Tried it on DX11 and DX9, high and low details, and it always crashes after I click continue in the character modification screen (so before the 'proper' part of the demo). If this is any indication of the state in which the actual game has left the workroom...

Crashes when ALT-TABbing out of the demo. The first two switches were okay, the third crashed.

Had the crash after the character customisation screen. Also had some wierd loading issues in between dialog where it would pause for a second or 2.

Have a windows 7 32bi, ATI radeon HD 4800, and intel duel core. It was on Direct X 9 settings.

DirectX 11 has known performance and stability issues that have been corrected in the main game.

DirectX 11 is not supported for the demo. If you are experiences crashes outside of DX11, please post a new thread with your version of DX in the title.

Thank you!

Ok, I can't speak for anyone else, but I fixed my crashes by turning off DirectX 11 (running an ATI 5780 here)

I'm stumped! I just played through the entire demo this time.
I'd say it has something to do with either: graphics settings, DirectX, and/or AA.
Most likely cause is DirectX11.

Looks amazing, btw. Can't wait for the final product! :)

Finished the game, had enough of testing the **** out of it after 2 hours. As far as I noticed:

- The game runs easily on very high settings

- AA is a **** -> when enabled it crashes, disabled everything runs smooth

- Also tried windowed and as admin -> no changes

Anyway, I played the demo completely through and I must say: Finally they understand how a rogue is supposed to fight! Awesome combat moves, very good job. Now lets hope the final release isn't as buggy as this demo. Everyone good luck!

My Crash Report:

The game crashed after the character customization screen when the movie started. And i got the following error message:
Runtime Error
Program "path to the DragonAge2Demo.exe"
R6025 - Pure virtual function call

Then i changed to DirectX 9 with High graphic settings and it worked.

Hope this information helps!

Here is a quick fix that seems to work. I run max settings, with direct 11 but I guess it will work with any setting, All i did was turn off full screen and the game runs great for me,
I had the same crashes when using direct 9 and could not run direct 11 at any setting before i went into window mode.

Thanks! This worked for me too. I was able to finish the demo without crashing and the loading times between cutscenes also disappeared.

Yeah I was thinking of getting full Dragon Age II for PC instead of PS3 this time but it seems my laptop isn't good enough. :/ It's not a gaming computer but most games usually work like WoW. Just wondering if I could get any help on this? And the thread seemed suitable. My laptop's features are: 3GB RAM; 'AMD Sempron™ SI-42 2.10 GHz' processor; Windows 7 64-Bit; 'ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics' Graphics Card (1404 MB); 1366 x 768 (32-Bit) (60Hz) Display Mode; DirectX 11; DirectDraw, Direct3D and AGP Texture all Enabled. I was thinking of getting a new Graphics Card, possibly a free downloadable one, but which one would be best? I've tried it using DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 on all graphics options and it still lags and crashes.

The Movie beforehand lags and in the 'makebelief' story he tells where you have the armour, weapons and skills etc. it lags a load and crashes sometimes.

Ok, I had the crash problem after character customization, too, and the quote below shows how it can be avoided.

Revakeane wrote...

Fixed it by starting as system administrator! Interesting demo, aside from the constant pauses throughout the cut scenes and the slightly stilted dialogue. Also Isabela's boobs are kinda disproportionately big... at least to me.

This even applies if you already ARE administrator (don't ask me why...)
So right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator", and it won't crash.

The demo looks good. Very good. There are some small things that I hope to be fixed on release (like the mimics looking unnatural like fleshloafs overlapping parts of the face) but maybe that's because I still played with min specs hoping to avoid the crashes that way. Will try it again tomorrow with max specs.

You're going to have to be just a tad clearer here. What has the performance and stability issues? Having DirextX version 11 (even though you set the renderer to Direct X 9), running the game in DirectX version 11 (an option when setting up through the launcher), or... what?

I've got Direct X version 11, but I've chosen to render in Direct X 9 just to avoid any issues. Still crashed every time I tried to play as a mage, until I'd played as both a Rogue and a Warrior, then it magically worked. I wish the demo could at least be more consistent in its errors. :P

Yes, that fixed the problems for me as well, now I just hope I'll be able to play the release version in full screen. ಠ_ಠ

I've got an i7 920,ATI HD 5870 and 6 gigs of RAM. Guessing I shouldn't be having issues. It crashes on the character screen with both DX11 and DX9. I don't even have the option enabled for Very High settings as in it won't let me select it in game and reverts back to high. Tried in windowded mode and it still crashed. It also will not allow me to select the high setting with DX 9. Finally got it working by turning off AA.

Running everything on max DX11 1920x1200 and clicking start game after the customization it crashes tho running it in windowed mode 1440 x 900 (due to 1920x1200 cutting the screen off) it runs fine. Regardless of what settings there does appear to be annoying pauses in the transitions between the different cutscenes and sometimes stopping them to load in for some reason, other than that runs really smooth and graphics are good, at least it's not the memory leak that plagued the 1st one on my old AMD Phenom rig...here's hoping for a smoother launch of the game than the demo

Edit - Forgot to mention the 3 or 4 error msgs where for some reason it couldnt find the game and preventing you from logging in to ea servers but clicking try again sorted that out

OK. I've finally managed to get past the customisation/start game screen - by running the game in windowed made (and DX9 low settings, fwiw). Once into the main game, setting the game to full screen and running at medium seems to be running fine. Still got some annoying pauses during cut scenes though.

I *really* hope the full version of the game is way better than this...

Edit:
Oops. But don't Alt-Tab out to post your good news to the forum...
Is anyone else not able to save?

This is how I solved my problems with all the crashes and lag.

Open the launcher, click the configure, go to the video option, select graphic detail to Medium or lower. Enjoy the game!~

I clicked 'Play' on the launcher and a error message came up, saying "The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
