It is true that the game has plenty of filler combat but I don't really think that the story and characters have suffered because of this.

Certain areas like the Deep Roads do feel like a grind with little party interaction, etc.  The codexes are very interesting there, though.  And I see it as a test of what you as a Grey Warden are meant to do.

17 hours is a blow-through.  I have somewhere around a dozen characters and my games are generally 40-50 hours.  Lot of replay value in this game.  I would suggest you try another character.  Combat was hard for me at first, too, but learning how to build the NPCs and set tactics to make our team work effectively made it better.

Yeah, who wants deep combat and large expansive levels! If NEXT GEN ADD has taught us anything, people want Cover Shooters with linear levels and ZERO RPG ELEMENTS!

lets make Dragon Age 2 a cover shooter and remove inventory, levels, skills, classes, abilities etc..! Make it MP online only! And make every level the same as Counterstrike Dedust!

I think that their single player mmo approach ruined the combat system. The combat is really tiresome because the party AI doesn't work too good. But in addition I may be a bad player when it comes to combat tactics. There should be more room to succeed in combat without being Sun Tzu.

I love the game, and I suggest u shouldnt rush through the whole story.. (17 hours)

And your companions do have their own story like the game itself. 10/10
