Finally played the PC demo. Oh my god, is it better. With the console version I didn't for one second feel like I was playing a Dragon Age game. Now I do. For everyone complaining, if you played the console version and hated it, give the PC version a try. If you played the PC version and hated it, well, I can't help you.

But this was awesome. I still have the same gripes: weak voice acting, barren environments, laughably linear level design, awkward animation (running and facial animations), but other than those things I liked it. Keeping track of the characters in combat was much easier, and since you don't have to fight the controls the gameplay feels much better. Oh, and pausing rocks, too.

Play the PC version. You'll have a much better time.

You've tried to make the same point 3 times now, we get it: you like frenetic, choppy-choppy,  mind-numbing ninja fights.  Okay.  Good for you.

Tactical means planned, anticipated, fore-thought, all of which is incredibly hard when the action on-screen is an uninteligible blur.

Not really watch some of the vids made by the devs. If anything combat seems to be more tactical with positioning being more important because in DA2 you can actually move into position rather than shuffling.

I'll concede that it's a preference issue, but nothing else.  I find the kung-fu movie acrobatic pace extremely annoying.

People are saying mage is overpowered?  OMG archery... definitely the way to go with rogue.  I don't think I could play a DW rogue to be honest, despite it being my 2nd favorite class after mage in Origins.  The ADHD animations gave me a headache.  The attack speed with Momentum was plenty fast enough.  The neon arrows in Rain of Arrows- a bit much, too.  As much as I love the change in mage class, not so hyped on the other two.

I had thought to try 2H warrior, but egad what a slog.  You think you'd do more damage with that bigass sword.  The ogre was taking so long I Esc'ed out and called it a night.  Looks like I'll be leaving warrior class for the NPCs again.

I really miss the iso camera.

I love that Taunt is a whistle now.   And the icon for it is hilarious.

I think Aveline might be too much woman for Hawke.  The devs were doing Garrett a favor by making her non-romanceable.  And, my PC was feeling a little inadequate.

She lunges while throwing her shield back and leaving herself completely open. This could conceivably be to defend from a rear attack but she does it all the time when she is fighting a single opponent to the front. This may seem picky but I can hardly bear to watch her repeatedly demonstrate that she has no idea of the purpose of a shield

Ironically she only does this while adopting the defensive stance.

Got this missing DLL problem. Resolved with installing DirectX again. Now the game crashes right after character creation (well, name change only in demo, right?). So, up to crash, I love it. I'm interested in the story and the game has awesome graphics and good fight mechanics.

I guess it sucks for people who are stuck getting this for the consoles if they would have prefered a more pause and issue command style forcing them to being a softcore player.

Just some quick things about what I liked and disliked about the demo.

Likes - Everything! (apart from some few things). Now I'm just going to pick out some things I really liked in the demo.

For me the combat in the demo was much better than Origins for all classes. I enjoyed playing every class this time. I hated Warriors and Rogues in Origins even though they are my favourite.

I liked the quick movement between enemys not the slow shuffling in Origins.

I also liked the UI much more and the skill trees.

Those are only a very small amount of the things I liked about the demo.

Dislikes - While playing the game I got around one second pauses everytime the protagonist or other characters talked. The demo crashed a few times too when I first started the play it. Also there were some annoying loading times before scenes.

Hopefully these issues I had are only related to the demo and will not be in the full version of Dragon Age 2.

Overall I LOVED it and I can't wait for Dragon Age 2!

In my opinion the graphics in games don't matter a lot to me. The main things I liked about games is the content and the skills and others things you can do.

Nobody can really deny that the combat mechanics have noticeably changed to a more fast paced hack/slash button mash rather than a tactical playstyle. Now alot of players seem to prefer this, and that's perfectly fine. But understandably, there's also players who are dissapointed considering this series - which is suppose to be the spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate - seems to be moving away from those mechanics.

The problem with this ridiculous ninja monkey drugged up on drugs combat is not just whether or not it makes the combat less strategic, it just ruins the immersion completely. Is this in some alternate universe from DA:O? i mean suddenly even Flemeth turned into some anime cliché.

WTF are you talking about. The demo was nothing if not consolized. Pause-and-play gameplay was the essence of DA:O.

Liked almost everything about it. Played through and my main gripe is feeling the need to spam "attack" all the time. I can appreciate the feature for the mage or rogue (helps manage hate generation), but for a warrior, it's tedious, especially in big fights. Once upon I time I hated the "auto-attack" feature in MMORPGs, but I feel like now this "attack" spamming is just something to aggravate that old "Nintendo thumb" from my youth. Manual attack makes sense for something with ammunition, but a melee weapon just means you're going to sit there hit hit "x, x, x, x, x" throwing in the occasional combat ability, because if you're not spamming that, you're not doing maximum damage.

Love the melee rush you do when your target is just out of range.

Visually the game looks amazing. Not a huge fan of the menu graphics, but that's a minor gripe. I keep hitting "select" to bring up the character/quest screen only to find the map. That'll just take some getting used to. Start menu felt very Mass Effect-y.

Like the character models. Still recognizable for the most part as Dragon Age, but improved.

Voice acting feels a little hit or miss, but this is just a small sampling of a much larger pool, so I'm not to concerned about it.

This attack thing has me re-thinking my warrior choice though...

I think the biggest issue I had with the combat was that because so many enemies were surrounding Hawke, I literally had to run in, attack, then run around the stage for like 5 minutes, then attack again. That's not good gameplay to me.

I didn't notice that, that does make it even sillier.

All in all, the PC demo was pretty good. I did not like how you turned the Korcari Wilds into the turgid brown lands of Mordor, that was kinda wierd. It was swampy woodland in Dragon Age Origins, why did you need to change it? The lack of continuity was pretty rubbish there.

In addition to that, the Darkspawn look ****ty as hell. Why did you change them!? They are now just pure comedy, and remind me of the Puttys in Power Rangers when I was a kid. Pretty dissapointing there.

Flemeth however, is totally awesome, and really steals the show. Good job to Kate Mulgrew on putting some effort in to her lines, which apparently everyone else forgot to do. Bethany/Carver/Aveline are all pretty drab voicework, no real emotion, just straight deliveries. That could have been a whole lot better.

On the mage I selected Elemental weapons. It looked like garbage compared to DAO. The spell don't have a good feel to em. The choices int he trees are really small. For what is show it doesn't look like the lvl cap will be that high. I hope the trees are exspanded in future DLC & or some more specializations (besides the locked ones).

I think the big epic intro scene is actually kind of a bad introduction to some classes since there is no proper Tank unless it's you.

What's a spiritual successor?

is a successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work as do most traditional prequels or sequels, but nevertheless features many of the same elements.

I keep reading that Dragon Age II is supposed to be the spiritual successor, but people are wrong. Dragon Age: Origins was supposed to be a socalled spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2. Dragon Age II is its own thing based on the Dragon Age universe.

I really enjoyed the demo (PC). I can't wait for the full version. Isabelle = Super Hot.

I don't understand the button mashing that people are complaing about. My character had an autoattack.

Also if your having trouble reading the text get a HD TV. Games on the 360 are HD and don't show up well on Standard TV's (not so standard anymore). I found this out shortly after the 360 came out.

First playthrough was a Male Warrior, Two-Handed. Even on Medium Graphics, it looked great to me, but I'm not at all picky about graphics. I really like the combat; the dialogue wheel...will take some getting used to. I agree with the people that say it would have been better to have exactly what the character says in the dialog selections. Really, that's the only thing I disliked about the demo. Didn't make my computer go all hot the way Origins does. I think playing the demo will tide me over until March 8th rolls around, as I've yet to play Rogue, Mage, or Female, and at one point the game logged me out so I didn't get the Hayder's Razor.

Great taste of what's to come.  ^_^  Loved it, will probably end up playing it to death, lol.

Haha, I love the people who say "Blasphemy! it's faster so it's less tactical". No, that is no correct at all. If anything its more tactical due to how frenetic the combat can be. Thing's aren't moving at snail-pace like in DAO, so you really have to have an idea of what you are doing, and what you are going to do next.

Also, anyone arguing the combat was more "Refined" in Origins, apparently we didn't play the same game. You mean the clunky, laggy, often unresponsive combat in Origins was refined? Please.

So yes, by definition, fast-paced frenzied combat with pointless vapor-trails for blade swings and everything else make it much more dificult for tactical style gameplay, and much less enjoyable for those of us who prefer it.

Please.

It's exactly the same, just faster. Pause, click, pause click, problem solved.
