archery was no fun in DAO and the talent where....wierd (to say the least)

I tried archery in the DAO2 demo and weeeeee.....have it been improved, so much that I strongly consider to make my first Hawke a archer (I would be certain if it was no for the fact that Varric is one)

If there is something I know how to play, it is mages. In my latest demo playthrough, though, I made a error and did a all-creation spells mage. I was planing my first Mage to be a Spirit Healer with Ice Spells. Sadly, I decided not to get any Ice spells because I wanted to test the Creation spells, and it was very boring. After the time Skip I only had Heal, Heroic Aura and two Glyphs. Luckily my Team had good tactics and the enemies didn't really stand a chance.

Still, Ice spells for da win.

Archery was WAY improved. Its ridiculously awesome now.

Glad they noticed it was lackluster previously.

Heal's cooldown is just failsauce.

Thankfully, none of the Archer's talents take too long to use again.

I remember the first time my archer took a shot I was like "Holy crap I just did a lot of damage for one shot!" And I really felt the "thud" and the power in the bow and arrow. It was really satisfying. The first time I used that rain of arrows attack I was like "Yeeesss XD!"

God, I had to stand there, telling Carver to be a good boy and stay away from the Ogre while Aveline take care of him and I waited my heal to be ready. I think he needs more points in Cunning, but anyway.

ARCHERY IS GREAT /on-topic

Archery was so good that I decided to use that in my first playthrough. I re-played origins as an archer and it is nowhere near as good as archery in DA2.

I sure as hell am NOT going back to DAO for Archery.

I can wait for DA2, thankfully.

In the demo archery was awesome - especially combined with stun grenades, rain of arrows and the exploding arrow at higher levels.

In DA:O archery was only bearable if you used mods (which made enemy archers much more effective as well). Of course, that made 2Hander tanks drop like flies and S+B Tanks actually use their reduce ranged damage toggle ability. I'd let the tank hold their attention while my mages fireballed them and I sniped the stragglers.

Damn it, here I am trying to avoid yet another archer playthrough of the demo.

What's the name of the final skill again? The idea behind it and its upgrade sound EPIC.

Archer's Lance.  Arrow of Slaying type damage, 100% crit rate, 1/3 of AoS' cooldown time; hits everything within the arrow's path.  It's a railgun.
Upgrade is Punishing Lance.  Normal rank mobs instantly die when they get hit by it and get extra damage and physical force against Brittle targets.

So torn between stabbity rogue and Archer rogue.

I think I am going to try and make both.

I believe there will be enough points to put in both trees, especially if you forgo some of the upgrades in each tree and focus on just the most powerful ones.

My goal is to get all the abilities in DW but focus mostly on Archery tree.
Whatever is left I will use for back-flip and perhaps either "speed", "power" or "precision" in specialist tree.

That way I can play with DW daggers from time to time even though I will focus on Archery.

I guess I will find out how much to can play around like that with the skill trees.

The last Skill "Archers lance" will be awesome.

Like poster above said a rail gun.
It will work well as a one hit kill or huge damage at higher enemies and also as an AOE since it can hit multiple enemies.

I think part of what makes the Archer so great and satisfying is that the basic attack is so powerful, so it doesn't feel like puny shots while waiting for the special abilities.
It feels like you're dishing out pain and that you're effective at all times.

The more Dexterity the more DPS for the basic attack as well.

Let's not forget the specialization tree, it has Power, Speed and precision skills in it for either faster shots or precision etc. Nice boost to further dps ability.

Then the subterfuge tree with stealth.

I played a Sword and Shield Warrior and then another Archer Rogue playthrough to compare the time it took to beat the enemies.

Archer went through the fights quick. Took what seemed like ages with the Sword and Shielder.
