It certainly does, but a lot of the faults I've seen listed strike me more as "this isn't origins waaaaah" in tone.

My thoughts exactly. Too many people have poles up their rears about the fact that, gasp, It's not the exact same game as Origins? What a crime!.

Just finished it on the PC. Liked the combat. Great VA. I think the characters will be good. Graphics were simply ok but not awful. The loading... was annoying. I assume the cutscene every 30 seconds is just for the demo.

Couldn't really get into the story, of course. The story is what really propells you through Bioware games, regardless of everything else. So everything else seems good and I trust the story will be great so I'm looking forward to the game. Not my most anticipated game of this year and this demo didn't change that but I think it will be a good time.

Re: Flemeth I was not sure it possible for Kate to turn in a better performance there but damn.

I especially like her responses to your snarkier comments.

I might point out that you couldn't "say what you want" in DAO or in any other RPG, either.
There has never, ever been an RPG where I didn't feel like I couldn't say what I really wanted to say.  Furthermore, in DAO you never actually said ANYTHING.  It was implied that you said what you clicked on, but I sometimes found myself getting reactions from people that made it seem as if I had said something in a totally different way than I had intended.  This, IMO, just as jarring as not saying the exact words that are being clicked upon (which is impossible to do in a cinematic styled conversation with a lot of dialogue anyway).

My problem is that the paraphrases often seemed to be dramatically different from what was actually said. The most glaring example was choosing the "Charming" response (and I had no idea what the diamond meant" after Carver died and instead of being vaugely comforting, it was snarky.

I like my silent PC, because then I get to imagine for myself what she sounds like and how she delivers a line, and it can be completely different for different characters. When my female Tabris tells Cailan "I killed an arl's son for raping my friend," in my head, I hear that as sweet, and almost chirpy, because she's incredibly sarcastic. I like being able to fill in the blanks myself.

Just finished the demo on PC. Really fun! The only thing was the new camera was a little difficult to use. At the end of fight scenes, no matter where I had it set, it would pull back to the maximum, leaving me looking at the ground just when I wanted to look around and explore. I wish it pulled back a tad further in combat, though. Sometimes it felt like it was hard to see.

Is there a reason they don't want us to be able to read the text? Why have it at all if it is going to be so small?

Having just played through the demo, isn't the demo a little too short? Believe you had 3 maybe 4 different conversations and 2 semi-boss fights I guess that really didn't require any input from the player at all to complete them. Also why are you including equipment pickups in looting if your just going to disable the ability for us to change the equipment on the character for the demo, I believe I had a gauntlet and a belt and some other armor type item I picked up while looting various things which was probably a complete waste of time considering you don't get to spend any of the currency you pick up and don't use any of the items you get either aside from the ability to use health potions not that they are needed in this demo.

Still do not see how the 'Hawke' family fits into Lothering, you would think that a family with people as strong as them would have had at least 1 member you'd run into in Dragon Age Origins (Demo taking place right after Ostagar during their attack on Lothering). Also Isabelle in this version is WAY younger than she was in Dragon Age Origins which is odd considering the timeline.

On the plus side of things, the visuals were nice and I also liked the ability to customize your skillsets with shorter cooldowns/increased damage seemed to be more of skill options that way. And also liked the 2-handed weapons ability to hit multiple targets at the same time, havn't played through with weapon+shield yet to see if there is a similar effect for them with the weapon slashing but will see tomorrow.

Finished a PC playthrough as a S+B warrior. My impressions, starting with the good:

- Lady Hawke moves like a lady! Hurrah! And her default face is gorgeous. Yes, this warrants mentioning.
- The main protagonist has actual facial expressions now. Hurrah again! (Also noticed more expressiveness in the NPCs during conversation, which is just as nice.)
- Much more informative character attributes screen and abilities descriptions. Thank you for that.
- Love the new combat animations. The action feels faster, but battles take me more or less the same amount of time to finish as in DA:O. I'm very pleased.
- One of the new features in DA2 I was most looking forward to seeing  was the conversation tracker, and I'm delighted by how it "remembers" your Hawke's dominant tone. This will add definite replay value for me, since I love hunting out different dialogues across playthroughs.
- I like the new mini-map. Less in-your-way but still informative.
- Some of these armor re-designs are very nice looking, especially warrior Hawke's armor just out of Lothering (not the exaggeration sequence). I hope we see more variety of armors in the full game, too, and not just re-colors.

And now the not so good:

- I miss the old Darkspawn look. The new paler ones aren't as... frightening? Or perhaps I just need to get used to them, we'll see.
- I also miss how tab-ing during combat in DA:O would conveniently show you the names and health of all enemies in the area so you could quickly make a combat decision. It's a little more work to determine that in the demo, especially if my enemies are still buried inside the flames from Bethany's fireball.
- A minor point, but I'd like to be able to mouse over a character portrait and see their health and stamina/mana totals at the same time, rather than having to mouse over the two bars separately.
- While I admit that conversations play out with a more "cinematic" feel in the demo - and less of the dull camera switch routine prevalent in DA:O - they're still not quite up to ME2's quality. Or is the juicy stuff in the rest of the game? Don't get me wrong, I like the improvement, I just think there's room for more improvement. (But isn't there always? *ducks flying fruit*)

Overall, I'm very happy with the new stuff. I can't wait to get my pre-order. :)

EDIT: Started a rogue playthrough and remembered a few other (good) things:
- Sustained abilities going invisible once combat ends so you're not lit up like a Christmas tree during conversations is good.
- Codex rehaul is very good.
- Nonlinear talent trees are yay.

Trying killing off your party and finishing the ogre with only your mage in the "real" story line.  That was fun.  :pinched:

I'm thinking that I agree with you on several of your viewpoints. I really liked the time I spent moving armour around and trying to figure out the best options for each individual character. I also spent a lot of time "building my party to the way that I wanted them". So, again, your right concerning the "more RPG" involving those choices. I also want them. I mentioned in a previous post a couple of things you mentioned and am having some misgivings about being wowed over the graphics and combat speed. But, I'm thinking that we are going to be screwed concerning those choices.

Played the PC version as a rogue, which will be my class for my 1st playthrough. I wanted dual wielding warror but with that gone I have to go with rogue, I was unsure though about the class as one of the main reasons I didn't play rogue in the 1st game was having to position for backstab, which seems rather tedious. But the backstab ability takes care of that.

I played as a fem Hawke. I really like her voice so I'm tempted to play as a female in the full game, but I think I'll save that for my second playthrough.

Also had the cutscene volume issue that has been mentioned.

On the whole I enjoyed the demo. Graphics are a big improvement over DA:O (used the config set everything to max + dx11); heat distortion, cloud shadows, skin textures greatly improved and lighting thumbs up. Download and installation was fast easy and with zero issues (can't speak for others that was my experience). Frame rate was smooth, no lag occassional small pause for CS, and I mean small.

Combat:
Rogues are greatly improved, well done.
Two hander for early levels is actually fun to play (no more I think I can. slow motion attacks)
Enjoying the Mage and it will be my first play through.
Combat over all is well done guys loving it.
Once I maped the thumb button for attack closest combat was very fast.

NPCs Love Flemeth and Isabella (glad you designed these 2 this way, their perfect B))... all npcs are actually well done so far. Lady Hwake's voice is very enjoyable as is the male's, good VO... actually prefer them both over ME M/F (personal preference again). Voiced protaganist for the win, so much more enjoyable.
Dark Spawn just don't do much for me visually (well the cannon fooder that I have seen so far anyway). Ogre however is a definite improvement.

Playing the demo, unlike others, I have had no problems with the sound... 2 crashes 1 early and the other late in the demo (but considering I am using the dx 11 AA8 times at max settings, that was bound to be a given).

Tactics seemed to be slimed down, not a fan of that descision and they were a little bugged.

Enjoyed the demo totally, but one thing does stick out, the lack of emotion over the 2 early deaths..,  in the VO and the CSs themselves (Bethany and Aveline maybe the only exceptions +/-). Not a jarring experience, however they are noticable. Story can't comment on it yet, way to early with very few spoilers in the demo if any, so I will wait (yet, what I have heard has been well done).

I don't know about you guys, but I truly enjoyed the demo. I was playing the demo on the PS3 and the problems that I came across in my play through is that sometimes my companions would run off in certain directions and sometimes melee characters would not allow me to perform an ability because it stopped targeting its current enemy. I have to attack the enemy again and then use the ability which I found is pretty lame. Perhaps the biggest downer I found when I played the demo is the fact that there is only one difficulty. I was excited to play the demo in nightmare only to find out its fixed on normal. Of course it was just a demo, but I really wanted to play DA2 on nightmare :(

The biggest change that BioWare added to gameplay for console that excites me is the move on the radial menu. I loved the fact that I can finally move all my range units close to my tank, move on high ground, or even move out of AoE without having to personally move them myself. Remember those awkward boss battles in origins where you try to position your characters to the most efficient location? Well, it's fixed now! It may not seem much to you guys here, but that move option is just so awesome and convenient! Aside from having to spam X at all times, this feels like DA I know and love.

Can't wait for the retail!

And the combat may be faster but it's not more refined like DA:Origins was

Haha.. "refined" is not the word I'd have chosen for DAO combat.
"Clunky", maybe.  Or "frustrating", "slow", or "uninvolving".  When it takes my character 2-4 seconds to react to what I want him to do, or I spend a good chunk of time just watching them do the same autoattack animation over and over, it makes me feel less involved in combat.  I mean, I loved a lot of things about DAO, but for me combat was mostly just an opportunity to take cool screenshots of my characters.

Well, the voiced protagonist isn't that bad. Origins was a little weird in how Grey Warden could somehow communicate (sort of) complex ideas and statements with an intimidating blank stare while everyone else around him was voice acted.

Personally I also preferred the more realistic art style of Origins whereas a lot of stuff in the demo seemed overblown. Animations seemed like they were meant to be at a particular speed but then someone came along and said combat was too slow and so everything got put on fast forward and now everyone moves all jittery during a fight (the darkspawn charging into battle looked especially ridiculous).

The combats rely way too much on reinforcements coming out of thin air. What's the point of tactical positioning, scouting, pulling etc. when the enemies you initially encounter are just 1/3 of what you have to really fight. When it comes down to it...the encounters look more like they're going to be all about trial and error and a matter of knowing when/where the reinforcements pop so you have the right cooldowns available to drop on them.

Granted, the demo was fixed on faceroll difficulty so this wasn't a real problem but harder modes in the full game will probably be frustrating purely for the fact that you have to replay an encounter because you positioned your mage on a reinforcement point and 4 bad guys came out of nowhere in the middle of the fight to kill him/her right away.

Interface is worse than Origins, and the compromises done for the sake of console play are most obvious here.

Really, I found it rather telling that the scene they decided to skip ahead to and showcase in the demo revolved around a busty woman with no pants on who had some line about coming to her room for some 'company' later (you know, when you buy the full game). Looks like an attempt at trying to capture the Xbox360 dudebro market there. Who knows if they'll bother putting Black Ops down to play this but I'm sure that's what EA hopes for.

But whatever, I'm sure the ultimate edition that comes out a year later with all the DLCs will be worth buying but I've got enough on my gaming plate that I can pass up the initial release.

Well, Hawke and sibling are fresh from fleeing the disaster at Ostagar and the rest of the family consists basically of apostate mages or people who shelter apostates. Not too surprising that you'd never cross paths.

Because the lack of tactical combat in a Bioware game is solely based on it not being Origins. ME1 & 2 have better pause and play tactical combat.

What I think is a lot of people need to get over wanting more of the same. Bioware good job at keeping it fresh, just don't make a half a** expsansion to awesome game like you did with "awakening".

I don't recall saying that all potential faults one may have with the game are that way, but okay.
For the record I found the PC version to still have quite a bit of tactical combat, especially as a rogue.

Are bioware big fans of Avatar: The last airbender? cause i could swear my mage was Aang reincarnated. And no that's not a good thing, Aang doesn't really fit into the dragon age world.

The consolification of games are just ruining game after game now and it's getting sad, what happened to the developers? did you guys suddenly turn into 13 year old japanese game developers? over-sized weapons, over the top animations, silicon ******, "fast pace visceral combat" etc.

The voice acting is completely different depending on which type of response you pick making it seem like your character is schizofrenic if you don't pick the same type of response every time, there's no longer any role-playing involved since you'll have to stick to the same type of response throughout the game making it pretty much into a jrpg.

I'll end here even if i could keep complaining for a lot longer, i haven't slept so this is probably barely comprehensible anyway.

Do you understand they asked for feedback?  Why are you getting so defensive?  People did not like the demo for legitimate reasons.
