But there is something wrong with this game and it starts right at char selection where we find 3 male and 3 female Hawkes. Is this "new audience" people, that EA selected as priority target, so lazy that they cannot even decide which class and gender they want to play without having them all displaying in the same screen? It is not like Diablo 2 where you have all 5 classes avatars displaying but they all look different. It is the same model x3 FCOL!
Some Video Games are used to estimulate brain activity, even for people with some sort of disability like an Cerebrovascular Accident. But this game feels aimed to make all look like they had one big stroke!

Also like i said before, the scenery and background visuals are nothing to call home about. I feel like im playing a stale dungeon crawler. When i played DAO for the first time and i was inside the mages tower, i felt like i was in that world, all the characters around me interacted with me in some way. I felt like there was so much going on just at one time. I really made the world seem alot more alive to me.
Of course i am not permanently trashing this game just yet. I still have the real game on pre order and im going to wait and see if all of these things were just dumbed down in the demo like an incomplete patch or something. FF XIII did the same thing before the real game came out.
The only pro's i can give is the

What little dialogue there is in the demo I quite enjoyed, although the voice acting isn't perfect, it wasn't bad. Not much emotion in the faces though.
Does the dwarf telling the story have a horn fixation? Even Flemmeth has horns of a sort now.. why? Doesn't look good.
Huge fan of all your previous games (except Jade Empires, which wasn't too bad but nothig special.. and the NWN single player campaign which was awful), this will be the first one I don't buy, as I know it will have lots of combat and I just can't sit through any more of that, I was dying for the demo to end after the first playthrough.
Sorry.

With the ATI 5750 1GB, the game runs great and slightly even more fluid than DA:O. But DX11 cuts the frames to about half and unplayable. But the effects are nice!
I enjoy all the InfEng games and i like the combat in DA2 as well. Nicely different. Same goes for the UI though it will take time getting used to all the changes. LOVE the atmosphere and think we are all in for a great time this March...
Thanks again Bioware!

Overall Ambivalent, The demo hasn't quashed any of my concerns that I first felt about DA2 when I heard they were changing it,
I have to say the combat looks alot more unrealistic now, and while its a game it feels way too fast paced and just crazystuffs for someone to be able to swing a Two Handed Claymore THAT FAST.
Going to have to get used to the new interface, first impressions mixed again! will have to use it more to be able to come up with a solid opinion, however the new skill trees are intriguing.
The land seemed pretty grey and bleak compared to Origins, but I guess they were running through the blight. the city looks interesting.
Characters: Intrigued, but Isabella reaaaaallly put me off her. I hope she doesn't force herself on you in this manner in the full game! especially the end bit! But this is personal opinion X) Hopefully there are more choices to tell her to shove off >:3
Either way! I Pre ordered the Signature Edition and I'm not going to cancel it, that would be rather pointless at this juncture and wait and see.
But I still think it feels comparable to a certain other game made by bioware I am not at liberty to mention!

Demo doesn't work for me. I got a d3dx9_43.dll missing from my computer error. What? Oh yeah, a d3dx9_43.dll, I'll just go to the store and get one. I was going to preorder but now I think I'll wait.

I had the same problem. You can find out how to fix that in the link above. Very simple to do.

Check the tech support thread for help. I had the same error. All you need to do is update DirectX and reboot your computer.

Combat moves felt more engaging than in the first game, but hehe yes, stupid when the enemy was very close and the Rogue jumps high in the air to get to the target.

It's not a problem with the DA2 demo. I had the same problem. It's caused by DirectX9 not installing properly. Just search for the .dll file on the internet and download it. Use the program on: http://www.microsoft...6a-9b6652cd92a3 to update your directx and the game will run fine.

This is just like ME1 where you would use a power and then walk to the next engagement only to find out that your powers are still cooling down.
Again I love this game, but if the cooldowns could go down I bit I'd be even more happy.

Okay Bioware i love everything about the demo except some of the cooldowns on a few of the powers. In the first game combat was slower and the cooldown for heal was 5sec. In DA2 the combat is a lot faster which means you take damage faster, but the cooldown for heal is now 60 seconds?!

Get the game on PC and there be mods to change the time of cooldowns

Have to agree here. After watching this uk.gamespot.com/shows/now-playing/, the lack of Isometric view starts to make more sense. It's a shame they can't give PC users that tiny bit of extra control, you know considering we have a mouse 'n' all. Perhaps even the option to plug in my xbox controler and have that fancy wheel and do away with the mouse would be nice ...wait, what am I saying lol

TLDR Summary: Fears confirmed. Plays like poor imitation of Origins. Dumbed down experience for the masses. 7-8/10.
I didn't even bother to finish the demo yet last night 'cause I felt so disappointed by the initial impression. The combat was boring as hell because you just clicked an enemy, watched it go down and clicked the next one. I actually went through a few battles without even touching the controls and came out just fine...
Right now I'm seriously considering about cancelling my pre-order of the Signature Edition, THAT'S how disappointed I am. But I'm going to give the demo a proper spin tonight to re-evaluate the situation.

Really loved this demo! Was most curious to see 1) PC Performance, and 2) The overall atmosphere.

There's a sticky in the Demo Tech Support section, IIRC, saying that Dx11 has issues with the Demo and should not be used. It's fixed for the release version, as per the same announcement.
There was also a bug thread for the PC version which I can't find so I'll vent it here:
No Hot Key to call Options Menu (Esc) doesn't work and in the small icones it says just () for the hotkey. And there is no where to set it in the Key Binding menu as well.
Tactics are horrible. I cannot set even one right. If I chose health 90% and won't let me choose "drink a potion" so I gave up trying to setup tactics after about 100 attempts in a few runs thru the Demo.
And the "Finishing Moves"... OMG! I can't believe that some people will say that it is better now than it was in Origins. The Ogre killing finishing move was the very first thing that made me wish to start recording vids of DA:O and I know that a huge part of the 1,400,000 viewers of my DA:O vids just love those finishing moves!
I don't think DA2 will come even close to get the same amazing reviews as Origins got.

I played through the demo as both a mage and a rogue, and here are my thoughts:
PROS:
- The Art style - I LOVE the new style! The enviroments and (especially) the atmospheres look gorgeous, and the characters look great. I especially look forward to seeing it at higher graphics settings.
- Gameplay - While I am not a fan all of the new gameplay, (I'm not used to the new interface), as whole I feel it is an improvment from Origins. I loved being able to dodge and manuver as a rogue and feel more combative as a mage.
- Attributes - I like that what you upgrade is more clearly defined
- Looting - this may seem unimportant, but I like the new chest design. There, I SAID IT.
- Convo Wheel - While initially I disliked the new convo wheel, (I'm one of those people that likes the old RPG feel), I think it fits with the direction the series is heading in and overall it gives the game an interesting added level of depth with the intent.
- Friendship/Rivarly - While I didn't see much of it in the demo, I saw that there are passive abilities based on wheter your party members are friends or rivals, and this has me excited for other possibilities.
- Movement - I love how the characters move now, no more shuffeling!
- I know that this will be fixed in the full version, but still I must say (whine) that I was very dissapointed about being stuck at medium settings for the graphics. And I hope that having the game at higher settings gets rid of some of the ugly problems, like FemHawke's hair going in and out of her neck oddly, Isabella's eyelids looking like clumpy blocks, and the clothing textures looking rather poor.
- Tactics - I was very frustated during the battle with the second ogre that whenever I tried to have Carver or Aveline use a health potion, (by pausing, switching to them, and clicking quick heal), it would show that they were going to use it, but then they would neglet my order and beginning attacking again. I'm not sure if this is user errror, or what.
- Story - Yes, I know that the demo was barely a snippet of the story, but still I felt no attatchment to the characters. I like the charaters, (because I have read about them), but from the demo by itself I felt like I was watching a movie that I didn't care about. I didn't feel immersed in a story at all, and that intro felt stale. I felt thrust into a situation, and was not really given an opprotunity to empathize with any of the characters. I didn't care that their home was destoryed, or that one of the siblings dies. The only character I felt a little for was Aveline, but still. I really hope the intro is different in the full version.
- NO GRIFFONS!
(I kid.)

Kudos also to the new animations in the cinamatics. The previous game didn't show people interacting with objects other than in the Joining and that animation didn't go down well with me.
Kudos to the awesome graphics! It's great. I also love the new interface and how the Mass Effect dialouge wheel is used. It's a nice change though I can't tell if it's a good change or not since I'm used to both types of dialouge options.
Though I do like the camera movements and all the different shots and angles of what's going on, the PC version seems to be slow. Slow by which I mean choppy and annoying. Everytime the camera changes or whenever I pick a new thing for Hawke to say, it takes about 2-5 seconds to load the next interaction. It's strange since when I played it on the PS3, this didn't happen at all.
So my concern is that when I finally start to play the game on March 8th, it's going to be slow and choppy and I won't have any idea how to fix it.

Maybe it was the lack of an isometric view or something but I felt that I couldn't get a proper sense of what was happening in the battle. Felt like I was playing a RTS game with a very bad view of the actual combat.

So fans should not care about quality then?
That is kinda sad.
No whats sad is these so-called fans here not really giving this game a chance not really. So hyped one moment and then whining the next when the game or the demo does't meet there expectations. There were things that I did't like about the demo but I've played worse. say Fall Out 3 ,Fall Out NV, Final Fantasy XIII ,Mind Hacks or whatever u call it, to name a few.
