Lets wait again.omgitworks didnt give any specs.

Must have been lurking in this thread because he/she just signed up 17 hours ago and only made one post, in this thread about it.

Can
somebody else who owns the full game apply the beta patch and confirm
that it fixes the PhysX error? It can't be applied to the demo.

Don't break out the champane yet, tried the patch with my single CPU and still got the same error. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]

Like I said, it didn't work for my computer either.

UPDATE: I also sent a message to omgitworks asking he/she to come back and give us some more information, including system specs. Hopefully they'll show up soon and help us out.

More updates guys - In the PC Support forum there is a stickied thread about launch issues (which I can't believe I didn't notice until now) which highlights some launcher issues, some of which have been addressed by the beta patch. I didn't see anything remotely close to our PhysX error, so I posted our information in that thread too.

I also asked that if my post is noticed and the issue is added to their list for someone to PM just to let me know that it's being looked into. Hopefully that will give us some more peace of mind rather than just hoping that someone's taken notice by now. Just a short little confirmation that they acknowledge the issue will make me, at least, feel better.

Here's that thread for those of you able to access that forum: http://social.biowar...index/6442590/1

Thanx for your effort, Steve. I hope that you can help us check the source of the problem by disable sse2 method in a while, because it would be so much easier to ask for help when the source has been determined. I tried to ask a few guys from work whether they could download a demo and try it, but once they hear about accessing BIOS they start being scared, even though I explain that it's completely safe and you can't mess up, just enable it back again. So no luck so far.

Yeah, my post in the launch issues thread got a bite! Here's what I got from BioWare:

Hello Steve,

We are currently looking into this issue (and all installation issues), but we are in need of more information.

Could you please send me a copy of the text output generated by saving the Config Tool settings, and a copy of your Installation Log, which should be found in your My Documents directory, with the name 'Install Dragon Age 2' (this is the default).

The email address you can send these to is: DA2LaunchSupport@bioware.com

Thank you in advance for your help, and we appreciate your patience.

Devon Wetheral

They only want output from FULL GAME INSTALLS, not the demo. So if you are having this problem with your full game install, go ahead and also send your Config report and Install log to that e-mail address. I'll be sending mine this evening.

Again, only send those files to that e-mail if it's a full game install, not from the demo.

I'm *almost* wrapped up with the game, then I will give the disable SSE2 thing a shot and see what happens and whether that narrows down the problem at all.

Did they say explicitly that they want output only from full game installs, not the demo? There's nothing to suggest it in the quotation that you provided. This almost makes me sad that I decided to hold off from buying.

Btw you're quick to play through the game in a week. It took me 200+ hours to complete DA:O! :) Provided that there was much pausing and nightmare difficulty and a slighly wrongly built blood mage, but it was still a very long game, even if those time-adding factors would've been removed.

I specifically asked if they also wanted stuff from the people with the demo. Here's those transcripts:

Thank you very much for taking a look into this. I'll be able to get you these files from my computer.

Many of the people affected by this PhysX error have experienced it with the demo. I first had it with the demo and it still persisted when I installed the full version. Others who have run into it are waiting for a concrete resolution before purchasing the full game.

Would those documents from the demo config and demo installer also be useful to you? If so, I can have them e-mail those files to that address you provided if you think that may help. I realize they are two different software packages, but this issue is there in both the demo and full version for me and others.

Thanks again for your support. I'll send those readouts later tonight.
-Steve

At this point, we've got enough information regarding the demo issues, and we're simply looking for issues from the main game install.

While waiting i tried demo with laptop and GeForce 7000m.Didnt expect it run so "good".Low 800x600 but x1650 should handel it much better.

Full specs if it helps somebody.
Acer Aspire 7220 (bios settings almost zero)
Mobile Sempron 3600+
GeForce7000m
XP SP3 fully updated
PhysX 8.09.04 was already installed and 258.96 driver.
Built-in administrator account.(only account in use)
Avast free.No firewall,winfw disabled.

and no problems.

In Athlon XP desktop with PhysX 8.09.04 still same error.

Sorry i didn't see your message for a while Steve. I assumed they directly addressed the issue with the patch and that yall would be playing by now. I too was having the physx error every time i tried to launch the full game. (i never tried the demo). all i ended up doing was running the beta patch and running the game using dragonage2.exe in the binship folder.

Since i ran into this problem, i have also updated my drivers, reinstalled uninstalled, and most of the other recomendations in this thread, with absolutely no change until i ran the betapatch. pm me if theres anything else you need to know. Sorry if i missed something in my hardware specs, im not too comp savvy

Thanks for those specs.
You're running a Windows 7, dual-core, 64-bit system with a PCI-express video card - which makes me wonder why you were having the problem in the first place, hmmmm. However, those specs are greatly different from most of the rest of us, so I don't know if they'll particularly be able to help much, except perhaps giving even more credence to the SSE2 instructions theory.

I finished Dragon Age 2 last night. Today I'm going to see if I can go and disable SSE2 on my brother's PC and then test it.

Starting to think this is a bug, cause they wanted those logs and when it scans system it doesnt give any messages about cpu. Also platform is initialized so it should be ok.

So I went into the BIOS on my brother's computer here, but there was no option to disable SSE2 instructions, so I was unable to do it and subsequently test. So much for that idea I guess...

Maybe it was only available on older motherboards. I found this, for example:
http://common.ddix.r...A_BIOS_1026.pdf
It has the option under Advanced Chipset Features, page 16.

I lost all hope by now. :(

Dont lost hope.In some point they have to tell is it going to work or not.

In this social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/294/index/6148016/8 thread is log where is this same DragonAge2Demo!AK::Monitor::PostCode+234e70 (postcode is different and idont know what this does) and in stack atidxx32!XdxInitXopServices?Debug shows only first chance exceptions and there should be second chance for Illegal instruction - code c000001d if this really use sse2 at this point.
So i think theres Athlon XP (sse and 3DNow,socket a,K7 what ever) support or they are going to patch full game because they wanted those logs.(of course patch if this is bug)

Mirrors Edge didnt work with 8.09.04.Gives nvcuda.dll error.Installed 9.10.0244 over it.ME works but DA2 same.

I probably won't be able to mess with anything else until Sunday when I get my computer back. My brother won't be available too much to mess with stuff. He's going to try the final release of the 1.01 patch sometime tomorrow night, although I don't expect that to work. I'll be heading to his place next weekend to trade systems back, so I'll be able to give it some more then.

Well the 1.01 patch officially did nothing to alleviate the PhysX problem. Hopefully its an issue that will be addressed in a 1.02 patch that, I would hope, will be pretty soon forthcoming.

I made another post in the "Unable to launch" thread in the PC support forum just to keep it refreshed in hopes that it will be looked into.

If my brother isn't sick this weekend, I'll be going down there to get my computer. I've got a couple ideas of new things to try, so I'll probably update people Sunday night (or later today if the news is that I'm not going until next weekend).
