Yeah mmm my PC plays this game pretty bad too on the High setting in DX11 mode. I can play it on medium and DX11 mode but on High it gets laggy with graphical glitches and I have a GTX 480 GPU with a Core2Quad Q6600 oced to 3.4GHz, I know my PC should be able to just dooky on this game. I'm sorry but I would like games to fully work correctly before they start releasing crap to the public. I mean its really nice that they actaully released a demo for PC I like that becsaue I can actually ee how the game plays before I buy it but cmon now, its like working half way.....

Played the demo in DX9 renderer and everything as high as it would go, got absolutely terrible performance. A lot of hitching/stuttering, during combat and cutscenes. I have a GTX 460 1GB, Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66ghz. I can run Crysis on maximum with AA/AF enabled at 16 each with a nice, solid framerate. This DA2 demo, however, ran horribly.

Your at minimum specs, it will not run for you as you dont have the right equitment to play it. Also if you are getting it on PS3 download via the PSN store... much less hassle for you.

Try running dxsetup in the redist/ DX folder of your DA2 demo (it will update any old files you may have). I have finished the game twice now on high settings selected dx 11 in the config and using 8 times AA everything is smooth... looks great. Win 7, Saphire Toxic HD 5850, i7 etc

Nvidia GTX 460
4 GB RAM
Windows 7.

Yeah, I got almost the exact same computer as you, only thing different is that my CPU is a bit faster, (3.3 ghz I think, can't remember) and I get the black triangles and like 10 fps in the beginning.Image IPB

I downloaded it via PSN, and it's pretty "choppy". Lots of starts and stops in dialog, action, even loading where the music would fade out. The dialog transitions were strange, too. Right before and after the beginning of each segment, the music would stop and the characters would speak, then the music would fade back in for a couple of seconds before another person spoke. You think it's going to be so choppy with the game? :S

I have similar issues.
I can run Bad company 2 maxed out 1080p DX11 over 60 FPS but when I try to run this maxed DX11 1080p it runs at about 6-8 FPS and there are black triangles all over the ground. Completely unplayable. Seeing as how this game comes out really soon I sure hope that it's not as ****ing terrible as this demo. Cause the demo is UNPLAYABLE. And that really sucks cause I was really looking forward to it, and now I cant even play it. Bioware <3 But this </3

I have an AMD phenom 965 BE OC'd to 4.0 GHZ
4GB 1600mhz DDR3 ram
and a GTX 470 Max OC'd

Well over requirements.

Dragon age 1 runs maxed 1080p x8 AA always over 70 FPS.

Its been stated several times that the Demo buil does not support DX11, try running in DX9 and see if it makes a difference.

I got
i7 980 xe @ 4.3 ghz and a gtx 480 SC same lag.
But believe its because the api is not optimised @ dx 11. Ill try console dx 9 settings lol. Why make a demo with dx 11 and discourage ppl from playing in dx11?

update: i updated my drivers dx 11 api on high maxed setting fps fixed from 15 before to 150 fps fixed.

Played the demo just now, awesome game so far, but some bad FPS lag :/

I have:

Core I7 950

6GB 1600mhz triple channel RAM

2 x gtx 470's in SLI

can run dx11 maxed out (as much as the demo allows) with fps dropping into low 20's (fraps)

Just hoping all is well for the full release.

The demo doesn't take use of my system at all when running dx11. Cpu and gpu temperatures are too low, heh. Running deadspace (two year old game) taxes my computer more (I7-920, GF 580)

No problems here. Remember, the demo has issues with dx11 support, so you must use dx9 for best framerate. Game looks great at medium settings anyways (way better than the x360 demo graphics) so I might even just stick with those if the higher settings slow down the game.

Hehe. The demo isnt optimized when it comes to dx11, but can work on some computers with a little luck. Mine works if I chose medium settings with dx11 and start and then put the settings to high ingame. Anyway, the dx11 issues have been adressed and will not appear in the full game.

As for the loadingtimes and stutter before and after cutscences. They are also known and I cant remember who, but I think it was Mike that said that while his wife experienced them in the demo, there was none in the full game, so it seems to have been adressed as well.

Ohh btw, it looks and plays awsome even on unoptimized locked high settings with dx11. Cant wait to see how it looks and plays in the full game.

i5 OC'd @ 3.2GHz, 8gb G. Skill Ripjaws, XFX Radeon HD 5850 1GB, Win 7 64-bit. The demo ran smoothly except for the random "loading" fade-outs.

Windows 7 64bit, Core i7 980X 3.3Ghz, OCZ 4x RAID SSD @ 600 MB/s, Raedon 5970 2GB and 24GB of RAM.

Ran the game at high quality at 2560x1600, and it's annoyingly laggy each time something happens like a new dialog.

Then, it even crashed when it was paused and in the background (alt-switched to another app).

What kind of machine do you need to run it smoothly?

To run the demo properly you MUST pick the DX9 renderer (max setting Medium). It runs like butter in this mode.

You can switch it to DX10 support (by selecting DX11 and High in the launcher) but it runs like crap and frequently CTDed on me. You cannot switch it to DX11 (DX11/Very High), as that option is disabled.

-THIS- is what fixed me.

I have a high end system with the same slowness and whatnot when selecting dx11 with my GTX 480..
After running the dxsetup that was in my dragon age 2/redist/directx/dxsetup.exe then after going to the launcher configuration tool and changing it to 1920x1080 8x aa.. it ran amazing, in fact.. it ran smoother with dx11 8xaa and set to high graphics than it did when I had it at dx9 high (without installing the redist'd direct x)

Now i'm seriously considering buying the game.

@MorrigansFriend - Your PC is at our minimum spec requirements unfortunately it will run slower on your machine. I have included the minimum and recommended specs to run Dragon Age II:

PC Minimum
:
OS: Windows XP with SP3, Windows Vista with SP2, or Windows 7
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (or equivalent) running at 1.8 GHz or greater
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8 GHz or greater
RAM: 1 GB (1.5 GB Vista and Windows 7)
Video: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256 MB cards
Disc Drive: DVD ROM drive required
Hard Drive: 7 GB
Sound: Direct X 9.0c Compatible Sound Card Windows Experience Index: 4.5

PC Recommended:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz Processor or equivalent
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 Triple core 2.8 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2GB (4 GB Vista and Windows 7)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
Video: NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DirectX 11 Video: ATI 5850 or greater
DirectX 11 Video: NVIDIA 460 or greater

My system specs are above what your recommended settings are. I've got a six core Phenom but the game's config utility says: #Cores: 1  Image IPB So the demo runs rubbish on my system. Looks like I'll only be getting this for my 360 then...

Dragon Age (2) is quite CPU intensive. The recommended specifications list a quad core for a good reason. You are have only half the cores and your clock speed is not making up for that. I am not surprised that the game is running poorly. The only dual core that would provide decent performance at this time is probably the Intel Core i3 2120 with its clockspeed of 3.3GHz and a superior processor architecture compared to the Core 2 family. That said, you could try picking up a Q9450...Q9650 somwhere cheap as an upgrade to your E6750, which would make Dragon Age run much better on your system without requiring a new mainboard or even PC. Check what your mainboard supports, possibly with a new bios update, first however.

Do realize that the 360 version will have lower graphic quality than the PC version. Second, I do not think the config utility needs to show multiple cores for the game to actually utilize them. I suggest you open up task manager and keep it open while playing. After playing a minute or so exit the game quickly and look at the task manager CPU graphs, if multiple graphs show activity the game is still utilizing your cores, despite the config utility not showing them. What video card and memory have you got in your system by the way?

A little help would be nice, please!

I will make a "desperate upgrade" (change only the really essential!) to run DA2. I don't care for graphics, so I just want the game to run fast and stable with low graphic settings (800x600, no AA, everything low).

My specs: Pentium Dual Core E5300 2.6GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, GeForce 7200GS 256MB, WinXP SP3.

I just want to change the most important component (CPU or GPU or RAM).

Thanks!
