Crossposting from NeoGaf:
My
PC impressions are these (note: I loved DA:O, never finished
Awakening, my only real complaint was the story was boring and
uninteresting as per usual Bioware style, and the major complaint with
DA was the fights were tedious and the game wasn't even hard)
Graphics: Set to the max it allows on DX11 (my card only supports
dx10.1) on "high" with forced AA to max and forced AF to max in my ATI
panel on the latest drivers. The game looks like crap, compared to other
games lately. Sure, the technical aspect of it is better than DA:A
which seems to run at 30fps at max, but the art design is awful. This
whole "HOT RODDED" art style is for the birds. Flemith
looks stupid and sexualized, the enemies now look like the Putty Patrol
from Power Rangers in both design and utility. Hopefully the graphics
will be improved but uh, look at this crap right here:

That is so jarring, low res pants with high res tops (reasonably
anyways). I hope it's just him and not that suit in particular if you
can obtain it, otherwise I won't wear it period.
Also Aveline and Varric while running tend to ice skate, and once you
notice it's really hard to not see it anymore. This happens because the
running animation is slower than the actual movement speed based on the
animation. At least running up stairs slows you down! I really hate all
the angular designs and think it's totally unnecessary when they had a
perfectly fine style before. The animations as well strike me as weak
and "over the top" because they strike so fast and with so much
unnecessary flourish, so I hope someone makes a mod that cuts the speed
in half. Also I feel the UI could be less "console oriented." My
complaint with ME2 (since this obviously where DA2 takes most of it's
design liberties, at least w/r/t the UI) was it didn't support proper
KB/M interaction (mouse wheel, enter button, etc) whereas DA had all
these, and only the PC version of ME
1 from Demiurge Studios did.
Music: More of the same from DA:O, which I felt was the weakest link. Forgettable and plain.
Sound: Overall good, with some complaints like the plinky stab sounds and poor mastering (low voices and loud explosions)
Gameplay: Okay here's the important part. There is more mobility with
casting spells and moving around in combat than there was before in DA,
this I like a lot. I like that things are still auto attack, though I
wish (because of the swarm of enemies) there was a button to start
attacking the nearest target so I don't have to pause, stop, select, and
unpause to attack because of how fast everyone's moving. I like that
the animations are
not indicative of the actual gameplay, it's
just visual fluff. You're not actually playing an action-rpg (GOOD. I
didn't want DA to be that) or Dynasty Warriors, it just looks that way.
This is something I feel couldn't be properly conveyed with videos or
screenshots, and I feel that is probably why the game starts off as you
being overpowered as it is. They're probably trying to appeal to those
who thought the game on the consoles was too awkward and plodding (I
never played it on anything but the PC, same with ME2) by making it
absurd instead, however I consider the "trash mobs explode in a sea of
blood by swinging your sword in the general direction of them" to be
egregious. There was one situation I liked that, and it was when Walking
Bomb proc'd. Even after Varric's exaggeration, enemies were still this
way. The demo is stuck at Normal, and while I played DA:O on normal and
thought it was easy, this on normal is even easier. In fact, I think the
difficulty is artificially inflated by not allowing you to equip any
items you pick up and the fact that playing a mage, you're forced to
dump a point into creation in order to heal, since one party member
(Depending on the class you choose) dies
right at the start. This is only really because you have no equips and
you might as well be wearing clothes and punching it with your bare
fists. That being said, that wasn't even that hard, just improper
planning. I'm sure other classes will be easier to start for the
aforementioned spoiler. Also the other complaint I had about DA:O being
too tedious? Well, there's even more trash mobs this time around. You
can't customize your party member's armor (why?) and so far NPC
interaction is pretty flat and characters all deliver their lines with
barely any emotion and it's all very anticlimactic. While this is to be
expected from Bioware, I hope there is tons more interaction that isn't
delivered so flatly. Tactics need to be worked on (by setting them),
because the (default set) AI is still really stupid.
Overall Impression:I'm actually satisfied. I saw the videos and pictures (or the lack
thereof on bioware's part) and really thought I was going to hate it.
Once I tried it out for myself I noticed it was pretty much DA:O in
everything but awful art and animation decisions. It's not as bad as
they marketed it to be, but I can tell that even with the choice of
voicing the PC (I prefer unvoiced, this allows me to pretend I'm playing
myself, rather than controlling the actions of someone else) I'm going
to enjoy this overall.
I hope this was informative and neutral enough of a review of the demo for anyone who's still waiting
