I played the demo using a headset and noticed a vast difference in the game's volume between the scenes Hawke was in and the other "narration" scenes with Varric.  Varric's scenes, both dialog and music were much louder in comparison to Hawke's cutscenes.

I found myself having to turn the volume up drastically, just to hear what Hawke and party were trying to say.  I'd adjusted the Audio to reduce the music and sound effects, in the hopes it would help bring the speech in the dialog scenes to the forefront and that worked, but it was still much quieter than the other scenes.

Not really looking for a fix, just wondering if others have experienced this or not and hoping the volume adjustment is better managed in the final release.

Just played a short few minutes while I had the time and had a similar issue. I'm not getting any voice sound at all. Music and sound effects are fine, but there is no voice sound at all. I'm going to fiddle with some settings this evening when I have more time to see if I can get it working.

Actually your right. This is something I just disregarded really. I had my volume on quite loud for the loading screen and to listen to the opening. Then during the first narration scene I had to turn the volume down. Then when Hawke started talking I turned it back up again to listen to her and the following dialogue.

Most likely just something in the demo, but well pointed out. Simple and quite easily overlooked.

Yes, I had the same issue.

When the game started, the volume was so low (even though it was all maxed out in in-game options) that I had to crank my speakers up louder than I ever have before, for anything. Then later on, Varric near blew out my eardrums.

Hopefully it's just a demo issue!

Well all in game dialogue was ok, and that goes for most scenes with varric, but some cutscenes like the one between the blightlands and the kirkwall part is a lot louder than the rest.

I had similar volume issues. Forcing stereo sound worked wonderfully well :)

My only issue is with the quality of the voices. Characters sound like they're speaking on a radio most of the time :3

Oh good! I'm not alone. And Eurypterid, thank you for posting and please let us know if you figure out a way to compensate for this, or if you hear whether or not this has been addressed in the final release.

Experienced this as well while on the 360. Varric's narration was loud but the cutscene's were quieter in volume.

Aye, will do. But remember, I'm not a BioWare or EA employee, so I won't hear any info on this before anyone else does. I'd assume though, that this is a demo problem only and not something that will appear in the final release. I read somewhere today that the demo is based on an earlier build of the game, so that could easily explain some of the problems that are being reported.

Mr HimuraChan... good catch.. I checked the "Force Stereo" option meant for headphones and the dialog volume levels sound perfect now, still something not right, should not have to check this option for it to work correctly

Experiencing the same problem - normal sound volumes for everything except cutscene / conversation dialogue. Also, what little dialogue can be heard sounds extremely tinny. Haven't tried the "Force Stereo Sound" option yet but then again, shouldn't have to.

This only applies to the PC version, as the Xbox 360 didn't appear to have any troubles at all except the occasional screen tear when the camera moved quickly. No sound issues with the 360 at all.

I'm having the same issue. I would turn the volume up to hear the cutscene, then it would switch to Varric's narration and nearly blow my eardrums.

Thanks for that info.  And I had no idea moderators don't get any info ahead of the rest of us.  I bet that makes it hard to do this job sometimes!  :o   Hats off to all of you for doing what you do; I can't imagine we're an easy bunch to moderate, at times.  LOL

Thank you.  I have not replayed the demo since checking that box, but am glad to hear that solved the problem for you.

I forced stereo as Mr HimuaraChan suggested and it did quite a bit in regards to equaling out the audio. However, Hawke's cutscenes are still difficult to hear over the ambient noise and music, despite having both turned down to half volume.

I understand this is probably not going to be the case in the final release, but figured I'd give an update on what I've found since I know others are having trouble hearing the cutscenes involving Hawke.

Same issue here -- the Varric scenes were much louder than the Hawke ones, and over all the sound effects and music completely drowned out the dialouge (and going into settings to turn them down didn't seem to help).

I have pretty much the same issue, only Varric's lines are just as drowned out by the music as the Hawke ones. I can't hear the dialogue in any cutscenes.

What I noticed is that the same thing happens if someone makes a comment during the game (but not in a cutscene) and you're facing away from him/her. So I'm guessing it has something to do with the 5.1 sound? Haven't tried forcing stereo yet, but I think it'll work.

I hope BW fixes this for the release, though.

This was a problem in the original Dragon Age: Origins game and its DLCs and expansions. Some sounds are on an "uncontrollable" slider/channel, and will drown out all others. Cutscenes, environmental sounds, most often.

I had the same problem as well. The narration is quite loud compared to the in game speach. Had to keep on turning the volume control on my speakers up and down between gameplay and narration
