Will DirectX10 hardware work with High settings using the DirectX11 renderer in final retail?

I know DX11 isn't fully supported in the demo, but I would like to know this.  In the demo, I can see the overlays, but I get a black screen where the 3D scenes are supposed to be presented.  It's not because I don't have a DX11 card.  Some games use the DX11 renderer while only using DX10 functions for DX10 hardware.  One game like this that comes to mind is Metro 2033.  The options screen tooltip also says "requires DX10-capable hardware" when hovering on High quality settings using the DX11 renderer.  DX10 cards full support SSAO and soft particles, just not tesselation as far as I know.

Now this isn't knocking on the game, as I think it looks great even in DirectX9.  The simple concepts of ambient occlusion and collideable particles can make a lot of difference in the immersion factor, however, and I would love to be able to use these effects in the final game.

Just for reference I am using two nVidia 8800GTX in SLI and Forceware 266.58 drivers.  Also, performance is great using alternate frame rendering 2.

I have a dumb question: How do you find what version of DirectX your PC is running?

@Gr8Horned1: Windows 7 and Vista has DirectX 11 installed native. Tell me what is your video card, and i tell you if it supports DX11.

1) Press Windows Key + R (Brings up Run dialogue)
2) In the box type: dxdiag

At the bottom of "System Information" there's Direct X version.

Note: The version listed may actually be higher than what your graphics card supports.

DxDiag used to show a list of all files and their versions before Vista, but I know the last SDK released was June 2010 which always includes the latest major revisions. There may be minor revisions released in the interim, but this is usually to fix coding errors or compat issues. Running DxDiag will, however, still say either Directx 9.0c, DirectX 10, DirectX 10.1, or DirectX 11. If your system is up to date, it should say "DirectX 11" in Windows Vista and 7.

For reference, all AMD 3000 series and nVidia 400 series and later cards support DirectX 11 at the hardware level. DirectX 10-capable cards only support DX 10 at the hardware level, but support all versions of DirectX at the software level.

I would have thought so, it depends on your other specs too thogh and you may need to use medium settings.

You say it's a PC? The 330M is a Laptop GPU.

So does mine, my GPU only supports DX10.

dxdiag reports the version of Direct X on your computer, not what your graphics card actually supports.

When the final game is released, you can set it to DX11 Renderer, then use High settings.
You can not however use Very High without a DX11 card.

Come on, my post wasn't that long was it?  Besides, this very question is the topic of my post.  I just know that in the demo nothing is being rendered on my machine besides the GUI when running on High.  The sticky says the DX11 renderer is buggy in the demo and was fixed for retail, so I'm hopeful that this issue is resolved.

I'd like some technical clarification too.  It's a valid question IMO.  I have an 8800 GTS 640 and it is perfectly capable of particle effects, PhysX, and all the candy that Crysis had to offer.  My question, in addition to yours, is what resolution textures does the DX9.c version use?

I'm wondering about this as well. Mostly, I'm wondering what I will be missing by only having a DX10 card and not a DX11 card. Seems strange to support DX9 and DX11 but not DX10.

This is more fake direct x bullcrap. Crysis did the same thing saying very high can only be done on direct x 10 then someone cracked it and most of the direct x10 options worked on xp and it looked great. Dragon age doesnt look too special very high shouldnt be locked for direct x11 its just some fake req just like crysis. And i hope someone hacks it like they did crysis. Even when i got vista crysis looked the same as the cracked xp version .

I just test it and i can say is that when you put dx9 you have only low and medium(on the menu), but when you put dx11 you have high and very high (high is for dx10 and very high is for dx11)I have a gts450 wich is a dx11 but on very high it lags and on high runs perfect. So put dx11 render and put high on the game launcher and it should be dx10.In the main menu when you click options and video and where you chose high medium see before you chose (the setting medium or high thats in the menu of th game not the launcher )Before chosing it will say on high it say's dx11 render on and it has dx10 features and on very high it says dx11 render on and it has dx11 features.

DX11 on High is available on a DX10-Capable hardware, while DX11 on Very High is only available on DX11-Capable hardware.

Hopefully that clears up some confusion.
