In DA2 demo feedback thread. Everything from RPGs history to bleak future of PC gaming is being thrown around. It is quite a circus, more entertaining than demo itself. Happens only few times a year when new release comes out. Don't miss out... Posted Image

Am I the only one who doesn't want to play the demo?

I don't wanna ruin anything about the game, which, let's face it, I WILL buy when it comes out, no matter what.

I feel like a kid being offered a sneak peak at his presents a fortnight before Christmas.

And believe me this is taking every drop of willpower I possess.

I have played the demo (on pc). It feels more like console version of ninja fighting game set in dragon age universe. Not at all the same polished feel as origins. It does not reveal any story, just the fighting styles and graphics. Worth a try.

No, you're not the only one. However, it is much easier to us 360ers, who can't get the demo till next week  :wizard:

I haven't played the demo yet, but what you describe there confirms my impressions and the fear raised by looking at the info material, game info and trailers... I do not expect much more than a fighting centered game with silly anime ninja style. Better to be honest and expect just that, than to be badly disappointed later. :(
But I won't be playing DA2 anyway until it is on sale, which will be a long time, EA high price policy is an utter mockery.
And no playable dwarves or elves, that is a clear thumbs down. Half-blooded humans right, why not just call it a cheap way for cutting developement costs. :(

I don't usually look at forums for a game until I've started playing it which is anything up to a year after the game is released. Avoids some of the vitriol that gets everywhere when a game is being anicipated/has just been released. Older game forums tend to be more civilised and helpful.

The demo is just that. A demo. You are perfectly safe playing it. Of course, you can't know that until you tried. But I am usually as good as my word. Or is it "Good for my word?"

I'm probably going to play the demo on XBOX when it comes out, just becuase...why not? it won't spoil the game really. It will also confirm whether I will want to fork out the £40 for a pre-order to get all the extra stuff or wait for it at a more reasonable price. Apparently completely the demo nets you a free sword. I am hoping the supposed changes to fighting means that the normal level on XBOX is actual normal vs harder since we don't have the camera abilities and the pause function is not as easy to control on our version, hence I think some console users finding the gamer harder at normal level then their pc counterparts. Not to mention no mods etc.

Tried it. Maybe it's just me, but I'm already thinking about which character builds to use. Still seems like willpower is rather useless, same as constitution. But now we'll be grabbing cunning for defense and dexterity for crits (even for a mage).

I'm not really sure how to "optimize" anymore.

But warrior damage comes from strength, rogue damage from dex and mage damage from magic. You can't really have a dex-based warrior anymore or a strength-based rogue. I'm not too thrilled about this.

A more positive comment would be that it plays pretty well on the xbox. Well I thought so anyway. I'm still getting it for the PC though.

The point is that you can only do some combos if your party has the correct make up i.e. two warriors is ok damage but a warrior and a thief working together allows you to "insert combo". It is a nice incentive to built different parties for tactical play styles.

The demo is an older build of the game, but still quite enjoyable. I'm really liking the dialogue wheel and the voiced protagonist as opposed to DAO.

Its almost all combat with very little story though.

How did you arrive at that? From my point of view, after the narrative overlay, the convo with Aveline and hubby, the convo with Flemeth, convo with ma / sis / bro, convo/quest with Isabella - not to mention the discoveries/outcomes as a result - I found there to be quite a bit of "story" to add to the flavor of the vastly improved combat situations. Top notch, imo, and an excellent blend of the two. But....that's just me. ;)

Just finish the rogue and mage play throughs. The fact that the mage actually uses the staff as a weapon sold me on it right away. Aggressive combat system. Rogues are more acrobatic, not ninja. Spell system flows pretty well. And finally a cooldown on potions.

doing archer next.

Agreed! It is most excellent! A definite step in the right direction from DAO. :)

Oh don't get me wrong, there's enough story-flavouring, its just that all of it seems to be about setting up the combat (except for the bits where you Aveline/SerWes and Flemeth).

Gets repetitive by the 3rd playthrough.

That doesn't really have anything to do with what I was talking about. I'm talking about how you can make a dex rogue, a cunning rogue, a strength rogue, or all sorts of mixed builds in DA1. But here rogue damage=dex. Still not entirely sure about the details though, so I'll wait and see.

The skill selection looks pretty interesting I have to say. You don't just buy 10 new abilities, you can also upgrade abilities if you use them a lot.

It flows logicly, fireball doest knockback till you upgrade it or do massive damage till you boost your fire damage. Cone of Cold is sexy as hell.

Archer was fun btw, it seemed like you could power up your normal shots or fire fast and get the min damage. 2h is just sick and makes sense. You should have the %chance to cleave grunts in half.

Now that you mention it, archer was actually the best playthrough I had in the demo. I tried everything except sword and board. It seemed a bit overpowered actually :)

I think because its Normal difficulty makes it seem that way. That and the talent tree is so small, I think it fits that niche roll or can be used to flavor a melee build.

Im exploring the mage trees atm.

I like the mind blast/crushing prison fix. Makes sense, as do alot of changes.

The attribute system really makes alot of sense, if you think about it. Cunning improves defense is a great improvement.

I'm looking forward to min-maxing if possible. I know it makes me a bad person :)
