I agree with previous comments, if Bioware / EA can't center the hud, then please let us do it. Some MMORPG games have a fully movable and resizable hud (like LOTRO, you have one hotkey to move every bar where you want and even save its position as profiles).

EyeFinity / Surround is not usable in this state, every message and every bar should be on center monitor. Dragon Age 1 never got fixed (and I guess it will never be) but please, fix it in Dragon Age 2.

AFAIK there's been no official dev comment on the shoddy multi-monitor support and I take it the silence means no centered HUD/UI coming in the future? The issue was never even  acknowledged for DAO.

Sigh, looks like I won't even be picking DA2 up in the bargin bin at this rate.

I SO miss the old Bioware...

I have contacted technical support, this is the laughable answer I have got:

I apologize for any inconvenience caused to you thus far. Regarding this issue I would like to suggest you that please turn off the two screens and try to play the game on on screen because game has problem in order to detracting screen. Please try to play the game on single screen.

Looks like that Tech support reply came from someone who doesn't understand English.

I've still yet to understand why they can't do simple math. It's not difficult to put in an algorithm that detects the screen ratio and looks at the resolution to figure out the center screen. For triple screen this is easy, you just divide the horizontal res by 3, then limit the HUD to render in that part of the screen.

You forgot about the bezel correction but it can be easier still: an INI/config setting that you can specify the center monitor's horizontal resolution.
ME3 better have PROPER multi-monitor support or I'm likely to skip it too.
Really it's embarrassing for top tier companies releasing AAA titles without proper Eyefinity or nVSurround support.

P.S. Thanks for the tech support quote LJ, made me *face slap* then chuckle out loud...

What about people using more than 3 screens?

The code for multiple monitors is included in the Windows SDK and is used by functions in the DirectX SDK, so I don't understand why they just don't use it.  I posted on the WSGF a quick code snippet I did as an example of how easy it is or could be to center the HUD here.  The code is there, the developer just has to use it.  It pretty much just involves getting a handle to the center monitor from a point and then populating a structure containing information on that monitor.  Then you can use the RECT to specify the drawing space of the HUD.

If the code tag isn't available on this forum, then forgive this.  Just goto the above link to see it in proper single-space font.

// get a handle to the center monitor
HMONITOR center = MonitorFromPoint(POINT((xRes/2)-1, (yRes/2)+1);

// pointer to a struct that contains virtual screen coordinates of a monitor
LPMONITORINFO lpCenterMi;

// specify the struct to populate
lpCenterMi->cbsize = sizeof(MONITORINFO);

// populates the struct with info of the passed in monitor, returns true if successful
if(GetMonitorInfo(center, lpCenterMi)) {
    HUD.left = lpCenterMi->rcMonitor.left;
    HUD.right = lpCenterMi->rcMonitor.right;
    HUD.top = lpCenterMi->rcMonitor.top;
    HUD.bottom = lpCenterMi->rcMonitor.bottom;
}

I've got another reply from EA support:

Regarding this issue I would like to inform you that I have already forwarded your issue to concern department.They could release patch or any updates.

I bet they don't have a single internal betatester that tests the game in multimonitor mode for hours. If they had one, just one, he/she would immediately say that the game is *NOT* playable with hud elements spread all over multiple screens.

EA/Bioware, please... it would be very easy to let us manage hud elements as we wish. Some MMORPG games have a special keyboard shortcut that allows users to drag and drop hud elements and save their position. It requires almost zero work from your side, you don't need to calculate anything... just let us do it.

Damn it I would be happy with a simple INI file to specify where I want my hud elements...

Well, Dragon Age Origins was passable for eyefinity since I don't mind having my hud spread out across three screens. However if Dragon Age 2 indeed has hot keys stuck behind the bezels, then that's going to be a problem for me. This of course is not mentioning the many repetitive dungeon layouts and minor character designs that I heard about.

I think I will wait until fall and then maybe buy this game at half price. Besides, at that point all the patches will be released as well. shame about the Eyefinity screw up and lack of support.

After playing the game twice in 5760x1080 resolution I would say it's playable. I do not like having my health were I have to turn my head, and the map on the other side, but without bazel correction the hotkeys are fine. But I still feel bioware should not only correct the issue for the game, they should make sure they do it right for future games as well.

This is the wrong place to ask. This is strictly about the game's Demo.
