I'm sorry, but I didn't like the characters. They were either clones of previous BioWare characters or they were just incredibly irritating. That's my feedback, take it for what it is. :/

Hawke, on the other hand, was great.  I love his voice.

Once again, weapons are huge.  Too huge.

Played on PC

Liked:
- Voiced protagonist. Much prefer this style over customizing what is inevitably a voiceless character.

- Faster combat. I was skeptical about this, but ultimately enjoyed it. I just sincerely hope that it gets more difficult for those of us that want a challenge. In Origins, once you had the stats figured out even Nightmare was trivial - the faster paced combat increases the potential for it to be more difficult, so I hope it's capitalized on.

Undecided:
- Dialogue wheel. I love it in Mass Effect and it works great there, but I wasn't convinced in this case. The problem was how contrasting the options were (sincere, humourous and ruthless). You can't really switch back and forth between dialogue tracts without it sounding awkward because of how different each is voiced. A light-hearted quip followed by a solemn "let's press on" felt disjointed. It felt more fluid in Mass Effect because the tone didn't change as drastically between options. Anyway, small sample so far. Curious to see if it works in the full game.

Dislike:
- Aesthetics. Never before have I ever complained about this, but tone down all the plastic surgery. I'm a guy. It's great in moderation, but come on...show some love for athletic (or other...whatever) body types as well.

- Holy cartwheels! I'm sure the "omg did u c that!" crowd love it, but it's a bit over the top. I can't see many devoted Bioware fans appreciating it all that much.

As long as the superficial elements don't overshadow the rest, it looks to be a ton of fun. Looking forward to the full game!

One small problem I noticed that may be fixed in the final build, is that if you're holding down the right mouse button to pan your camera around, if you press a hotkey for an ability it blinks like it should activate but it does not. You need to release RMB before you press the shortcut for it to actually register.

edit; also wasn't exactly super pumped that it seemed to take ages for my sword and shield warrior to do any damage even with abilities, while the mage was able to one shot people with fireballs. Maybe its just a demo thing where you can't customize your gear.

I'm disappointed.

The graphics are meh for me. The people all look like pudding-faced Sims 3 characters. The animation during combat was fast, but jerky, and I could feel the migraine hovering by the time I was done. The rogue backstab actually makes me nauseous. I miss the isometric view, and I really miss the ability to tab to cycle through enemies.

The dialogue system, though, is what I truly dislike. The paraphrased response options mean that in almost every instance, what the character said wasn't what I intended. I'm hoping that once I can customize her in the full game, my Hawke will feel more like "me", but the fully-voiced thing and the dialogue wheel are distancing.

I'm hoping that the full game will be more appealing, but overall, it feels more like Final Fantasy than Dragon Age to me.

Why is everyone who says something negative an idiot? o_O I've read the last pages and this is just annoying.
Anyway, my opinions:

All this jumping and the special moves are really exaggerated. At the beginning I was grinning like an idiot and thinking "Yay! This is great! These moves are so cool!"  ... But after a while I thought "Heck, what am I even DOING there? I jump around, somehow kill the enemy without ever actually hitting him... Then jump again (how is it possible to jump around all the time if you wear armor? And so quickly?) and... oh, yes... jump. And maybe die because my character doesn't do what I order her to do (I guess that's because it's a demo)"
Somehow, the fights are too fast for me. I become relly nervous when I play. Fortunately, there's the spacebar.
Everything is going so fast, I cannot even take a closer look at all these great moves my charakter does. And all these moves become really boring after a while. There are no "special moves" because EVERYTHING you do is really great and... well, special.
And that's what I liked about Origins so much. You did some pretty cool moves with your character while in combat - but you were a guy with a sword, a bow or whatever. No jumping and spinning like crazy. Dragon Age was one of the first games with fighting in it that I liked (it's my favourite game, to be exact XD Big surprise), because I always thought "Fighting? Oh, yeah, I love games where they have inhuman strength, jump higher than trees (xD) and kill the enemies with either a katana or a machine gun. You shoot/stab-kill-kill/whatever and the idiot who insulted you (or just stood there <_<) is dead. Muhahahaha. I'm cool. I > everyone. I can punch a mountain in space. It's even better if the person I kill is an innocent little kid." - but in Dragon Age 1, you were fighting like a normal (well, as normal as someone can be without making it boring xD) human. And it was just GREAT to see your character kill that dragon/ogre/whatever. Now, it's just... An interactive anime show (I'm not talking about the style, I've gotten used to it). I already know that I won't be half as happy to beat an enemy if my character uses these moves all the time.
I mean - why is some guy/gal fleeing Lothering much stronger than the Warden at the end of the game?  (That's what all this kung fu-ninja-space-time monkey-jumping is making me think.)

I like the way the game looks. And since there is a reason (... sort of) it's okay. I don't care that much about the graphics.

My problem is that I don't get the feeling that I'm playing Dragon Age, besides meeting characters with the same name as the people in the first game. I also didn't feel sad at all when Bethany/Carver died. I almost chose the unfriendly answers (I always, ALWAYS play "nice" characters. I have never even said something unfriendly to one of them) when my "mother" blamed me for it. I can't feel sorry for a character that I have known for 5 minutes.
What I also disliked was that I couldn't interact with Varric or Isabela. I had to help her. Great. But we're talking about a demo, so.. yeah xD
I just hope that these things will be different in the actual game ._.

... No, I don't say this just because Dragon Age 2 is different from DA:O. And I still can't wait to play the game - I want to see Anders. xD

(Sorry if this post doesn't make any sense. Stupid ADD (<- I hope it's the correct name o_O) I can't think right now xD I will write this again.. Later. <_<)

BioWare

Why did you "dumb" down the game in every way?

???  I really don't see where it has been "dumbed down".
I see a game with a character improvement system that is more flexible and with more depth, and combat that is 500% more responsive, faster, and more exciting, without any real change to the tactics involved.

???

- No race choices
- The dialoge options are pretty "dumbed" "Nerfed" or whatever you want to call it
- If that was Normal mode on the demo I can't even imagine how Easy mode will be? People failing at the ogre? Didn't even use my mage instead I used that warrior to move around since he bugged and what do you know, they killed the ogre without me interfering..
- The attributes was dumbed down aswell..
- The actuall gameplay hours was shorten and can't even be compared to DAO(which I still believe has little gametime)
- The fights was way to easy and you could autoattack yourself to win, yes that is what I called dumbed down..
- Again the ogres was nothing more then jokes compared to DAO
- Interface/UI

- I don't see how not having a choice in race is "dumbing down".  If they want to tell a story of a specific person, that is how they have to do it.
- The dialogue options MUST be paraphrased because the character actually speaks and the dialogues are long and cinematic, not packaged up little snippets.  There is less text, but the dialogue itself is the opposite of dumbed down.  It also gets rid of the problem I had in DAO with picking a dialogue option that is completely unclear or misleading in it's "tone".
- You killed an ogre easily because "it bugged", and this is somehow a problem with the difficulty level?  Lol wat?
- Attributes are exactly the same.  The only difference is that it tells you what each point is doing for you.  I don't see the problem with this, unless you consider having to look up formulas and whip out your calculator to maximize your DPS an essential part of a good RPG.  If that is the case I'm glad they didn't appeal to your preferences.  Not "dumbed down", just not annoying.
- Gameplay hours are worthless if they're simply filled with very slow combat and fetch quests and running around selling packratted rugs and silver chalises.  I'd rather have a completely entertaining 50 hours than 80 stretched thin.  Not "dumbed down", just focused.
- This is the second time you've harped on difficulty.  Difficulty level matters little to me, frankly.  Dragon Age was not a particularly hard game anyway.  I've autoattacked many things to death in DA, in part because the combat was so horrendously slow-paced that I couldn't do anything except that.  "Dumbed down"?  We'll see, but I care about entertainment, not bragging rights, anyway.
- How is the interface "dumbed down"?  As in, it looks different?  It is more streamlined and easier to use?  Why in the world do people want a game that is clunky and slow to play with arcane, unexplained stats just for their own sake?  It isn't dumbing down, it is just making things less confusing.

What's so frantic about selecting a target and waiting until it's dead (played on the PC so I didn't have to hit A repeatedly, which really sounds too much like whack-a-mole anyway).  The only time I felt like I needed to use any talents is when I wanted to make the incredibily dull combat end sooner.

That's literally how I played through Origins.

seems like pc got it better then because that what kind of ticked me was the constant clicking, besides the downgrade in visuals and story
it was just pointless, I liked it when i could click an enemy see it play out, use some skills, move a party member, back a bit, it was nice slow, and cool, and also a bit panic ish  at times when i ran into trouble and realized I can't escape and that I was going to die.
The only time I felt this in the demo was on the second time with the orge because my party members died but this time the combat system enabled me to avoid death by runing hit and run
Another thing is that I disliked the regenerative health after battles, that , also saddened me.

I enjoyed the PC demo but controls could use some more options. Ability to disable right-click to move and an option to always have the camera behind your character, like it does when holding right mouse button down.

I also have a problem with dialogue from characters talking in-game being much quieter then everything else. Along with cut-scene audio being much louder then everything else. This may just be my computer though.

Just played through on the demo for the 360,thought it was great.
I played as a mage, and my only real issue with it is that when I press 'A' to activate combat and the enemies aren't close enough Hawke does a little animation instead of attacking. The only way to cut off the animation is to move Hawke, but for some reason using a spell will not. I'm not sure if this is an issue for the other classes as well.
And maybe include some kind of icon guide for the dialog. I could tell what most of them were, but there were one or two I wasn't sure about.
Otherwise, I loved it! Keep up the great work Bioware. :wizard:

PC Version:
I enjoyed the demo to an extent. I'm not sure if its just in the demo but I dislike when they make facial expressions and their eyebrow go into their eye...looks weird haha. Anyways, I enjoyed the combat, I LOVE the new skills interface, and the dialogue looks like it will be as fun as before.(Good voice acting on female Hawke by the way..in my opinion)

Although, I do have one question why is flemeth different then she was in the first one? Maybe I'm being completely dense or something but I'd just like to know. :)

Played on PC. I wish I could have downloaded form the Bioware site, but such was not to happen after nine hours of error messages stating the file was corrupt. The mirror site worked quite well.

Overall I thought the demo was wonderful, exactly what a demo should be. Not too much was given away although I would have loved to use the inventory.

Playing as a mage, the cooldown on heal is far too long, I ended up kiting that second ogre around by myself for five minutes with about a tick of health left and no potions. I will say I did like the fact that you can kite quite easily in the game, something I had never done in Origins or Awakening.

The art, music and armor are beautiful! One little bug I did catch was that Aveline's hubby lost his VO early on. I could see his lines with the subtitles but not hear them.

Combat was alot more fluid though AOE spells are a little slow to cast like fireball. I suppose it is something to simply get used to.

I am looking forward to trying out the other classes and the full release of the game. Thanks for offering us this demo for free.

I was extremely disappointed by this demo quite frankly. Having been a huge fan of the first game, I was really excited for DA:2 but having played this I don't think I'll be wasting my 60 bucks. I tried warrior found that the combat was more or less clicking my mouse button over and over again on different enemies and pressing 1-5 whenever a skill recharged. That might have been OK (DA:O didn't exactly have the greatest combat ever anyway) if the rest of the game hadn't been so bad in every other respect as well. The graphics and landscape don't look nearly as good as origins did (running both on very high settings) and the environment in general just seems very lackluster and uninspired. I thought maybe it was just because the beginning was set in the blight and other environments would be more interesting. That was quickly proven wrong when I got to Kirkwall and it was just as boring. The scale seems tuned down an absurd amount when compared to origins environment-wise, and a lot less polished. Maybe it's just because it was the demo and the finished product will be better, I suppose we can only hope. The character development aspects might as well be non-existent. Since your skilltrees are determined by level, and only 1 skillpoint is needed to completely round out a skill, and you get 1 skill per level, your choices are more or less predetermined. IE at level 3, 1 skill becomes open to me as warrior, I have 1 skill point, I place that skillpoint in said skill, rinse and repeat. You can choose between skilltrees, yes, but that's the difference between 2-3 choices in this game compared to 10 - 15 in origins and it appears to only affect you at higher levels. The characters seem some what generic, but it's hard to get a real grasp on them from a demo, hopefully that aspect wasn't completely ruined. Also how did Flemeth, old, wise, and mysterious witch of the wilds become Flemeth, somewhat mysterious prostitute? Seriously guys, that outfit looks like it would be far less out-of-place on a street corner, it doesn't say powerful and intimidating, it says ****. And how did Flemeth change so rapidly between Origins and this game when they're literally set in the same time period? Must have really been working out behind my warden's back to get that body, and worn frumpy clothes to hide it from me. Sneaky devil. So basically nice job on ruining the atmosphere you had in the first game, ruining the decent character development you had in the first game, destroying the interesting look of environments you had in the first game, and still getting people to eat this **** like it's a meal descended from 'the maker' himself. Worst part (or best part for you, bioware) is that the reviews for this game are going to be 9.0's and higher. I think reviewers forgot what rpg's were somewhere in the middle of mass effect 2. I feel as if you know you made an awful game, but you also know that it doesn't matter at this point because people will still buy whatever you make and call it GOTY even if you just decided to re-release Superman 64 and put your brand name on it. Sellouts.

It scares the living bleep out of me to see all the console users be happy and some very well formulated PC users stream in with disappointed comments. I will test the demo in a few days likely but the feedback I just got from a friend of mine almost makes me feel certain this game is dead for people who appreciate more than a hand hold button mashing game =/

edit: One thing I will mention is my disgust about the amount of DLC at launch.. 20+ is just spitting the fans who spend money buying the full game on that very release date, its a disgusting signal to send to a fan base.

I like how when you actualy try to sneak up on your enemy and stand behind him, backstab makes your character teleport to face him so you backstab him in the face.

Downloaded the Demo for PS3 and plan to get the game for PS3 as well.

My thoughts on the game. At times it lagged but not so much as DAO does on my PC. I kind of like the new graphics bit more colorful, blood splatter is meh looks a bit Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Still looks great though. Love the characters, and what is the greatest thing of all is having Hawke voiced! Guy did a good job. Will see how well he does in the full game. I played Warrior since it is my style and loved it! Went Sword/Shield after the start of the game more my style and wow, you can fly across the screen and bash darkspawn in the face before they get a moment to attack you. Sword/Shield though has the downfall of the lowest attack compared to other classes/types. With the loss of attack though you can't be hurt unless you have an archer on you since they hurt like crazy!!!!!

I can not wait for Dragon Age 2!!!

The demo was great, and I am really looking forward to the end product. However, regardless of other graphics settings (this was happening even when I reduced all my settings to their lowest possible), I found I was frequently having "Loading..." popping up between transfers between action, dialogue and FMV. This is extremely jarring at some places, like when it popped up right in the middle of Cassandra/Varric dialogue or when the game transitions from the FMV of Flemeth burning darkspawn to talking. Oddly, my computer is able to otherwise play the game at the highest graphics level possible without stutter.

As for actual gameplay, I enjoyed it very much, although I found it to be too easy in places. I am sure difficulty levels will alleviate this somewhat, although it would have been nice to have the ability in the demo so I could know for sure.

I didn't really get why they locked the inventory in the demo, and using the starter weapons was dumb.

But my biggest gripe, and it's stupid I get it, is the female Hawke's running and walking animations. They just looked so unnatural. It actually brought me out of the game. It's weird, but that's what I was thinking.

Yes Fhawk walk is wierd, I dought anyone also notes this.
That will be serious talk if anyone notes!!

And If you ask me about wich I prefer the bulking of origen to DA2 walk, give me ORIGEN please, I am sure anyone could mimic Origen walk/run and not one will point and laugh NOW go out and walk as Fhawk I dare you! :pinched:

Then is the eyes from Isabella and Casandra.. but I have said this one too many times, the improvement are not were to be seen, and am not talking about stupid combat, am talking about walking, talking, Voices.. :(

The graphics are good, but I can't enable a lot of visual effects in the demo so it's understandable why I can use mods to make Dragon Age Origins to look better than Dragon Age 2. The lip syncing is remarkable, quite possibly the best I've ever seen.

I noticed that when the Hurlocks run at you they look twitchy, maybe it's just me, maybe a glitch? Hawke also doesn't look as powerful or fearsome as advertised, but I guess that's okay since we'll be able to change the character's appearance to our liking.

The game play was satisfying, but not what I expected. It still follows the "right click and allow my character to attack" formula, and I'm still able to throw in special abilities during an attack. I appreciate that style of play but when I heard real-time combat, at the very least I expected well, real-time combat.

As cool as the combat looks, I never feel like I'm doing the damage I appear to be doing. At least as a Warrior. How many times do I have to violently hack and slash my enemy before they die?

Difficulty not being selectable was also a bit frustrating. I was never particularly good at Dragon Age and would always have preferred to play on Easy. In DA2, I died when fighting the second Ogre. I don't understand why the difficulty option was disabled in the demo.

I'm also unable to overlook the battlefield in a Diablo II-esque fashion as with the previous game. That was one of my favorite parts of DAO, it reminds me of the classics. I really wish that hadn't been taken out.

Music and atmosphere were great as ever. Though a few cutscenes didn't seem to... blend correctly.

The main reason I anticipated this game so much is because it was advertised as being the next generation of one of my favorite RPG's with a real-time combat system.  I would have bought it (or planned to buy it) if this had been so.

I'm not going to criticize the developers for many of their choices, it's a hard challenge to tackle since they have such a variation of players to tend to.

I'm just going to wait for Mass Effect 3, I know that it will probably end up being the best game ever created. Keep up the awesome work Bioware!

I knew there were some drastic changes coming but I was still surprised when I played the PS3 demo today. Whether it is a change for the better, I cannot say. But I do enjoy the changes. The old feeling you get from playing Dragon Age is still there and the story seems to be just as enveloping. I have to say though, I might just end missing the DA:O combat of old. However, that certainly wont stop me from enjoying DA2. I just wish there other racial choices for Hawke.
