I was able to download the demo but now I can't even play it.
Whenever I try to bring up the configuration utility to change my settings, it gets stuck and I can't do anything with it. This would've been fine if I was able to play the demo on whatever setting it would set for me, but it crashes whenever I try to launch it. I can get through the first opening video with no sound before it does down on me.
Anyone have a clue on what this is?

Bah. Stupid configuration utility.
I've had problems with this before but I can't remember how I had it resolved last time.

This is common for nVidia cards, reboot your computer and launch the config utility as soon as you can. This was also an issue in DAO, and I don't know of any other way around it.

If you're having issues with the Configuration Utility, try navigating to the install directory for the demo (default should be C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age 2 Demo [Windows 7]), and in the bin_ship folder, run the DragonAge2Demo.exe
You should be able to change video resolutions, etc. in order to suit your needs when the demo loads.

@Noelemahc
I just tried it. Same issue.
@Devon Wetheral
I've also tried it. The demo crashed after the opening EA video played with no sound. I have absolutely no access to it.

I'll bump as well since I am having the exact same issue(s).
Configuration Utility begins system scan and hangs after reaching ~20%.
If I launch game regardless, it crashes after the Bioware logo splash page plays (also with no sound).
Win 7 Home Prem.
Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.4GHz
4GB Ram
GeForce 9800 GTX+
I've updated both direct x and graphics drivers to no avail.

You just restarted the launcher & configuration utility? Or you restarted your PC?

I should've mentioned this earlier, but I was able to get the demo working without the configuration window. I had to launch the demo through the dragonage2demo.exe in the program files folder with administrator access to do it. This was after I uninstalled and reinstalled the game though, since it didn't work the first few times.

Yesterday I had this issue with the configuration utility sticking at about 10 percent as well. What I ended up doing was just leaving it up and not messing with it, about 4 hours later it finished of its own accord and I was able to play the game just fine, with no other issues whatsoever. (I had this same issue with the game starting with no sound at first, for some reason the sound was turned off by default in the settings ... I did also have to run the game on medium graphic settings ... so I guess I should say once the config tool finally finished and I made those two alterations the demo worked just fine.)
So, with no other advice, all I can recommend is to leave the config thing on and hope in 4 or 5 hours it finishes like mine did. (and, no, I never noticed any progress on the bar before it finished ... it simply went from 10 percent or so for 4 hours, then I watched a movie, came back and it was done)

Same here, it crashes in the config utility. I tried launching the demo exe but that just brings me back to the main menu, presumably because it hasn't done it's one time setup for settings.
Very frustrating.
I'm W7x64, ATI 4800, Core 2 Duo, Xi-fi.

I'll try going straight to the .exe file when I get home. Other wise I'll go with elearon1's suggestion. I was thinking that was probably what I would need to do since the Config utility seems to be hung rather than crashed. I waited about 20 minutes at one point but impatience got the better of me. I guess I'll fire up the Config Utility, go play the DA2 demo on the 360, play a little Bulletstorm and then come back and try the PC demo!
Thanks for the suggestion folks.

I am having same problem in main game but not in the demo steam version for both. Have a quad core processor @ 3.2 ghz, 8 gigs of ram, terrabyte of free space, and nvidia 9800 GTX+. Have left it for 27 hours now and still frozen at around the 10-15% point. Rebooting steam or the computer doesn't help. Really frustrating since I pre-ordered the game and cant play.

This is happenning to me in the game. full version purchased through steam, 1.3 patch, amd dual core x64 processor, 4 gigs of ram, and a nvidea gerforce 560 ti video car with 4 gigs of dedicate video ram. the configuration utility just sits there indefinately, no progress no messages, nothing.
