This game represents everything that is wrong with rpgs. The game is going so fast that I don't even have time to consider the emotion. Is my character sad about having to be swinging a sword? . I don't know, he's doing it too fast! The fact bioware has to make games for more than pc-users ruins
everything It's the final nail in the coffin that rpgs are spinning in their graves and I officially renounce games forever because of this half-hour demo.

Really though, the game seems fantastic, magnificient improvement. I hated playing anything beside a mage in the first game, and this time 'round I actually had more fun playing the rogue. I love how distinct the fighting styles are now. Rogues used to just be lesser warriors who you needed around to open chests, now they're excellent single-person killers whose fragility makes them interesting (the need to dart in and out of battle is perfectly built in). Warriors used to be useful, and cool looking, but sort of boring to play -- this has been improved as well now that they lie more distinct from rogues, and they are more about attacking multiple-opponents and tanking. Mages seemed a little less fun, to be honest, but I  think that is because I am so accustomed to individual spells being at max power (e.g. crushing prison in DA1 > un-leveled crushing prison in DA2, fireball doesn't seem to have that same KA-BOOM feel). It also might be because I am so used to mages being so good at crowd control, and in this game that duty is more evenly split among the classes. Overall, it's a major improvement though.

Not just classes, but individual characters are more distinct in their fighting now! Each character has unique talents, abilities, and weapon that really give them a characteristic combative personality. In DA1 most characters of a given class seemed pretty interchangable from a combat standpoint, it doesn't look like that will be the case any more!

The story and characters really shine through. Soon as Varric starts talking to his capturs in that tone, you get an excellent feel for his smarmy and facetious personality. When Aveline is introduced you instantly see both sides of her personality from her delivery of that one line, something like "I won't let you take him"; first said in anger while violently killing a darkspawn, and then said sweetly to her husband. It's obvious she is a very protective character; good choice for the main shield user! You could even get a feel from that brief starting bit that the Hawke mother had favoritism for the future-champion over Carver (when addressing Carver, shes always made unfavorable comparisons to his "big brother"), and sure enough he is pretty far into the "rival" side. Every little action beautifully displays the well fleshed-out characters; it's impressive and highly immersive.

Of course the game is far better stylistically. The fonts are well chosen, I love the framed narrative, and everything looks very uniform and distinct in presentation. Also really impressive was the sudden fast-paced narration once the encounter with Flemeth was over: it was a very quick "time has just passed, here's what has happened" thing that fits the streamlining of the game, and I just love the way the waves looked and the way they present the city. I bet I am going to look forward to those cut-scenes in the full game.

There were a few faults, of course: 1) Seeing the revamped Flemeth really made me realize how little this game looks like the original (stylistically), which is rather jarring. I have doubts as to how well I will take to other characters looking so different. 2) Much like in ME1 and ME2, the male Hawke voice actor doesn't seem nearly as good as the female. And then the female voice actor sounds very Orlaisian to me (and I am not big into the lore). 3) I wish they'd have reassured me with more indepth choice options somewhere during the demo. It felt like I wasn't making any choices the whole demo, and I also felt like the dialogue I thought I chose and what my character actually said were far too different. Even worse than forcing me to have fewer choices is when two different "choices", cause my character and everyone else to do the exact same thing. Though it was a fun demo, it really only demonstrated story and combat; still I am still confident that there will be plenty of choices to make in DA2 though.

Overall: I am extremely frightened that this game comes out a week before finals :D

So... I gave up wading through 750 + word posts while trying to find an answer to my question -_-

Some assistance please? Can anyone finally confirm if completing the demo unlocks the item across all platforms?

I played this demo on PS3 and it took over 1 hour to download with one of fastest broadbands in country. I hated the demo and feel let down by Bioware and EA over DAO and cost downloads and release dates for downloads. I felt that the developers just like fighting for fighting sake and feel that it does not seem like a real RPG where you need to think as well as fight! The Graphics are good, but hated the combat system, magic system and general over experience of the demo I thought was bad. I am sorry if you disagree but I will not be getting this game and I am sure there will be a lot of PS3 owners will not because what happen to us with DAO...

Well I can't speak for other PS3 owners, but I'll be buying a copy. I loved the demo - this looks to be a brilliant game. Great job Bioware. There are some bugs that need to be looked at - but I have faith in the finished product.

Well....For a game that got so many accolades,  why have they totally revamped its UI and feel?  As some have said it feels more like Street Fighter, an arcade game.  The animation is too fast, and furious..no one could maintain that rate and go through so many mobs in such a short time without collapsing from exhaustion.

I enjoyed DA:O immensely, and played many times through wether it will occur with DA2 is in doubt...I have preordered and hope there will be a vast improvement in the environment graphics when it is released.  I also hope that they did not reduce this aspect in order to increase the action rate or frame rate.

I'll reserve judgement til official release,  Should it remain as it is, I won't be buying any more of this franchise.

Seems like people are complaining way to much over a demo. It's a demo for god's sake, not like their gonna show you the full content of the game and I highly doubt the story line is going to progress that quickly. I have yet to ever really play a bioware game that has been a disappointment, so I for one will be picking up the game. Also I'm pretty sure the choices later in game are going to have a more direct impact then the ones in the demo, so quit complaining before you actually finish the retail version.

While I can see why some people aren't liking it. I actually enjoyed the hell out of it. I think the combat is a nice change of pace. Still need to try out the warrior and mage, but I feel it will be good enough for me. Main gripe i have is the placment of the other group members status bards...I was rather fond of where they were in the prior one but neh you can't always get the good changes without some bad ones.
I don't understand why people are complaining about the feel of the character's emotion and what not...it's just a demo and the main purpose of a demo is to get some free advertisement so they need to show a large portion of the system and to do this you don't get to experience the full potential of a  game...a prologue and a part of a mission later on isn't much to go on character emotion/involvement. Like six places or so of choosing what to say is really going to give you a feel for that....sigh at some people

To me that's something that develops as you play longer and longer...not right off the bat. Granted I will say it seems like it might be a little harder to establish a connection with the main char due to the cut's in his life story, but only time will tell if that is true or not. The story still has my attention though even with that.
Anyways for those who care, I think the demo was good, combat rocked, story has potential with the way it's handled, and all that's left is to see the final release and see if they fail on the shock factor.

Sorry for the harsh criticism. But that is how I feel.

Actually, from the polls we've had, very few have such a negative reaction. Most are very positive.

I don't get Orlesian/French in the female Hawke voice at all; her accent isn't as crisp as mother's (aka Eleanor Cousland), but it definitely sounds English with a bit of a 'commoner' drawl. If that really is Corinne Kempa (Leliana from DA:O), as some have theorised, she's done a fantastic job of the accent and changing her speaking tones.

Also, I wanted to mention I complained about having to enter the ESC menu to level up; someone suggested going into the character sheet, which was helpful and less of a hassle than having to click through a menu option. Double-clicking the character portrait seems to work as well, although it seemed a little buggy at one point, where it'd go to any character but the one that needed to level, heh. I believe the tutorial suggests the ESC menu, which I think should be modified to send the player into the character sheet instead, as it's more direct and less fuss with menus.

Darkendivine:

You stated:  1 - Are you mentally handicap?

I think you meant to ask me if I was "mentally handicapped".  My question to you is, “Are you educated?”

You stated:  2 - You do REALIZE its a demo. How can they pack all the relationships and RPG in a DEMO. Should a demo be 40 hours long with an indepth story and character development? WTF?

Okay - having read many of the comments following my initial post, I may have jumped the proverbial gun on judgement a bit.  However my comments were not aimed at a lack of NPC interactions and relationships with the PC. I realize this just a 1 hour playable demo. Thanks for pointing that out to me, by the way. My comments were aimed at the technical format and play format of DA II. Clicking on an NPC doesn't enter you into conversation with that NPC, like it did in DAO. Instead, it initiates a one line repetitive response from the NPC. When they occur, conversation choices appear to be limited to 1. A touchy-feely response. 2. A jesting/somewhat aloof response, or 3. An I don't give a crap, get over it and let's kill something response.  Just from what I have seen, it seems obvious to me the role playing aspect of this game will be severely limited.  The demo felt like playing Street Fighter with some mini-movie conversations thrown in . . . conversations I had very little or no control over.

You stated:  Yes they catered to consoles because consoles is the gaming platform. PC is a thing of the past and won't ever dominate again. Sorry to get that through your head.

Really?  There's more than a million people who purchased and played Dragon Age Origins on their PCs that will be sad to hear that.  I'm guessing you're a marketing expert as well as an english teacher.

As I stated above, I may have rushed to judgement on DAII.  All I can do now is wait for the release and see if Bioware proves me wrong.  I really hope they do.

VERY disappointing demo!

Massive download that gives next to zero gameplay but lots of movies.

Only plus point for me was it proves my system will play DA2 IF i decide to buy.

Not nearly enough in the demo to make that a given.

My 11 yr old completed the demo as a mage and didnt die - his words were " looks cool but is that it?"

Really?  Based on what? You can do essentially nothing in the demo. If the demo was designed to entice people to buy, it fails badly. I think most origins players will eventually buy as a matter of course but I doubt the demo would encourage anyone to buy based on what they can do within it.

Surely a demo should show what can be done in the actual game - change armor for the stuff you pick up? NOPE
Weapons? NOPE, even 1 change of look for a character? NOPE make a choice that offers a different result? NOPE Ah but you can change your characters name. You can follow 1 path only click some buttons that even allows my 11 yr old to win first try and watch lots and lots of cutscenes.

A near 2Gig download that does NOTHING to demonstrate what could be a very good game. It does show some pretty movies though.

DA:O was one of the games that actually played with your emotions throughout the whole game. Very disappointed with the demo. Making the combat system too fast just to create a balance between a pc and a console was a very weak strategy and a risky step EA & Bioware took.

Maybe it's just me but I would of loved an upgrade like awakening from origins. New talents, new specializations, weapons, worlds but of course with much more depth and devotion. But to actually change the game play as a whole? I just don't get it.
