If you make your character a mage, you get Carver. If you don't, you get Bethany.

She didn't come across to me as a bimbo but whatever. I'd rather have a companion that is vocal and will offer their insight on a situation than someone who just does whatever you say no matter how wrong you may be. Regardless, if you want to play a rogue your stuck with her.

Its been hinted that any such mod would be game breaking

But you can make him a friend, so that really doesn't matter.
Edit: And that really sucks if it's gamebreaking. I really wanted to play with Carver, but I don't exactly like mages. Ohwell.

It's pretty stupid that they don't even really give you a chance to choose between the two. Playing as a mage I would prefer to have Bethany, rather than Carver.

I'd like a choice as well, but for the opposite reason: I don't like Carver at all and I'd rather fry Darkspawn as a dynamic sibling mage duo...

I'm sure they set it up the way they did for balance and I'm sure they'll have the story tie in with whoever you get, so that mod would break the game story wise.

After playing the demo, that was really the only thing I found disappointing. I prefer Bethany, but also had the most fun playing a mage. Unfortunate ;(
