 Hey all,

I excitedly downloaded the demo today and was unhappy to find that the very high setting was disabled as I wanted to see how nice the game looked maxed out. In the end I settled for the following settings:

1900x1080
DirectX 11 mode
High
SSAO on
AAx8
AFx16

However, my rig only averaged about 30fps in the first fight scene.

Specs

i7 950 @ 3.8GHz
ASUS P6X58D-E Mobo
6GB Mushkin RAM 1600MHz @ 6-8-6-20
EVGA GTX 570 @ 800 Core 2000 Shader

I was expecting higher FPS out of this game even at these settings. What are other peoples experiences?

Cheers,

Dillinger

Someone posted that disabling AF helped, but he/she was using an AMD card. You could also try disabling ambient occlusion. Of course these things should not be a performance problem on a GTX 570.

The only thing I've found that got rid of the FPS drops is setting it to Medium rather than High. Can leave everything else on/maxed.

Q9450 @ 3.4GHz

4GB Ram

GTX 570

If I'd play on High even the cinematics drop to <10 FPS at times.

Same here, medium is the only playable setting. I play on a decent rig as well (Core i7@3,6GHz, 6Gb Ram + GTX 580) but DirectX 11 mode is unplayable with disappointing frame rates, and some nasty bugs (black triangles everywhere depending on cam viewpoint).

Better wait for final release with maybe proper driver support.. or maybe vey high mode is indeed very high...

Wasn't it explicitly stated that DX11 was not supported in the demo?

Same here. My computer should more than be able to handle it, and it is absolutely painful to watch.

I even set it to Medium, and it's still just as laggy. This is ridiculous.

No, it was stated that certain DX11 features won't work, and that High and Very High graphical settings are limited to those with DX11.

Yeah, DirectX11 isn't playable, hoping for a patch. I am using i5 @3.5, 6Gb Ram, GTX470 overclocked. The fps drops to 20 and the highest are 70. I haved overclocked the video card almost to the limits, and no performance in DX11, bad optimization.

Use Direct X 9. I was having the same problem.

Now I can run on Very High settings.

It seems DX10/11 is unoptimized or something.

Avoid DX11 mode. I have no idea why they even included it given the state it's in.

... And that's putting it mildly.

@RiverLucky : Yeah, DX11 is unoptimized, slow frame rates, on good systems. DX9 runs great.

It will improve once AMD and nVidia release updated drivers when the retail version is released, I'm sure.

Ok, but why BioWare said that DX11 isn't available in the demo, and a DX11 render is available, but not with all features. I don't get it.

Switch to DX9, at the very least it's not officially supported. Chris and the FAQ state. It doesn't even have it.

Most people that try to enable it seem to be having issues.

Thanks for all your replies.

I can get average 70fps w/ 60 minimum if I run 0xAF, 2xAA and SSAO off which is a little disappointing.

How exactly are you running very high on DX9 mode RiverLucky? High and up is DX11 only. Also is Very High disabled on everyone elses?

Cheers

I see. I wonder why they left it in as an option if it wasn't to be used.I'll try DX9 and see if there's much difference in quality.

No. It doesn't have it. This is also stated in the FAQ as well.

That's weird--because when I try to play the DX9 version, it's laggy on Medium. If I play the DX11 version, it's more managable on medium.

From what i say the difference between DX9 from the demo and DX11 ( all with max settings) are some kind of increase contrast, explosions look a little better, and textures as well, nothing big in enabling DX11, the only big thing when enabling DX11 is the slow frame rate, even on high systems.
