Thanks everyone. We've filed a bug internally and are investigating. In the meantime, based on this thread, it sounds like this is tied to attempting to run under maxed out settings and with DirectX 11. Can you confirm whether or not you're able to play one you reduce your settings?
Thanks for your patience.
I tried it. It'll load fine when I run under Direct X 9 on Medium graphics quality. If I set it to Direct X 11 on High Graphics prior to starting, it crashes as soon as I load. The only way I can play at higher graphics is to start on Direct X 9, and then change the settings after starting a new game on the demo. Then it runs fine.

Well, over here it works only when AA is disabled. Complete noncense with a €350,- gpu ofcourse but it seems to work.
When I enabled AA it crashed, all settings the same but AA disabled -> works.
Will try running as admin now.. Getting really good at killing in insane tempo
Same problem for me, and same solution. Running Windows 7 64-bit.

I ran DA2 as an administrator and disabled v-sync, anti-aliasing, and all the higher graphics extras (but am still running on medium) and it hasn't crashed since then, but the "loading" still shows up a lot during dialogue, which is still quite laggy.

also the movement of your charachter makes it look very consoleish almost like hero is "floating" over the ground not solidly on the earth.
i guess if your a console kiddie its "awesome dooode" but as a pc gamer i expect way more, visually at least.
need physics, yeh

on high with aa off dx 9 everything fine now finished demo. pretyy good but im wondering if there are any physics in the game at all? why do enemies explode when hit with a sword? no cutting of limbs or heads rolling, just a messy puff of goo. kinda un detailed and cheap if you ask me. pretty unrealistic as well, they coulda done much better.

However, I would think Bioware would of figured this out if this is happening to a lot of people sooner before the game's release, as they are one of the greatest and most reliable video game companies in my perspective.
I'm also upset over the cutscene loading time, is that just because it's the demo? I hope not. Why does it keep crashing at the character customization screen though? Hmm....it can't just be the video settings, as it could be anything.

- crashes repeatedly and seemingly randomly (inability to save is an added annoyance as a result)
- has to load virtually every new piece of spoken dialogue or cut scene animation causing delays of a 1 to 2 seconds
I'm running it in DX9 mode at medium. C2D E6600 @ 3ghz, 4GB RAM, 1GB AMD 5770.
I suppose I could disable AA and lower details but to be honest that defeats the point of bothering to play the demo - I wanted to get a good idea of what the game will look and preform like.
Whilst I appreciate that the variation in PC hardware and software makes performance hard to predict and bugs hard to eliminate this demo is pretty poor in this regard. It's a bad advert for the game - but then you don't need me to tell you that.

What an incredible disappointment. Sure, the gameplay was fun, but am I going to be limited to "medium settings" when I can play any other game on the highest settings usually?
Though I have little intention to purchase the full game (a little strapped on cash for games), I feel that unless these problems with the cutscenes and crashes is corrected, the longevity of this game's success will be limited. That's a shame, because Bioware is a god-like game company.
I liked Dragon Age I, it had a great story, and didn't suffer too terribly from crashes and glitches (at least, on my PC), and though I'm a Mass Effect fan more or less, I love medieval RPGs. Why should any of us have to pay $50 for a mostly broken game. I hope Bioware fixes this, I really hope they do...as this game has so much promise to continue the Dragon Age series.

it is while it is not, DX11 works the same as DX10 in basic terms, but offers more advanced post processing etc, figuratively speaking it's much more developmental

Ok I have: C2D E8400 , Win7 64Bit, 4 Gigs of memory , GTX 460 card. Tried to run high detail game without AA. Very low fps, and glitches on ground. Barelly could move camera.
Then i tested it with Medium detail and AA disabled. All run smootly and its enjoyable.
Choose the render path of Direct x 9 and you will be able to play on Very High detail.
I like the absolute certainty of your statement there, but it, sadly, isn't true for me at least. Nothing I've tried (updating drivers, changing from DX9 to DX11 and vice versa, running at lowest settings, and the rest) has worked so far. This is the first game/demo that I've installed under Win7 that hasn't just worked.
At least I now understand how other people have felt when they haven't been able to get a game to work and I have...
Have you tried updating your C++ runtime libraries? Sometimes it works, especially if a dev is using code that hasn't been shipped or updated by your OS.

Yep, and I'll add why can't I have high settings for DX 9 too. OK Tessellation is out and some forms of rendering algorithms that are bound to certain DX versions. But DX 9.c on a high end card should also have high res textures, POM, particle effects and smooth shadows: its perfectly capable of doing these things. I'm not overly impressed with being forcibly locked into lower settings when I know full well what my GPU can do.
