If you are having slow or corrupted downloads you can use a download manager to get the file.
I suggest Download Express, FlashGet, Free Download Manager, Orbit Downloader. Any of those should work.
It helped me and some other people.

I tried some of these but they either couldn't find my file, or kept on restarting... Don't really understand how to use them

I'm at 95% right now using WinGet and 4 parallel threads. It's been fluctuating between 300kb/s and 600kb/s. That's a hell of a lot better than the 70-80kb/s I was getting in my browser (I usually DL around 1.5-2.0MB/s). I'm surprised that Bioware/EA were not prepared for the server load today, they had to have known.

Used Free Download Manager -- got around 1 MB/s. We get 10 Mbit (around 1,2 MB) per sec on speed tests so I suppose that was a great speed.

I'm using Free Download Manager too, now--and watching the "connection to the server is lost" messages every 30 seconds makes me understand why it's so slow. Let's hope that's the end of my technical problems, I could use a break since our basement flooded last night and there's a huge mess to clean up.
