kicked a stun bomb thinger into them and had my sister and the dwarf open up with their AOE skills. VERY satisfying.
While I can understand people being dissapointed if they are trying to play it as a hack and slash,i just have to say that they are doing it wrong. if anything this game is MORE tactical than the first game.
I played through the demo 3 times, once for each class. Rogue stood out by far as my favorite, the rogues new mobility is wicked fun. You really get to define the battlefield with the stunbomb and being able to evade and all of that, cannot wait to play with the other skills not included.
Mage is also quite good, it feels more visceral this time around. like you could actually hurt something with that staff. the animations are great, though they will likely get quite repetitive. I think Cone of Cold is my favorite spell, very satisfying to cast.
Warrior was disappointing. It doesn't really feel changed at all. It was a good class in DA:O, but with the other classes updates, the rogue in particular, it feels like the warrior just didn't keep up. maybe I'll change my mind when I get the full game and can play with more skills, but that's what I got from the demo.
The Music was great, always is. Sound effects were good, very visceral, you could feel the hits. Voice work wasn;t the best I've ever heard, but far from the worst. Was Hawke's Mother the same voice as the Human Noble voice from Origins? that seems odd, nothing wrong with reusing a voice actress, but in nearly the exact same role, but a different person? made me do a double take at any rate.
anyways, that was a little rambling, sorry. I liked the demo very much, I was a skeptic, but I have been won over and have now pre-ordered the game.
