Going to try for the third time to hope for a crash after killing the troll, but not too hopeful. Just killed it twice and both times I crashed right after. Just read about not having directx 11 up, so hopefully that fixes my problem. Didn't read all 11 pages, but seems to have a few crashes in this game still. Hopefully it works next week.

Had a crash after you click "Start Game" in the (mostly locked) character customization window.

I wonder, why does the game require DX11 for high settings?

Isn't DX10 and 11 almost identical except for a few differences?

Yep, and I'll add why can't I have high settings for DX 9 too.  OK Tessellation is out and some forms of rendering algorithms that are bound to certain DX versions.  But DX 9.c on a high end card should also have high res textures, POM, particle effects and smooth shadows: its perfectly capable of doing these things.  I'm not overly impressed with being forcibly locked into lower settings when I know full well what my GPU can do.

Exactly, why do we have to have DX11 to use higest settings? We all have salvos of other games that can run and look better without DX11 not even on thier higest settings.  I'm suprised Bioware would lock that in that way. So that means, only the people with Win7 and a good video card can play. I have a good card, but not Win7, only Vista. Bioware and/or EA needs to correct this beofore or very soon after their release if they want to see more people purchase the game and play. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

You guys are reading too much into it...I am sure the High (DX10) settings are great.  If you look at what they turn on with the "Highest" option, it's just DX11 features.  I think you are splitting hairs.

Just tried the demo about 5 times with several setup suggestions (dx 11 on/off; lowering the quality etc.) And it keeps crashing at random points. The last one, was while setting-up my team tatics.

What`s goin on?

I mean C'mon, for a demo, Bioware is making a compelling statement of foreseeing headaches we are about to have when/if we purchase the game! And yes, the game rocks and I will buy it, but only if they solve this issue.

Conspiracy/

It's an economic accelerator.  Only put your best effort into high end cards so that people will upgrade.  Falsely provide the impression that DX 9.c is incapable of offering great graphics and limit eye candy to support that plan.

Game stalls on loading just as I hit the character customization screen.

I am unable to click 'start' because it is not available to me. I see all the options though.

This is on my PS3 - completely up to date system.

It works fine on my 360.

Well I don't agree that we're splitting hairs.  It's more the case that we are familiar with the DX API and its capabilities.  What DX 11 players are being offered can be similarly rendered using different algorithms in DX 9.c.  There are differences in performance and aesthetic etc etc but the argument is valid.  DX 9.c is capable of far more than what is being delivered.  Limiting graphic settings using arbitrary rules is unfair and borders on cartel behaviour.

Almost crying here T-T

(i'm joking, but I'm really desperate)

My game crashes mostly between the encounter with Aveline and the fight against the ogre. It shuts down the computer, and then it reboots. The sad thing is that the same occurs with DA:O, but I managed to bypass the crash setting the CPU affinity only to one core, but I can't do the same with this demo, I don't know why.

I'll be eternally grateful for any help. Here's a Windows 7 32 bit and Nvidia GForce 9800 GT.

*edit

I've almost tried pretty much everything that was already suggested in this thread.

Same Crash after Character Customization. Went through the movies and after the "Now I'll tell you what really happened..." Tried three times. Started with Medium settings at 1600x900, then I switched to Low settings, but it still appeared like it was in High settings. Animation and movie cutscenes were breathtaking. No lag. No stuttering. Using DirectX 9, not 11.

Good response to that Glaucon. But in essence, the game looks the same on all settings almost, at least medium and high. It just feels too simplfied setting wise anyway. Also, is it just me, or all the textures on clothing/armor dreadful? Sure, Bioware has had slighlty poor textures on NPC clothing and other objects in other games, but it looks something enlarged an already small texture which then becomes very blurry.

Does anyone else see that as I do?

It crashes right after the character customization

Latest drivers as well, for both mage and warrior so far

Same here, twice in a row.  male warrior and male rogue.  Game looks and plays amazing, but this is a brutal dealbreaker.  Windows 7.  Alienware rig less than 6 months old.  All drivers current and installed DirectX in order to get the missing d3dx9_43.dll error to go away and make the game playable.  I'm not going to tweak every setting in the config to get a demo to work.  Hopefully this is fixed in retail version.

"Cartel" behavior??  Seriously?  Dude, that's funny.  A bit extreme, but funny.  How do you know what they limited and what they didnt?  And if they did...that's unfair according to who's rules?

Since I don't seem to be getting any attention in the thread, I'll try here too:

My game essentially "crashes" every time I try to load it up, because I can't even get into the game proper because I get a PhysX initialization error that I can't seem to get around no matter what I try. Full details of the problem through this thread ---> http://social.biowar...50178/2#6190841

ANY new insight or official help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Based on the limited details you provided, I will suggest reinstalling your graphics drivers.  I am assuming you have an Nvidia card?  If you install the latest driver package from them, it should install the latest PhysX driver as it is a proprietary Nvidia component.

Hi,

If you check over in the thread I provided, it has a lot more details, included my system specs and the steps I've tried to alleviate the issue. (An no, I have a Radeon card, as do other people with the issue).

Safely to say, all my efforts to — uninstall/reinstall the game, uninstall/reinstall display drivers (several different versions of them as well), uninstall/reinstall PhysX (different versions also), give full permissions for access to registry keys for both keys concerning PhysX and the Dragon Age 2 demo, trying to swap PhysX .dlls with other versions out of the bin_ship folder, attempting to run the game as an Administrator, running the game in safe mode, attempting to run the game as an Administrator in safe mode — have all been futile. Nothing I have been able to do has solved the problem or even given a different result besides the same "Error initializing PhysX" message over and over and over again.

It's come to the point where tonight I'm planning to install Windows 7 on a separate drive and install the demo on there to see if that helps.

Mine crashed several times in the same places where you all have mentioned (character creation) and to be honest, I almost gave up. However, I was able to fool around with the settings a bit (directX 11 on) and it appears to work fine now.

Still, one would think that a "demo" would be rather polished and help to advertise the quality of the game. For BioWare, I assume this may have been a PR nightmare.
