In fact there is arguably more tactics since you can respond to battlefield changes immediately and set up combinations of powers more easily because there is less lag.  You can still pause and give orders, you still need to know when to use which power, and each power has situations for which it is most advantageous.  Not sure what you think is so different about it.

What tactics? LOL.

I did not need any tactics. I just spammed skills. Scripts can do that skill spamming on my behalf. A human is not needed for that.

I had reservations when I heard there were going to be changes. I heard a lot about the combat system being different but really I only found backstab as an attack instead of being automatic the only real significant difference. The fight animations are great as are the graphics. Compared to Origins the graphics of DA2 are incredible. I quite enjoyed it and am happy my concerns were put to rest in the first few minutes. I will probably change the key bindings to Origins though.

Well I've played through the PC Demo as each class and have to say they are all a lot of fun...

I can't say that I like the positioning of the Party stats...I just don't look down there when fighting, and thus keep dying suddenly...as do various members of my party while taking on the Ogre and co. The other thing that really bugs me is that if a characters health drops below about 25% they will not take a health potion before dying...even if I take them over and move them out of the immediate combat area...

Other than those grips, love the demo...can't wait for the full game!

played the demo on 360, loved it. combat feels so much more natural than it did in DA:O, and the new visual style is way more effective than DA:O's. cannot wait for the full game.

The misleading dialogue wheel options are driving me nuts :o

Sometimes I get three options that are not appropriate with the conversation; Like when Bethany dies and the mother is crying over her corpse. I was looking for a compassionate, yet alarmed response, but all the response were pretty one sided; "It's okay" "She died bravely" "Lets get out of here". I mean, I wouldn't say that in her position...my sister just died! Why! Why!.

I was kind of annoyed when I said "He won't be alone" and the full line was "At least father won't be alone." What? When did my father come into the conversation?

Played the demo on PS3 and loved it.

In terms of gameplay, it is very different from DAO but in a positive way. The way the characters move, the rogue in particular, feels like the combat system from Jade Empire, which is amazing. I deeply enjoy the speed of combat, and while it is very easy in terms of difficulty, I have the feeling that might change when you switch from normal to hardcore or nightmare.

The sound was amazing, as music and effects tend to be in all Bioware games, and I love having a fully voiced character. For me there's a huge difference between selecting a text option and actually having my character recite the line that I've selected. Also, the subtle differences employed in language between a neutral answer, sarcastic response and aggressive response really sell the differences between the emotional styles of Hawke that you can play.

Visually, it's better than DAO, which is all I need. DAO was great on consoles despite less than stellar graphics, and the new artistic style really does highlight the fantasy elements of the game in a way that is deeply pleasing aesthetically. And shattering frozen enemies is badass. The new combat animations deeply shift the game's pacing, which is good for anyone who felt combat in DAO was a little slow. While I'm sure I'll be paying more attention to the tactics when I play on a higher difficulty, it was nice to spend less time micromanaging and just **** up some darkspawn. Lothering's color scheme hasn't shifted much, and a drab brown is a drab brown, but Kirkwall looks beautiful. Really looking forward to playing through some more of the new environments.

All in all, two thumbs up, a solid demo that got me even more excited for a game I already can't wait for. Pretty sure this new heart rate isn't healthy, so thanks Bioware. Seriously.

Tactic Screen is not working right, it's very hard to get it to even set up proper tactics, so perhaps ya'll can have a patch for that on release or perhaps the demo is a different build to the game thats coming out, either way, That's really my only gripe.

I love how people gripe about not needing tactics. Even if you dont need them, they're still fun to use. I paused quite a bit in the demo not out of the need to do it, but because its enjoyable. When the game comes out, play it on hard. Then you'll need the tactics.

Oh man, that demo. The combat is fluid. The graphics and facial expressions are better. The mage class is a bit more "squish-ified" than seemed before, but hopefully they will still be powerful contenders all the same.

I didn't really get why they locked the inventory in the demo, and using the starter weapons was dumb.

But my biggest gripe, and it's stupid I get it, is the female Hawke's running and walking animations. They just looked so unnatural. It actually brought me out of the game. It's weird, but that's what I was thinking.

Otherwise, I loved it. Will be playing it well up until the launch 2 weeks from now.

I don't want to troll, but I want to give you honest feed back, since I absolutely loved the first game.

Played the PC demo w/dx11.

Graphics are fine. I don't play rpgs for the eye candy, but the lighting was good. The color palette on the other hand was so drab. It felt washed out and uninteresting. I did like the illuminated manuscript montages though. The cg cut scenes were fine, but there was some weird loading going on.

Combat. This is now absurdly fast. I honestly didn't enjoy any of the changes here. The words "hack and slash" and "console" come to mind. Area effect spells really need the top down view as well. I just felt disappointed here. I felt like the speed of Origins worked well. I played that on PC and Xbox and enjoyed both versions just fine. Its not an issue of not liking change, its just that this feels ridiculous. Its so fast that you can't even tell whats happening with the NPCs half the time.

Narrative: I really enjoyed both mass effect games. I really enjoyed origins. I really enjoyed that origins was not mass effect. DA2 is like Mass Dragon Effect Age. I don't like the abbreviated wheels, Half, if not all, of Hawkes responses don't even need the summarization there. It just feels imprecise, and that is not what I want from a role playing game.

Design: Felt so incredibly linear. Yes it is a demo, but I felt like I had no control over the character or the party. I didn't have any sense of consequence. I'm sure there is in the main campaign, but I didn't really see that here.

Over all: feels like the series has been dumbed down. Where the first game was rich and vibrant, this feels washed out. Where combat was geared towards strategy, this is all hack and slash, even playing as a mage.

I'm going to have to wait for post launch feedback to really see if this is a game for me.

To the devs: sorry to be so down on the demo. I loved the first game and feel like I have to be honest with you. Keep on keeping on.

I dont get why people are saying its a hack n slash, if anything ive used more pause and play during the demos ive played today then anytime during origins. Origins i ran on every mode but nightmare and rarely paused the game because i didnt need to. My companions would use there tactics and then the skills would be on cooldown for the next minute and by then the battle would be over. During the demo i was constantly pausing with my rogue and mage to lob fireballs and smoke bombs before setting up for backstabs. The combat is MORE tactical then it was in origins in my opinion.

Stupidly assumed the 'Demo is now available' thread was also the feedback thread. Anyway, what I said there was: "Just finished the demo. I preferred the Origins UI. More fantasy-y.

There's
also a bit of a delay (two seconds or so) between close-up dialogue and
'cutscenes' (ranging from actual cutscenes to parts of the dialogues
where characters walk about). This could be because my PC is old and
dying, though.

Other than that, GIEF GAME NAO!"

"Think like a general, fight like a spartan" indeed!

I felt much more involved in the battles than I ever did in Origins, without the game having to sacrifice that tactical feeling as well. Great game.

I see people judging the depth of the combat based on the prologue of the game...Of course we're going to be using basic attacks a lot when we only have a couple talents available.

Okay, here is my feedback. Played on the PC version. Bioware, I hope you're listening! Provided in bullet-point for convenience.

1) No isometric view for PC players. Really let down by this.

2) In DA: O I was able to hold Tab to show nameplates above all the NPCs and party members. I can no longer seem to do this with any key I tried. I found this feature REALLY useful, as it helped me pick priority targets without mousing over each one individually. I play a mage so I tend to stay at range, and looking over at a pile of Darkspawn and my party member with spell effects everywhere makes it almost impossible to distinguish what is going on or who is present.

3) I appreciate that Hawke is a hero and strong, but he's just.... I don't know. I don't like him. I don't believe in him as a character. He's just TOO badass, if that makes sense. Everything is so tough, so flashy that it becomes over the top. It's the very first moment of the game and I already feel like I'm way stronger than anything out there. I get the impressive the game is really trying to say "Hey, look how AWESOME he is! YEAH! See? See?". It just feels forced.

3) I really, really dislike the UI. Origin's UI and menu system still at least had a fantasy feel to them, like in the codex you were reading right from a book found in Ferelden. This UI sucks my immersion away completely, and it's not pretty to look at either.

4) The new graphical style is too "stylized" for me. In Origins Ferelden looked like a real place. I totally believed in it. It was gritty, dirty, with dust motes and all kinds of cool textures. The fire looked like fire instead of the weird yellowy splash "fireball" in DA2. The environments in DA2 are nice enough to look at, but they seem more like a video game than a real place. Maybe that's what you were going for, though, I don't know...

Basically, the new graphics style and UI combined don't make me feel like I'm in the Universe anymore. I also feel like Bioware is lot less dedicated to the PC audience than they were with Origins, which just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Edit! 5) : The new conversation system. Having a voice is nice, I like that a lot... but the new system has some sad limitations. As many others have said, you now have exactly THREE ways to respond 1) Nice 2) Neutral 3) ANGRY. You even go to the trouble of little icons which show it that way. In Origins we had a lot more ways to respond, and I'm really going to miss that.

I still have mixed feelings so far. But I can say that before playing the demo I was ready to get it on launch day, and now after playing it I think I'll be waiting to see the reviews and other people's comments.

I just finished my mage and warrior playthroughs, and I liked the demo well enough - I love, love, love both Lady and MaleHawke. Voice choices = awesome. But I have a few gripes.

The combat felt a little too fast for me, and the powers take forever to cool down - especially with my mage Hawke. I'd fire off Mind Blast and a Fireball and have to spend the next two minutes jamming A and running away.

The scene with Bethany/Carver dying was... a little underwhelming. It is at the beginning of the game, so there isn't really time for the player to form an emotional attachment - but the scene itself... I understand why Hawke isn't crying, but Mama Hawke? She just lost one of her children, and she doesn't shed a tear? Posted Image
...Also, how do you know if you got the DLC item?

I agree with AgenTBC. Yes, combat feels quick, frantic, exciting whatever. It just doesn't have WEIGHT. It's just a series of movements and limbs: attack! attack! attack! but you don't feel the throes of the fighting. It's just too cartoony for me.

I also have misgivings about the dialogue wheel. Often, the wheel shows up a little later than it should, so there's a 1-2 seconds lull after the last conversation, which makes the whole scene a little off. It also doesn't feel as responsive: mouse-clicking dialogue choices doesn't feel as smooth as it should. And while I am PRETTY SURE reaching Kirkwall after Cassandra and Varric's little talk wouldn't be like it was presented, it was jarring to say the least. A cutscene that shows Carver with you (when I had Bethany survived) was a bit of an eyesore. The quick cuts right to Isabela's little sidequest etc. But I'm sure these are just limitations of the demo itself, and not the final game.

What were the positives? Crystal clear textures, vivid facial animations, smoother movement, voice acting etc. I also love the archery talents (hail of arrows, etc.) and I quite adore the changes to the UI (leveling up a point instantly shows you the benefits) although i wish I could access the inventory system.

I just played the demo, the game looks very promising. I tried all three classes, the rogue is a lot of fun and will be my character to use. The mage is also a powerhouse. I didn't care much for the warrior.

Idk, it just that in the demo It didn't seem the same I was no longer setting up traps getting ready to draw the people in the room into it, while making sure that oil spill is ready for a fireball incase it is needed,  instead it seems like thats not needed or even there  I hope it is, also fireball is not as cool, I miss my morrigans fireball of death , think that the spell I am thinking off anyways it didnt seem the same.
