Not necessarily. My computer (for some reason) doesn't like the Catalyst 11.2 or 11.1 drivers, so I'm running the most stable version I could find, 10.6. That's likely why he said to update the drivers.

I had this same problem with the 11.2 version of the Catalyst drivers. First reverted back to 11.1 but my PC was crashing daily too, so I'm curently running my old drivers 9.11
I'll try the 10.6 you mentioned here, thanks :)

Good luck finding them. When I first wiped my old drivers and then found out that the 11.2 and 11.1 drivers didn't work, it took me a hell of a search to try to find a working Catalyst AGP pack. For some reason with my setup when I go to install the normal driver pack it brings up the Install menu but doesn't have the display driver as an option. So I had to use the AGP hotfix files but even those are screwed up for some reason.

Having an out of date computer is a battle sometimes. Hence why every week I'm saving $10 for my wedding and $5 for a new computer. Hopefully I can convince my family to buy me computer parts for my birthday in lieu of other presents.

I've tried looking through my bios, again to no avail my laptop does not have advanced chipset features. I've looked online and through YouTube I've seen a HP dv6 model play Dragon Age II. If it's any help my model is a dv6 1030tx again they properties are as follows:
Pentium Intel™ Core®2 Duo P7450 @ 2.13Ghz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 1024 Dedicated Video Memory
2814 Gb Total Available Graphics Memory
Bios Version Hewlett Packard F.21 23/04/2009
SMBios Version 2.4
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to help you at the moment. A few people here thought that it 's a sse2 problem, but you and another person (who disappeared somewhere) posted specs with processors that support it. Yours even is listed in the official minimal specs. Either it means that we were dead wrong, or it means that somehow you two happen to have it turned off, but I don't know how likely it is, all I know is that it's possible. I looked in wiki and it lists your processor as supporting it. But if you want you can check it for sure, this program gives you info about your processor: http://download.cnet...4-10071294.html

Just follow the thread, I guess, the problem may be something else, and maybe eventually we'll find what. Although by now I have very little hope.

P.S. If you happen to have games Venetica and Borderlands, or maybe their demos, do they run for you? These games use sse2 for sure.

Mostly in the dark. I'm waiting for a reply from Tech Support, maybe they'll shed some light by answering my questions. I listed some suspicions in the report.

By the way, I have an idea on how to check our suspicion about sse2.

All you need is a friend with a PC who either owns the game or can do you a favour and download the demo. Any modern processor will support sse2, starting from P4 and Athlon 64. Unfortunately, my acquaintances take no interest in RPGs, but surely somebody has a friend who does?

Just ask to launch the demo to make sure it works. And then ask them to access BIOS and disable sse2, restart the PC and try to launch the game again. Then we'll know for sure if sse2 instruction set has anything to do with it not working.

How to access BIOS and disable sse2 was briefly explained in this post (except that it explains how to enable it, but disabling is done the same way):
http://social.biowar...50178/6#6471227

Somebody please try it out, surely at least one of us has a friend who can help check it. Or even if you know somebody in DA community online and are friendly enough with them, from posting a lot in forums or something else, just ask them to check if the game still runs once they disable sse2. It can be enabled again without any trouble, so nothing bad will come out of it.

I just wonder out loud here....and I hope I wont get banned for this. When they crack a game they upload dll files along with modified exe file, right? Would that might affect the way the demo is initialized? To skip the sse2 requiremoent I mean.

Heh,heh to some game(dont just now remember what) one fix was using crack. It was in official forums.
So propably if they find bugs they try to fix those. But so long as something use sse2 it crashes cause cpu doesnt understand it.

Yeh, I know, I cant play DA2 on my rig, so I'm playing logged off on my freiends machine (his game), at his house, and not as often as I would like :) its a little bit annoying. I'm still on the fence about the whole thing. If it doesnt get fixed soon I'll complete the whole game and wont have the incentive to buy it myself.
I am building a new pc but I'm waiting for new mobo with AM3+ to arrive on the market...though I do not know the date.

Well, I don't have my personal PC at my house so I won't be able to do much testing.

But I suggest to everyone who is affected by this problem to go to *** http://support.ea.com/ *** log in with your EA account and then submit a question about the PhysX error with your specific specs. If we flood them with enough trouble reports hopefully someone will take notice - or - maybe at least they'll be able to find a solution to one person that will help everyone else.

If they keep giving us the "update drivers" spiel and it's still not working and we keep hounding the point they'll (hopefully) have to dig deeper into the issue.

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting EA Support regarding your Dragon
Age 2. Im am sorry we are having issues with our game and Physx. I
advise you reinstall the game with that Direct X version 9 installed.
Should
you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game
in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self

Tech Support is truly useless, they didn't even answer my question about whether the game uses sse2, etc. I did tell them that I did update both PhysX and videocard drivers to the very latest version, yet I'm being told to do it again.

If you are getting the error “failed to initialize Physx” with the Dragon Age 2 then you have to install the latest version of the Physx from official site. If you are not having the Physx compatible Graphic Card then also you install the Physx to work with the issue.

If the problem still persists, then go with instruction carefully and apply the same.

First Exit from Dragon Age 2
If you are having Nvidia Card then install latest Nvidia Driver from Official site
If you are having ATI Card then install latest ATI Driver from Official site
After installation, Launch Dragon Age 2

I complained about quality of their agent in the survey they set me... Not that it will magically change things, but telling me to do what I did (and wrote about it) is an overkill for sure. I would understand it if I didn't write about it explicitly, but as it is, they either don't read questions and reports properly, or they aren't qualified to help people if they can't conceive that there could possibly be other problems except old drivers. Not even when you're saying what it might be and expect it to at least be denied.

"Dragon Age II was not found." It's only for the full game and won't work with the demo to check it out. Nothing relevant to our problem is mentioned in the patch notes.

Wow, we seem to pick up new followers every day.
I'm going to have my brother test the Beta Patch - although I don't think it addresses our problem. However, no sense in not trying.

Once I'm done beating DA2 (I know, it's been out since Tuesday and I still haven't beat it!?!) I will attempt to disable SSE2 on my brother's PC and then test the game to see if it works. If it gives us the PhysX error, I think that will pretty much settle the issue. But I'm not going to risk screwing up his computer until after I've finished the game and I'll have time to tinker with it if I really dork every thing up.
