Both of them have the potential to be deep and interesting characters if done right. As others have stated if you play as a mage Bethany dies, and if you play as either a rogue or warrior Carver dies. No you do not get to choose between them, rather your class decision chooses them for you. It's a forced system to help balance your party of companions. If them forcing a character on you is so unbearable I guess you'll just have to run away and play Elder Scrolls like you've threatened. Because you know we'll clearly all be very hurt and sad inside if you don't play Dragon Age II.

This issue is not a game breaker for me just something I would like to see changed. What's a gamebreaker is all the garbage changes they made to the franchise. Definitely will torrent it if anything not worth a purchase.

Im pretty sure they did this as a 'safety feature' so if your not a warrior, you have a mage backing you up and if your a mage/rogue you have a warrior backing you up.
I hate to say this about bioware games, but this reaks of 'dumbing down'. So what people might have a harder time if they play a mage/rogue and have a mage party member. It should be a choice.

They aren't gonna change it, no matter how much you complain. For one the game has already gone gold and is gonna be released in a little over a week. Second it's one of the key parts of the DA 2 story line chantry vs mage's and one of the Hawke's to be a mage for the story.

Your class is your choice, so yes, it is choosing. But which sibling you keep is just another factor in your class choice.
I will probably get Skyrim too, but it is coming out much later in the year, and is an open world game rather than a Bioware style game. So, I wouldn't consider them to be substitutes.

I will never understand people that torrent games. If it wasn't even worth a purchase then there's no point in making an effort to obtain it at all. Why is it okay to bypass the hard work, effort, and dedication of a team of people? If someone is in a place where it's impossible to obtain the game, that's one matter, but to just say "I don't like the changes you made in this game, SO I'LL STEAL IT" boggles my mind.

I'm pretty sure you have your facts mixed up. Mage Hawke gets Carver, who is a warrior. Warrior/Rogue Hawke gets Bethany, who is a mage. And they did it for 2 reasons: 1) The survivor is important in the story later on, presumably you need an apostate mage, either yourself or your sister, for the story to make sense. 2) To present the FACT that there are somethigns that are beyond Hawke's control. If he had his choice, shouldn't he be able to save both siblings? The simple fact is it's not a choice, it's a plot device. Whether you like that or not is another thing entirely.

Having a situation where both are in danger and you can only choose to save one? Boom came up with that in literally 2 seconds they could make plenty of ways to narrow it to choosing one of them.

i think it makes sence, if your a mage bethany dies. If your a warrior or rogue carver dies. Its to balance it out.
