Runs fantastic in DX11 though, no issues.

Bioware said DX11 will not work in the demo but AudioCGlive just wrote that it only worked for them running DX11, not DX9.
I'm running Win Home Premium 7 64bit, Intel Core i7-960 3.2 GHz, ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB, 12 GB RAM. Why can't my souped-up PC run this demo when my friend's old PC can?

Game stalls on loading just as I hit the character customization screen.
I am unable to click 'start' because it is not available to me. I see all the options though.
This is on my PS3 - completely up to date system.
It works fine on my 360.
I've had the same problem. Twice, I've just waited long enough and it seemed to self-correct. I don't know if I waited long enough the other two times when I gave up and rebooted my PS3.

first of, I needed to fix the d3dx9_43.dll issue
I then ran the dx setup in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age 2 Demo\\redist\\DirectX (to update any files)
used the the DA2 demo configuration utility to force settings to
8X AA
DX11
very high setting
Win 7 64 bit
Sapphire Toxic HD 5850
Vsync on
zero crashes
sound, I use headphones, so I used the force stereo sound
Video driver used AMD 11-2_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl latest drivers

1st setup:
Laptop
Core i7 720QM / GTX 480M / 8GB RAM / Intel Postville SSD / 1920x1080 / GeForce 266.58 / Win7 64
2nd setup:
Desktop
Core i7 965 / GTX 580 / 12GB RAM @ 1600 CL7 / 2x Intel X25-E SSD @ RAID-0 / 2560x1600 + 1920x1200 + 1680x1050 / GeForce 266.58 / Win7 64
In neither cases was I able to play with DirectX 11 @ high (lowering the AA/AF/resolution made a difference, but it was still unplayable). That happened mainly because, apart from the low FPS, I had many artifacts on the ground textures, really messy.
Lowering to medium however, made the game run smoothly, even with AA@8x and AF@16x.
I really have no problem changing to a Sandy Bridge system, overclocking it @ ~5.0 GHz and getting a 2nd GTX 580, but it is really "ridiculous" to have so much power only to enable the advanced lighting, soft shadows & particles and the tessalation in Dragon Age 2!
Not even a heavy modded Crysis would need so much power @ Full HD resolution...
---
Anyway, the game looks fun and I will certainly get the Signature/Collector's Edition. I kinda dislike the Mass Effect dialog system in a Dragon Age game, but I'll get used to it.
Fix the performance issues and I'll be happy
(could they only be nVIDIA oriented...?)

Strange thing is, each crash occurred later in the game, so I guess if I'll be hard enough, I'll finally do it
I wonder why they decided to remove save/load from game. It wouldn't be a lot of help to get through the demo - it's so easy anyway, but it would help tremendously if we were able to start from some saved point after crash.
Specs:
Win 7 Pro 64, i7 720qm, 8GB, ATI FirePro 7740 (yeah I know it's not officially supported, but when I see all the people writing here about the same crashes and having supported cards, should I even care?)

Thanks everyone. We've filed a bug internally and are investigating. In the meantime, based on this thread, it sounds like this is tied to attempting to run under maxed out settings and with DirectX 11. Can you confirm whether or not you're able to play one you reduce your settings?
Thanks for your patience.
Actually I didn't have crushes when running DX11, only when running DX9 (I used 9 because 11 was terribly lagging).

I just today upgraded to a Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 to have Directx 11. I was running at High, V-Sync on and then off.
I had not run the Directx Setup and did have some issues. Specifically that on the trail for the Ogre fight I got knocked to desktop out of the full screen mode. This happened a few times but by quickly clicking on the icon on the task bar I was able to get back into the game. Audio never was interrupted despite visually being knocked to desktop. As I said, I tried V-Sync both ways.
I have run the DX Setup and will have another go at it.

I've played through the demo several times now, so I decided to mess with the setting some more.
I raised the resolution to 1920 by 1200 and set it to DX 11 instead of 9 and set the detail level to high.
It wouldn't run, I left the resolution at the same setting and went back to DX 9 which set detail levels back to medium and it ran through the demo start to finishing again.
