Mr. Priestly,
I installed the Demo twice and both times the installer said the file(d3dx9_43.dll) is missing. Any idea where the file went? J

Sure some of the 'depth' and features from the first game have been taken or changed but it'll be better because of this and it will be a great game.

Interface graphics are bad. I mean it looks like one of those open source games with couple of developers paying no attention to gui at all.
I didn't get how the dialog is managed. I chose something and the guy says something else.
I don't get why level-up button is at the same place as quit or save. I don't get why to see the description of a spell you have to click many times to go deep into menus.
I don't even mention constant A button hitting. I got bored twice and closed the game because of it.
Overall I like to thank Bioware to launch this demo. It saved me of buying this game.
I miss Baldur's Gate 2.....

I feel a bit better about the game after watching this:

Seems like the whole game is much better, with regions with more details. I think that the choice region for the demo was wrong because it only showed environments that lacked details and the demo was too linear.
I have mixed feelings about it. While it gives me more hope for enviromnet versatility it also, clearly shows that Bioware has taken away one of the most important features of a true RPG, character customization/inventory management. This is extremely disappointing.
Varric the dwarf is stuck with his crossbow and will use no other weapon. It is also said that each character is limited with armor they can wear, etc. No more universal armor. Basically you'll have to come across "Varric armor" in the game.
Also, it doesn't even seem as though you can give just anybody a ranged weapon. Essentially, your fighter can only perform melee attacks. If you notice in the demo, there is no archery tree. There are also no skill sets; looks like crafting is out too. I may be wrong as the demo may be limited but it seems to me that Bioware has simplified this game too much; to a serious fault. Just as they did with Mass Effect 2; great combat improvements but they ruined the core basics of a good RPG.

Overall, I liked the demo. Regardless of which class I played, combat felt very active as opposed to the active mage/passive warrior or rogue of DA:O. Particularly, I loved how archery played, and how neatly the Evade skill tied into it, I may just go through as an archer rogue before my traditional mage because of that. Most of all, I loved the ability to try out the class improvements before I get the game on March 8th.
One thing I didn't like was having entire talent trees blocked off. It really would've been nice to be able to experiment with with different builds within the demo beyond weapon style and healer vs. damage mage. Lightning magic sounded exciting, but I didn't get to play with Primal spells at all. Also, not being able to access the inventory. The demo is limited enough by its brevity, clamping those restrictions on as well felt kind of like overkill.
Still, the demo got me excited about the game, and I learned how the different classes played, so it was a success in that respect.

The game looks flat. Not a lot of details on the character models.
I hope that they release a toolkit so that gamers can give the NPC's a much needed Makeover. Have you seen the Dragon Age Redesigned mod? That guy knows how to paint NPC's. You need to get him on payroll.
So far the game seems to have fallen flat on many areas. Releasing the toolkit would allow the players to take off where Bioware has fallen flat.
You are a big fan of the word "flat", aren't you?
I really think that the problem has to do with the opening locale more than the style or graphical prowess of the engine.

two things though,
first it seemed that my team was rather... fragile... after varric began telling the truth (though that might just be me)
and second, when playing a female mage, after the transition to kirkwall i found that my staff was invisible. it was still doing normal damage and the combat animations were the same (which made it look like i was just blasting fire out of my hands). the staff still appeared to be equiped in the inventory screen however.
overall though, i loved it. cant wait =D

I love how ridiculously critical people are being of what is obviously an extremely gimped version of the full game. Way to be people. Way to be.
I love how ridiculously apologetic people are for Bioware. First it was pre-alpha screenshots, then beta gameplay videos, on and on and on.
Here's a little lesson on how the world works: If they didn't expect/want criticism and reaction, they wouldn't have put this stuff out there. I refuse to give this thing a pass based on the possibility that the full game may be marginally better. I judge what's put in front of me.
Then apparently you must think the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" holds no water at all. Different situation, I know, but still. The real problem I have with somne of the critisism is too many people put their opinions out there as fact. And I hate when people post something like "Beat the demo, cancelled my pre-order". And then don't say anything else.
If you are going to bother saying you aren't buying the game you should atleast say why.
Also, the arguement that being faster is less tactical is ridiculous. Just because the animations play out faster, doesn't mean that there are less tactics.

I enjoyed it but it doesn't feel like Dragon Age. For a second I forgot I was playing Dragon Age and was shocked when they started talking about the Maker and the Grey Wardens. Regarding visuals, I'm disappointed with Aveline and Isabela. They both have very masculine faces and Isabela's outfit is a little ridiculous. Not a fan of her giant bubble ass either. Even the Templars armor is watered down.
The consolitis is prevalent. I'm sure the full product will have a solid story but it will be like watching a great movie, not playing a great game. The technical issues will hold it back just like Mass Effect. Modding support is going to be a must if this game is to stand the test of time because I know Bioware won't get around to fixing all the little issues and the visuals certainly won't be refined at this point.
Don't blame consoles for the fact the game is gimped combat wise. It's nothing to do with consoles, it's more likely EA wanting Bioware to put something out for more casual gamers so they make more money, and Bioware listening.

All the ridiculous flourishes and the sound effects are a little too hack and slash for me. When your character used a broadsword or a battle axe in Origins it looked and sounded like they were weilding something heavy. First impressions are that the combat is much less engaging than Origins'. Too fast and not realistic enough. There is a danger that a player's suspension of disbelief will be shattered every time they go into combat which, for a story driven RPG, is not good.
The excessive speed also meant that I rarely knew where my allies were unless I paused the game. Playing this as an action RPG, I felt much less in control and aware of what was going on that I was in Origins. It was just button mashing.
Played both the demo and Origins on an Xbox360.

I really liked every aspect of the improved UI. It's very clean, clear, and beautiful. The game feels very polished, much more than any other Bioware game. It makes the game overall MUCH more enjoyable.
I actually found myself pausing and micromanaging a LOT more than I did in DAO. It was more fun, and felt more effective, like there was a lot of cool and useful stuff to do. I didn't do it because I had to, but because it was fun.
The best thing, IMO, was the pacing. In DAO, there would be hours of nothing but wandering/fighting, and then hours of nothing but wandering/talking. It's nice to see the gameplay and story paced together better. Hawke's "origin" put the origins of DAO to shame. I hope all of DA2 is so well paced.
Also, I really like the new dialogue. It doesn't feel like I'm removed from the game everytime there's dialogue, like it all meshes together, and I feel like Hawke is a real part of the game that has an effect, whereas cutting to my silent, blank Warden was a real immersion breaker, especially what with characters reacting the same regardless of what I said for the most part.

3) Isabela's boobs are REALLY BIG. Too big I think. But that may just be me.
Hahahaha! Yeah, she is a very.. um.. "buxom" woman.
I am vassillating between thinking she is silly-looking and falling in love with her. I'll probably do the latter.
Besides, Planescape: Torment did this times 10, and that didn't seem to blunt anyone's enjoyment of the game.

Other than that I think this was a great demo and I anticipate the release of the full game (though it will take some time to adjust to the shift away from the traditional d20 attribute system).

It certainly does, but a lot of the faults I've seen listed strike me more as "this isn't origins waaaaah" in tone.TrackerTrem wrote...

yes but like REALLY fragile (particulary when playing a warrior for no apparrent reason). plus the lack of health potions gets annoying. i never actually had a game over, but i came really close a few times with the ogre.

I don't have the fastest gaming reflexes on the block, so the increased combat speed may prove problematic for me, but that's what "pause" is for. I'll admit that I'd have been perfectly happy with the exact same gameplay and interface the original game had, but I don't see anything that breaks the Dragon Age world for me so far. Glad I've pre-ordered, and looking forward to the real thing. Meanwhile, I'll spend some more time trying out other character classes in the demo.
The only thing I'm going to truly miss, I think, is the isometric camera view. And it's probably too late to ask for that ...
