Ok I have: C2D E8400 , Win7 64Bit, 4 Gigs of memory , GTX 460 card. Tried to run high detail game without AA. Very low fps, and glitches on ground. Barelly could move camera.

Then i tested it with Medium detail and AA disabled. All run smootly and its enjoyable.

I was having problems until I chose the render path of Direct X 9.

I hope it helps someone.

I turned off Anisotropic Filtering (I know I killed the term).

Choose the render path of Direct x 9 and you will be able to play on Very High detail.

This is ridiculous, how did it get through Q&A?
I've tried Warrior & Rogue, Medium & Low settings, DX9 & DX11 and a combo of them all yet it crashes when I press start game at the Charachter Creator every time...
I have Win7 x64, ATi 5870 1GB, 8GB RAM so it should be able to cope with it...
I'll try the other suggestions here but its a bit annoying, at least I'm not too far into the game!

UPDATE: Lowering the resolution doesn't help... next suggestion :bandit:

UPDATE 2: Runing as Administrator didn't solve the crash problem at the Char Creator screen... more ideas...

It might be something relatet di video driver, catalyst has been upadated the 15th of February, and speaking with a friend via xboxlive he told me the game confinguration has set up the right setting for his videocard, while mine was not recognized, after analysis the setup suggested me 800x600, windowed, low detail, and having a radeon 5850 these setting are wrong. Still the fact that the game could not dedect my hardware made me think to a driver related issue.

I like the absolute certainty of your statement there, but it, sadly, isn't true for me at least. Nothing I've tried (updating drivers, changing from DX9 to DX11 and vice versa, running at lowest settings, and the rest) has worked so far. This is the first game/demo that I've installed under Win7 that hasn't just worked.

At least I now understand how other people have felt when they haven't been able to get a game to work and I have...

Actually, now that you mention it, I had the same setup suggested for me... only with a ATI Radeon 6850.

I keep crashing after the first few fights after the tutorial (my longest run went until I met the templar and his wife) :/

Here's what weird though. First time I ran the game I had the 263.09 drivers. I was able to select DX11 & Very High graphics + rest maxed out). (Having a GTX 580, I figured it could handle it).

Turns out the FPS was going crazy like 9fps, then 60, back to 10, 20 etc. Mostly below 30 during any fights.

So I get the 266.54 drivers and bam, runs at 60fps ALL the time! (Using vSync + triple buffer). Only thing is that the graphic quality reverted back to High and now *very high* is greyed out !?!   Also, even though DX11 *is* selected, the game is running in DX9 mode (using Precision to confirm).

Now the game runs smoothly but CTD everytime I start the main quest. It happens sometimes while looking at the char sheet, or while paused or just running. No pattern.

Hope this gets fixed before the final release as I **love** what I saw so far... amazing graphics, great action and a story in a setting very familiar (just replayed DA:O twice recently)

Another tip : Changing between DX9 and 11 ingame seem to work , atleast for me going from DX11 with graphical artifacts & lag to DX9 without and smooth gameplay, I could finish the demo that way.

Reason to even run DX11 is to pass the part where it crashes for me in DX9 mode - After Character Customization screen & the real game loads.

* Start game with DX11 (As admin) , hack & slash & endure laggy gameplay until , affter the Char customization menu & game loads and your family is on the run.

* Switch to DX9 in the game menu

* Enjoy the rest of the demo.

Win7-64Bit , Intel i5-760 , 6Gb RAM , Geforce570 GTX , latest Official Nvidia drivers 266.58, 1680x1050 resolution, AA=OFF

I've started up the demo 5 times now. The first time, crashed after character creator. The second time, played it all the way through, no problem. The other three times, crashed after character creator.

I haven't adjusted any settings after the successful run.

So. Put that in your pipe, and smoke it.

(the 2nd run was dx9, AF and AA off, high texture detail)

Well, generally is quite an issue, i demand why the demo was released with so many bugs. That's not a good way the pubblicize the game. Most of the people that post issues have quite strong machine still the demo isn't playable at all. :( I tried all possible solution, nothing worked, dx9, dx11, hidetal, low detali, windowed, fullscreen nothing it simply crash. I can't pass the ogre battle the 90% of the times and few time i reached the successive are, having a crash soon after...

For me it was hell of alot more stable on directx11

when running directx11 it now only crashes after a certain time like 15 minutes in. Atleast in Origins it didnt crash until an 1-2 while playing.

What the hell are ya messing up on the pc side when it comes to Dragon Age ?
Origins freezes and crashes and this demo just bah!

But still I like it, I love the more dynamic combat and the artstyle is fantastic!

k i played in DX11 medium and it worked perfectly. isnt that funny? the less demanding dx9 crashes bus the higher powered dx11 doesnt have load times in the cut scenes.
